Came across pioneer sb-x500 honeycomb disk speakers that this guy is carrying. Has anyone heard them? Is there any other speaker with which it can be compared?
I found them with the same guy from whom I got the smg. Form factor wise they looked quite close to helium's speakers - very large bookshelves with 10" woofer (my guess was 10" while the person selling them said 12")

Hi anm, woofers are HD honeycomb disk series with 10" drivers. They have a flatpiece instead of a cone it appears to be a thin metal disk. Rated at 130 watts made in Japan, comes with automatic overload protection . They are second generation Linear Phase design (1978 - 1984).

thanks! Any feedback on how good/ bad/ ugly is it and can you compare to any other speaker?
Dillhifi - yes he had some pioneer and technics decks and some other double deck with both decks recording.

anm if you go again to his place, give me a shout. We can go from my place. I remember when I spoke to him he had a JBL vintage some model with 15" woofers @25k

I think technics SB-X 700 is discussed in this thread.
It is with 12 inch woofer ( check vintage technics)

But asking price ws high -I think 7-8 K

also in mumbai I saw Teac tape deck ( single) in very good condition what should be its price??

Helium - I am a little taken aback in dealing with him given the problem with smg speakers. I am not sure when I would be going next to his place - but I will probably go back with the speakers. He is saying they may be repaired. Let us see.

I am sure about the model - 500. I think it was 10" woofer but the seller said it was 12". Didn't have a measuring tape :)

select-few "head-bangers club", playing Scorpions, KISS & AC-DC, calling-in furious neighbors and scaring the wife too...

hehehehe!!!!!- scaring the wifey!!!!:lol::lol::lol: and KISS - that band is a must-hear when wifey is planning to start an argument!!!!!

Hi AE
following is my defense:

that pioneer is a typo - see the subject that I managed to type correctly.
I was curious if this is an audiophile hidden gem so I thought it might be a good idea to ask here. IIRC this thread was started before I realized the fault in the smg speaker. I am keeping away from him for sure :)

regards

You seem to be 'quite fond of that kabbadiwala' in spite of him giving you a messed up speaker recently.

Pioneer NEVER made a SB-X500 Honeycomb speaker system. It was TECHNICS who made them and the X500A was launched in 1985.

Ok - for 1985, they were so-so but totally suited for "Disco & Pop" music, common during that era.

My serious advice would be 'Please stay away from such stuff... even if the kabbadiwala is willing to give 'em at almost a free price'. Unless, you wish to join those select-few "head-bangers club", playing Scorpions, KISS & AC-DC, calling-in furious neighbors and scaring the wife too...

Saw these beauties i.e Technics SB X-500 at Farhan's place today! Mindblowing performance!

I just cannot find words to describe the sound! SUBLIME!

I have the SBC 450 which I picked up from Singapore way back in 1988 and it is delivering more than expected till date.
