A very good alternative to OPPO-BDP83 will be JVC XV-BP1 which is available in NA with Region A locked, but can be unlocked with a bit of modifications. It plays most of the formats supported by OPPO including 1080p MKV files and can be bought for $300 less than OPPO.

Anywhere else it is available @ lower price?
Any pricing linkss pleas ??

Hi I just replied to your pm regarding this . Anyway I will post it here for others to see also :-

Does your Phillips dvd player has hdmi port ?

If yes : Then connect HDMI cable from Phillips to Panny
Connect Digital Optical/Coaxial from Phillips to AV Receiver .

Also forgot to add this :-

If No : Then use component cables to connect video stream from Phillips to Panny.

While playback mute your tv volume or bring it to zero( If using HDMI only). Thats it.

So cables that you need:-

HDMI/Component Cable : 1
Digital Optical/Coaxial : 1

Hope this helps.

DVD player - Philips, LG, Samsung ( and maybe sony) - Buy it without USB as WDTV will be your USB player ... Prices from 3 to 4.5 K - se if Free HDMI Cable is bundled

WDTV by Western Digital - there is a very long thread running about WDTV -Go through it - prices are around 6300 to 7000 ...( and if someone getting from US 100$ = appx 5000 Rs.)
Another HDMI cable for WDTV...

Have any acess to UK or Europe - try to get Xsteamer from there!

Hi,
How does the WDTV play CD Audio downloaded on to the HDD. Is it better than normal DVDP's playing CD's? Or for that matter the sound quality of flac files? Can it equal a budget CD player? WDTV owners please respond.

I am seriously thinking of getting the Oppo 980H from HKFlix.com to play CD and FLac.. Since i am having only a Panny 29 CRT Oppo wont be doing me anything video wise. Oppo or WD TV? Guys please help me decide.

Thanks.

Hi For me there was no difference in sound when I switched from LG DV 388 to WD TV as I was passing digital audio to my AVR. So its hard to compare wdtv and dvdp here. But again if you use the DVDP chip then the result will vary for each dvd player.

I have played FLAC but I really dont have an ultra high end receiver nor am I am audiophile ;) so for me 320 kbps and flac sound same . I prefer 320 kbps for their smaller file size any day.

So the real question is whether u will be using the inbuilt chip ? If Yes : then I think OPPO has really good results there ( I remember reading it somewhere in this forum).

The only DTH that has HDMI seems to be Sun Direct. I am not a subscriber, so don't really know much about packages and PQ etc.
DVD Player: You can take a look at PIO 610 or 600. Other members please chip in.

WDTV may not be your choice if you are always playing discs. For DVD Player check out the Pioneer DV-610 (or the currently phased on DV-600). DV-600 is almost equivalent to DV-610. The only difference (AFAIK) is that 610 rips CD's and can save to any USB drive (Not an attractive feature personally). DV-600 is available at lower prices (approx 5k) since it is 2008 model, but you need to check on the availability. 610 is available between 6.5K to 9K depending on where you purchase from (grey or non-grey). Pioneer DVDP's are a no-compromise-on-picture-quality players and you can expect years of good movie watching without any problems (unless you want to upgrade to a BDP :licklips:)

Hi,

I recently purchased LG DV388H for 3400 from Lucknow. I did not find HDMI cables inside... Have they discontinued this scheme????

thanks

Is pioneer 610 comes with HDMI option? And is this a latest model available?

Pioneer-610 is the most recommended on this forum along with Oppo, CA models. You can get one of these based on your budget, Pioneer being the lowest (under 7k in grey market).

Yes, Pio-610 has HDMI output, upscaling to full-HD (1080p) and is quite a good performer. I own one.

Well some of the boxes were coming with free hdmi cable and some were not.
even when i bought mine it did not come with a free hdmi cable,

Check the box, they would mention it clearly if HDMI cable is free with the player.
