Videocon D2H initial impressions

I have made the connections as follows.
(2222) STB <HDMI> AVR <HDMI> TV.

Apart from the movie channels I want to know, what settings/ connections should be changed if I want to watch some news/ cartoon channels etc without switching on the AVR? I mean what should I do to watch STB on TV without the AVR?

Connect the STB HDMI out directly to TV and for audio connect a coaxial cable to the AVR. This STB supports surround audio through coaxial also.

Hi,

1) Does videocon d2h provide hdmi cable for HD dvr stb?

2) Are there different dish sizes for sd and hd, can we ask for bigger size dish?

Hi,

HDMI cable is provided with the HD 2222 STB on which DVR functionality can be enabled. I am mot sure whether a HDMI cable is provided on the HD DVR STB that has the built in HDD.

2) Are there different dish sizes for sd and hd, can we ask for bigger size dish?

Yes, the HD dish is larger (60 cm) as compared to SD. CC/dealer should be able to clarify whether you can request a larger dish.

Hi Baiju,

I bought the videocon hd d2h last friday,My connections are STB ->HDMI->Denon avr 1912 ->HDMI -> TV

These works great for all hd channels im get dolby digital for starmovies and movies now hd and pro logic as set for other channels.

But when viewing sd channels i got the breakup of sound and video frequently in most of the channels ( breakup for a second). This not happening for hd channels though.

what would be the cause poor hdmi cable ? rain or wind disturbance?

STB direct to TV via hdmi and arc sound is not that great.

not checked with coaxial yet.do we get dolby via coaxial too?will normal rca cable can be used for spdif will get dolby surround thorough rca also?

Thanks,
Subbu.

Coaxial out also has DD surround. I'm using a normal RCA cable to connect the coax out to my AVR and has not experienced audio drop. I am not using hdmi out of stb to avr, as I am afraid of my hdmi board getting fried again.

Is there any difference between audio from HDMI and audio from Digital Coaxial connection?
in terms of sound quality.

Does this stb support video out on component?
I have read Tata sky reduce the resolution to SD on component and was wondering whether it is the same case here.

In my initial tests, I could not find any difference.

Not tested so can't say about quality drop.

HDMI board getting fried?!!

Can you elaborate on that? You mean there is a chance that the HDMI port of the AVR going kaput because of the audio input?

You also mentioned again, which means this has happened before. Could you tell me what happened? May be you can redirect me to your corresponding post as I am unable to find it.

I am just skeptical, if its the issue with DTH HDMI out which fries the AVR HDMI sound board then that DTH is definitely to be avoided!

If you are denon user be prepared to face these issues. I'm not saying this to scare you or others, but many FMs have experienced problems with Denon AVRs, especially the XX12 series. Just yesterday an FM called me saying his Denon 1612 shuts off after a few minutes. Regarding my Denon, it is working fine without any problem.

I can't say if it was the dth that caused the hdmi board failure. That time I was using Reliance HD.

Thanks for the info. I have a Onkyo 3300 HT using from 2010. Touchwood, so far I had no problems with it. But I have used it sparingly i.e. only to watch movies via DVD and media players. I have never connected to my STB as I am still on a Reliance SD box. This January, my subscription about expire and planning to move to Videocon d2h DVR box. I plan to connect d2h to AVR all the time, i.e. real endurance test of AVR will start...hope everything works fine...

It is better to connect the coaxial output of the stb to avr and hdmi out directly to TV. Videocon supports DD through coaxial also and you don't need to keep the avr ON always.

^^ That seems to be a good idea! That way, I can switch on my AVR only when a movie/program with DD is playing and avoid listening to crappy daily soaps in simulated 5.1. More greener solution too :)

That is what I'm doing now. I turn on the AVR only for watching hd movies. The hdmi port to which the coaxial is assigned is connected to htpc so that when htpc is off the coaxial audio from stb will be decoded. This eliminates switching of hdmi ports when changing between htpc and stb.

Hi baijuxavior and others,

I have a quick question here. I m using TS for last 1.5 yrs, thinking to change to videocon.

Could any1 plz confirm whether 5.1 DD will be the output when using HDMI to AVR ? or do we need to connect coaxial or optical for the audio to get DD effect. Thanks in advance.

you will get dolby digital with HDMI itself no worries.don't need coaxial and optical.

Hi Fellows - Anybody with this strange problem plzzzzz reply??

Anybody hearing a tick sound in the woofer when the channel is changed. The loudness of tick sound varies from channel to channel and few channels it does not sound.

Need Suggestion please??

Currently I am using White box. However, since it works on RF, I cannot configure to my universal remote. Hence thinking of replacing with the old black box which supports IR and can be configured to my universal remote.

I know there are few difference between old & new box, but i dont think it will have any impact on Video/Audio clarity....Right??????????

please advise
