2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

I Think what Sony terms as "x.v color" is actually "HDTV standard xvYCC color" which is HDMI 1.3 Complaint & since the D550 is already HDMI 1.4 & backward compatible,i see No problems there for ur Sony Handicam, plz check here > Sony renames new HDTV standard xvYCC to x.v. Color/Colour -- Engadget Remember how IEEE 1394 interface got renamed to ".LINK" by Sony.I think,it is the same here too!

As far playing 3D from USB drive of ur samsung d550 plasma,in the cheapest & Quickest way,get some "Side By Side"(S.B.S) 3D,which is currently most popular easiest and effective way of presenting a movie in 3D,which r basically ripped from Original 3D BR-Discs.It's very common because,u can easily get hundred of such SbS 3d videos off the torrents & put them in ur flash/pen drives or external HDD's & plugm to ur d550's usb ports & play them fine ,with quite a impressive effeect...of course u need to have ur 3d glasses of ur 3d tv!

But for viewing real true 3d on ur tv,u have to get a external 3d video playing device, either a 3d BR player/g.c or a powerful htpc or a full 3d capable latest media player with a hdmi speed cable(1.4) attached 2 the tv, & enjoy the Real 3d experience!

Hope,this will suffice ur queries!

I feel bad omen against letsbuy.com cause they don't keep their promises for free items
+1 I am struggling to get several issues regarding freebies n 45 days replacement guarantee related issues since past 3 months. Except for more promises, no update since past almost 2 months! One of my friend has similar issues.

Thank u both 4 reply.

does this TV supports X.V. Color ?

& does it plays 3D from USB pendrive ?
XV Color is supported by any HDMI 1.3b capable TVs including my 4+ year HD Ready TV! Plasma typically support even beyond 12 bit videos while internally its processed in 18bit color space.

SBS 3D and other 2D encapsulated formats (like top bottom, interleaved) will be supported, however its not possible for USB interface to accommodate 1080p Frame Sequential BR 3D format so its useless to support it by the media player of the TV.

Just got my plasma up and running yesterday after 15 days. I belive day time watching will be a big task on this TV if seen sitting exactly opposite it as reflection is big time on this screen. With side views, it goes to quite an extent, however at 8 am in the morning the images will tell you the story. Its not high quality as i have taken it from my Blackberry Curve. Got video of installation also in 3gp format, whicih is 25 MB dont know how to upload here. they installed the TV in less than 10 mins.

Will update on more..

I have just posted installation video of Samsung 51D550 on you tube and following is the link:

VID 00001-20111016-1611.3GP - YouTube

The video is of low resolution, again taken from my Blackberry phone.
The stand on which they put it is not flexible, the space between wall and TV is just about 3 inches, so anything like putting up vga cable behind will be a task. Samsung guys casually suggested, just bring it down, put the wire and put it back on wall, as if it was a 22 inch TV. Overall picture quality is very good, I am just disappointed with the reflection issue, which I am sure can be resolved by putting some thick curtain.

I have also attached pics of morning, while sitting to right side, where i see less reflection, compare to the reflection i see standing exactly opposite of the screen.

^^^ Din't you read my post to avoid this TV if you have windows right opposite to the TV?

You will need very thick curtains over your existing ones. Need to close them when viewing TV..

I did see a post showing reflection, but it wasnt too much, anyways I am anyways buying new curtains, but will have to now buy thick ones..Thanks for your advise

Also if possible try to get the glass in the windows be darkened using some cheap car films. Or else thicker screen will do the job fine.

You can get Blackout (3 Pass) Suede Coated curtains in all fabric colors which ever suits your room interior .

Thank you Kittu and Naveen for all your suggestion...I will certainly get something done, also my balcony in east side so I didnt check the intensity of light post 11 am or so, when Sun is gone over and not putting all its light in my house...I think will manage things in couple of days..I do not see much issue in night or evening so far and right now i have kept all my settings very low so picture itself comes faded and reflection adds problem to it. may be after 200 hrs or so will check again...i am unable to g thru service menu..wanted to check the usage hrs..any easy way to get in..

I also faced a very peculiar problem while i connected my pc thru hdmi 1.4 cable to this tv, gives me sound and picture thru one cable only, although it detected that its samsung tv and 1080 is native resolution, despite settings being at fit to screen,, the windows remained out of screen..i had to go to advanced display settings and manually bring it down to 65% level to get a normal fit to windows 7 screen..any idea why its not getting fit to screen resolution automatically?

my friend has the ultra slim wall mount fitted for this model and works fine

the samsung seems to have charged him rs 500 or 700 extra, dont remember exactly.

You have to NAME that connection as PC! Unless you do, it will receive the signals as Video and would always scale it. Ensure that you connect through HDMI1/DVI and name the connection as PC.

Just go check for Blackout curtains . they come in gold and offwhite. Will do the job. Put them behind your original curtains so the look remains the same.

I got two 3d glasses today which were to come free as per the samsung diwali scheme. i asked about the price and he said glasses are still at 3.5 k and the prices should come down post diwali. my first experience with this was good as i watched rio side by side movie. the glasses has red and green tags both sides with some protective screen over it, when i was trying to remove it entire thin protective was coming off. can someone tell me if that entire film on both side should be removed, i am sure with those red and green tag one cant watch 3d movie, although i did that few mins back for 10 mins or so..lol..please advise who are already using it so that i can accordingly remove it.

For offers on vt20 check this thread www.hifivision.com/television/21214-50vt20-offers-accross-india-hyderabad-80k.html. 90K is too high by todays standards!

Hi,

Awaiting for the review. Particularly SD channels via DTH/Cable.

Well I will certainly write my feedback here but right now i am using very low settings for burn in period and may be once cross 100 hrs or so, will put in my feedback here. One thing i found very good that the upscaling of the samsung is very good, even you tube video at 480p was running cool and some of my old 700mb files too played well.

Reduce settings while watching tv channels. But while watching movies from usb just change picture settings to movie mode and that is enough. No need to reduce settings for that. But enable it to play in 16:9 aspect ratio for all movies.
Watching 16:9 content is also part of the break in process and unless it has any network logo there is no need to dim it too much, just set it to movie mode and that is enough. Movie mode has the best color accuracy.

Enjoy !!
