Dear members and friends,

Today i finally got the Paradigm Titan Monitor front speakers installed. They are fresh out of the dabba and therefore will take about 6 weeks to break in .. i suppose..but i like the sound of it.

My AVR is HK AVR 255. Maybe in about 8 monthe i will look at a 2 ch power amp.

I wanted a Mini Monitor but as luck would have it.. there were no stocks.. when the dealer asked me to look at the Titan Monitor ( which has both front and back ports & a bigger driver ). My hall is 20 ft by 20 ft.. and i thought lets give it a shot.

I heard the Atom Monitor.. wanted the Mini Monitor but ended up with the Titan Monitor.. and some extra money too but i wanted to CLOSE IT. The PSB B6 was in my consideration set too.

I would like to say thanks to psychotropic, magma, jaudere, vinod david, ashish kesharwani, anm, unleash_me.. these are the the members in can think of.. who have in someway contributed by their discussions or thoughts or PM's.

Thanks to the moderators of this forum too..

Many thanks to Rahim & Pawan of The Den in Mumbai and Ravi who came over to my place to install it.

I will answer any queries which members may have.. mind you i am no expert .. but this process of selection of the "right" speaker was long and memorable.

One of the best reviews i read ended with the line... its a speaker after all.. its not going to make or break your life..

so folks.. go for things in your budget and go by your ear. All others will fall into place..

mpw

congrats on the new addition!!!paradigm make some good speakers.do post impressions.enjoy the music, cheers

dear imrahn,

the answer to that is.. "really doesnt matter.. ". simply because your ears and your budget will decide your equipment. This is the only way to satisfaction in this i think.

happy listening and happy choosing.. its a big wide world and there is NO END to these things.

But for those who are still interested.. 27k

regards,
mpw

Congrats on the purchase - I love the paradigm sound - have had the studio series in various versions for the the past few years. If fact now I have the studio v3 series for my HT with the 40's for the front and the cc570 for the ctr with 450 dipoles and I do not plan on upgrading for maybe a decade .
Cheers
Sid

right now.. i am spent totally on these titans.. but hopefully someday i will be able to get a decent 2 ch power amp and the CC290 as well..

thanks,
mpw

congrats mpw. Maybe you can post your journey in reaching this decision. What other speakers did you audition and why did you pick these over others?

congratulatoins mpw! they sound like a fantastic pair of speakers...very cool looking specs and the reviews sound great as well....man, I'd love to hear these babies some time.

anm,

many speakers i auditioned over 8 months :

Dali Lektor 1 - was good but thought my room needed bigger speakers
MA BR2 - was good but sounded muted as compared to the Dali lektor 1
Energy RC10 - excellent speakers
Energy CB10
Infinity 150 - was Ok for the price but my aim was better sound than this.
Infinity 250 - price 32k
JBL ES80 - price about 40k
PSB B25 - was good - but waited for the B6 so that price would drop
PSB B15 - was good .. lovely speakers.. very close contention with paradigm mini monitors. But these 2 are different sounding. paradigm is slightly brighter ( my ears think )
PSB B6
Mission M34i - good value - but did not like finish
Paradigm Atom Monitor - excellent speakers for 16k
Paradigm Mini Monitor - fantastic for 25k..
Paradigm Monitor 7 - good but out of budget
Polk Audio Tsi series
Wharfedale 10.1 - was good but something was missing..
Wharfedale 10.2 - not as good as 10.1 i thought
Wharfedale 9.1 - laid back for me
Jamo C405
Wharfedale 9.5 - was good but needed something brighter.

Please note - everything is relative to MY EAR.

At the end of it all, my main criteria was my budget about Rs 25k for the fronts and that it must sound good in my 20 ft by 20 ft halll and ofcourse go well with my Harman Kardon AVR 255. For BS i realised i needed atleast 6 1/2 mid / bass driver + 1 inch tweeter.

I went to buy the Paradigm Mini Monitors after listening to them last month but they ran out of stock. I was disappointed at this but was suggested the Titan Monitors instead ( Actually i thought these would be way above the minis in price but the dealer managed to reduce the gap by much ). These have 7 1/2 inch mid/bass driver and a 1 inch tweeter and i thought the size of the bass driver would be good for me.. better than the 6 1/2 inch.. especially as the Titans are very sensitive speakers. And low volume listening is indeed very good.

The Titan Monitors are not "run in" yet and i may have to wait for about 2 months to really judge them. But i am satisfied.

Been to many dealers too and many of them were quite kind.. few of them thought "here he goes again".. but finally i took my HK AVR255 along and listened to the Atom Monitor and ordered a pair of Titan Monitors.

Bought from The Den in Worli Mumbai.

Next up : a 2 channel stereo amp ( maybe in 6 months ) :)

mpw

with a sensitivity of 93 dB why don't you give the tripath amps (like the Topping TP20) a shot? I am sure they'll work beautifully together.

psychotropic,

all in good time.. need to tread carefully and not go too fast else wifey will wake up :-))

Also that i need to collect some funds too. Actually my sis is coming down from the US in 2 weeks time. lets see..

which tripath amp you recommend and how do you connect this thru my existing AVR system ?

PS : Thru all this process of auditions, am fortunate to have a wife who has never discouraged me. Thanks to her too and i am sure this kind of thing is very tough to do as expenses mount on other fronts.

Congratulations!

From my auditions I have somehow never fancied Paradigm - they sounded a bit too bright for me.

I am curious what you made of the Jamo C series speakers as compared to the Paradigm Titans.

hey mpw, the TP20 is what I use. Check out the thread on the Topping TP20 it has quite a bit of info that you might find useful. And it's only 4000 bucks, so not really a hole in your wallet or anything.

vortex,

You must listen to Atom Minitor ( if you havent already ).

subconsciously maybe i was a bit reluctant to go in for "Made in China " but branded in USA types.. and therefore since Paradigm speakers are ALL made in Canada.. i went for it. Thats one of the reason. The build quality is very good.

Yes -you are right - the sound may be bright for some - but i suppose its individual taste here at work.

The C405 - heard that with Marantz - and they were very good. But my music taste leans that bit more towards Linkin park / GNR / Coldplay etc// and therefore i was not sure if the C405 would sound good with that kind of music. It sounded fab with Jagjit Singh etc..

( Again some may like C405 some may not )

The paradigms are again with 8 ohm impedance and i thought my centers are rears are 8 ohm too.. maybe the timbre may not match totally .. the least i could do is to hane an "ohm match "

:-))

Congratulations and enjoy your new speakers. I have heard Paradigm Reference series at Lakozy Mumbai and to me they were a bit forward sounding and absolutely faboulous on the Lows department.

I did listen to a bookshelf and a floorstander by Paradigm. I am sure that the bookshelf was some kind of Monitor - not sure whether it was a Titan or the Mini. And the floorstander was a huge one - 2 bass and 1 midrange driver.

I definitely did not like the sound.

Perhaps like you say it is a function of the source material itself. I do listen to a lot of Jagjit Singh type of stuff - not him in particular. Although I like some songs of ColdPlay. :)

The Jamos I thought were very good value for money - especially in the floorstanders category.

But looking at the price you got the Monitor at, I am sure that too is a good deal. Enjoy your purchase. When you say you are looking for an amplifier, do I understand it right that you are not using the speakers right now?

Hi! Had you shortlisted the Wharfedale Atlantic 400 or the Klipsch F1 as well? I heard the Atlantic 400 last week at Designer Audio and was really enthralled. The bass was great and they also had good depth.
Is there any place where I can hear the Paradigms and compare them to the Klipsch and Altantic? Does The Den stock these?
