Which Speakers are good for listening to Hard Rock/Metal???

Agreed. Personally I will never bother for an other listen. But yes, that's how I heard them belting out Enter Sandman. Boy, they were really loud! If OP is interested in used route, he can find them in his budget I suppose.

Sounded bad ..really UM?
Thats a statement, i hvnt seen or heard em live but the few friends in US spoke highly of it when it came to bringing the home down !!

@ Helium Flight

Thats precisely why I am asking the knowledgeable folks here to help me out, you included buddy!!! Any particular speaker selection from you?

I've mentioned of what I've listened too!

Could u substantiate your concern Venkat sir. I spoke from the two sessions we had heard of.

Are you concerned about the fostex and the bass driver w.r.t. transients, signal handling & seggregation?

Well, my concerns have become meaningless now that the OP has mentioned his budget. But what I have heard of Fostex and Feastrex is that they are very fast, very music and work extremely well for wind and string instruments. But for drums, though they will be fast and accurate, they will not deliver (I am not say 'they will not be able to' as I think they were never designed for that) the large boominess and chest thumping sound that hard rock fans look for. For that something like a Cerwin Vega or even Yamaha, in my opinion, work better.

If I remember right when I visited Viren, his speakers sound excellent for natural drums, but were a bit wanting in electronic drums, though I was personally happy with that.

Anyhow all this is moot at 25K.

Cheers

They may not be ideal or anything but you might want to look at Wharfedales 10.2 bookshelves, i have a feeling they'll work quite well for hard rock and heavy metal, another pair of speakers to consider is the Epos ELS8......and the Monitor Audio BR2, all these would be 25k or less (the wharfedale is 18 i believe, the ELS8 is 20k, and the BR2 is 22-25k). I've heard some Judas Priest on the ELS8 and it was very good, kicked the ass of the PSB Alpha B1 on that track.

Venkatcrji I think when you visited Virenji's place the Amity's were not constructed then.

The Amity's for drums was killer when we listened to them with the Sheffield drum ref cd.

Venkat sir,
No wonder you are getting confused then.. You havent seen the updgrade which Mr. Viren did. Amity's since the upgrade carry a 10 or a 12inch bass driver and really makes the presence felt like the pricey Yammys or Cerwins.

At 25k, I would suggest going in for pre-owned speakers. One can get really good stuff for that kind of money.

@ Vinod, I want floor standers......

How about sony SS - MF515's???? am getting a used pair for 9k's...
Any word on the Corrsons DIY's? They sell the kits & even the assembled speakers...
Peerless Audio sell fully built speakers too, any idea about them???

Dude, you can get Wharfdale 8.6 FS speakers for about 12-13k. Much better than the Sony!

@ Dave
Relate this to the pm we shared last night and this my friend is quite a fact.
If you are going for looks, the Sony 'may' just look a bit more powerful ..but speakers are not meant to be seen. And even in sonic sense, Wharfedales will outshine Sony with quite an ease

Do try the model as suggested by Malvai.

So who is selling them Wharfedales 8.6's???? Checked with the distributor of wharfedales, they do not have 8.6's, only 9.6's & 10.6's

9.6 - 40K & 10.6 - 42k...... totally out of budget folks....

@ Malvai - 8.6's for 12-13 k new or used???

Oh.
when u go, do hear wharfs bookshelves as well. They may just work for you in sound and with a better 'quality of sound' by the budget constrain you have.

Dont get fooled by the size, pump the volume and give them a go.

If i wanted book shelves I would go for Millenium Speakers by Norge, They KICK ASS!!! Fantastic VFM @ 12k's....

Please give them a listen guys, i'm sure you all will appreciate them too...

Read in another speaker thread (Favourite speakers under INR 20k) fellow member adhiraj states klipsch floor standers f1 are for 12k & f2 for 22k.....

Any idea where in Mumbai can i get to audition these speakers??? They have a dealer in Bangalore, but none in mumbai.... what say guys ????

I'm interested in Klipsch since somebody earlier suggested i go for 'American' speakers to get the sound i'm looking for......

@ Denom,
Klypsh is a brand known to most, but they are certainly a step or more down from what members have suggested you in here.

Still, someone from Mumbai, can guide you for the place to audition.

best

@ Sid,

Klipsch are a step down, as in??? As long as i get the sound that i need for the budget i have, i could care less if they were indian/imported..... branded/unbranded. labels & big names don't work for me in any aspect of life.... I see plenty of these so called 'label freaks' day in & out who neither have style nor substance.... so thats the bottom line brother!

Hi Denom,
The klipsch aren't a step down especially the F2. Are you sure about the price of F2 'cause sometime back when I enquired about it the price was around 42K. And now it's not available at all in chennai.Stocks have sold out:(.

The klipsch sound is not for everyone. You either love it or you just hate it.
Most users from the many reviews I've read prefer Klipsch for Rock/Metal/Techno/Jazz etc.Their Reference series is in a different level. Klipsch speakers need a very careful selection of source & amplification. Definitely have an audition if possible.
There is a nice review of the F2 in 6moons website if it may interest you.
No way related to klipsch, just thought of giving a background.:)

All the best with your speaker hunting.:yahoo:
Regards,
Sam

I think Lyrita's amity are quite detailed in mid and quite muscular in bass - but again, it is out of budget.
Another route is used - I came across these technics large bookshelves honeycomb speakers and they were good at asking price of 10k, and were in quite nice cosmetic condition too. I am sure you can find similar deals in your city.
