Could not. My Hdd had bad sectors. So I had to copy all data back into my desktop/laptop.

illusion hv u tried ur hdd??
I have got Philips DVP5996.
So, far its been very good. I'm using an external HDD and memory stick with this one and the pq is excellent with the original DVDs.
I'm able to play AVI files but some of them gives me GMC codec or simply codec not supported errors, while running those AVI files.
Can someone tell me what could be the issue! I'm runnin the latest firmware (.31). I'm also not able to play WMV fileI was expecting it to play WMV and somewhere I read that too!!
Can someone comment on this issues??
Thanks in advance.
Hi Folks - Is there a problem in fast forward divx/xvid files on 5996 when playing out of the hard disk? Or is there a smarter way to do it that I am not aware of? Please help.
Reposting... can anyone help with above query?
I dont think format is an issue. Since I was able to forward these avis on my previous DVD player. DVP642.
I think performance of your HDD(USB 1.1?) could be an issue, Since i had the same problem when i was using older USB thump drive. Recenly i got new WD 1TB external harddisk(USB 2.0) and all the movies running fine, i mean no problem with FF.
Cool me will try with Maxtor 1 TB and get back to all of you !![]()
avi and divx are not formats. they are codecs. both have the same format.
u should try using xvid instead of divx. i had similar problems with my lg dv388. it got solved everytime i used xvid.
