Get the 15Amp socket done.
I had the same setup with 5A cord on my 42B450 and even with that, the TV tripped twice in 2 weeks and burned my extension cord in the first month and I gave it the 15A it deserved.
I then got the V-Guard LCD stabilizer with 15A socket and it has served since then without issues.

You can use the 5A cord temporarily for testing though. Mind that yours is 50" with FHD number of pixels with entirely different (higher) power requirements.

On a side note, the 50VT20 came with a 5A plug.

prankey, u could be right in panasonics not having as high brightness as the Samsungs. Having said that, coming from an LG LED TV to a Panasonic VT20, I've never felt the brightness to be inadequate. Beyond a point, brightness any higher is of no use (to me, atleast) but lower blacks are relevant all the time while one's watching.

On the black level, i wish the Panasonic could go darker still. So, I would most definitely not like to go any lighter. Of course, this is my personal view and some people prefer brighter pictures. To each his or her own. :-)
Trouble is in about 10 years time brightness will reduce even further, so it might look very dark then. So probably Samsung will fair better then. Otherwise I also keep my LCD TV will minimum brightness most of the time.

It might be a loose connection as you conclude, the V-Guard Stabilizer might have been connected with a 5 amp plug. I honest don't believe using a 5 amp plug will harm in any way unless loosely connected.

Bought a cheap hdmi 1.3 cable for 150 bucks and connected to ps3 and voila i was able to play call of duty black ops in 3d 720p
Crysis 2 was also awesome
viewing photos that came bundled in play memories app in ps3 was awesome i could literally see through the window of my tv while changing my viewing angle it's awesome you should see to believe it.
Connected my 1tb hdd and played a dozen of half sbs 3d movies in mkv container some played but other responded as video codec unavailable
Played a lot of 1080p brrips Video's look's amazing
Reflection is not a problem for me as my master bedroom has 1 window opp to tv but i blocked it by a dark curtain even open window didn't seem to have any reflection cause my window has another wall after 5 meters.

connected my lan and i got to say DLNA or Allshare (samsung's own DLNA client) is working perfectly videos from my S galaxy s and even my lappy's

Samsung remote client for android works charmingly although i can't switch on the tv while it's in standby

I connected the 5a power cord that came with smps of the pc (kindly suggest me if i can continue or to convert it to 15 amp socket) and also i don't have any sort of stabilizer should i connect one although my UPS has a sine wave converter in it still i am feeling i should get 1 if so which brand and how many power rating should i look for ?

Here is a video demonstrating of setting of ps3 3d display

Sorry for any grammar mistake as i am not an avid English speaker. ;-)

Didn't see your post but i got to say V-Guard is inferior to locally made stabilizers but thanks for the suggestion i will be installing a 15 amp socket for the tv and i am on a hunt for the best stabilizers can any one suggest me one other than v-guard

Also the TV's max consumption is 350 watts so using simple electronic calculation 350w/220v= 1.59 amps so 5 amp socket will do the job

did you keep your tv on a computer table! i hope your table is strong! how much does the tv way ?? i know some one who kept his 50inch(old lcd ) tv on a flimsy computer table and the table gave way!! tv is history!!

Yeah the computer table is custom built and is very strong the tv weighs about 30 k.g not a big weight for a table weighing 45 k.g

You did a wise thing not bothering about a 15 Amp socket or cord. If you have a good UPS, you could keep connected to it. Remember most of the UPS's have surge suppression, most stabilizers like V-Guard don't! Surge suppression is the biggest thing you should be bothered about. Getting a surge protector can also help eliminate the need for a stabilizer.

Can you check 1080p FS 3D from PS3 and see if that cable handles it (I also use it and am very happy with my investment).

It may still get bent from center during prolonged use :) Guess you are okay with that?

If not, you could get an inexpensive TV Stand with Toughened Glass and can avoid such bending from center.

Did not find a better thread to put this info.

Came accross a 64" D8000 plasma when I was out to demo the D5500 bluray player.
Man this is a piece of art. As black as night in bright room and very very bright.
At first I thought this is an LED. Goes to tell a lot about its brightness. very very good colours too. Motion was muh fluid too.

This thing is humungous and costs like 1.8L. I haven't come accross a TV with so much value yet.

I wonder why the 50" was not released in india. A 50D8000 at 80k would have been an instant hit.

Sorry for that.. I did not want to open a new thread and this is the closest I could get to D8000.

Never saw a kuro and cannot comment. I don't comment speculatively.

I think that if samsung concentrates on plasmas only like the panasonic, they will end up making the best plasmas. Currently they spend 80% effort on LEDs and like 20% on plasmas and even then pull through good TVs year after year.

I also think that in 2-3 years, their LEDs will match/surpass panasonic plasmas in black level and could match in cost atleast in india.

Yes you are right may be in future we will also see a holographic displays who knows???

PND8000 is the only HDTV with an outstanding rating in cnet.com's list of HD tvs.
whereas VT30 has an excellent rating and comes third.

But they are VT30 as the best TV for picture quality.

I hope kuro is already dead ... now what use is the kuro killer?

I suggest you try a game on PS3 trying 1080p FS 24Hz to see if that works fine with the cheap cable and 51D550.

That is what I suggested when I talked of 51D550 being much brighter than Panasonic's AR filtered TVs. So that essentially makes a healthy compromise among VT20 and D550 which is like the extreme ends of the spectrum and are still comparable and in many ways D550 is a much more usable TV with extensive USB playback support eliminating the need for an external player needing another remote and device... I prefer an all in one device if it has comparable quality than specialist which may compromise on other aspects.

I don't think LED back light will EVER do any voodoo to a TV quality! It is JUST a bach light like CCFL and can be more efficient and longer lasting to CCFL. It all depend on panel quality and only OLED TVs will be able to give us better than CRT quality in coming years.

I have seen them both and D550 is not as bright or black as D8000. These two are worlds apart.
You have to see to appreciate.

For example, check the photo in bright sunlight. http://www.avforums.com/forums/atta...-samsung-d8000-plasma-samsung-64d8000-004.jpg

It is not LED technology but the innovation samsung brings in. It could have been CCFL LCD also but alas, all innovation is happening in LED nowadays. I never thought LCD/LEDs would become as good as they are even 'today' ever. Iam just superimposing the improvement that happened in the past 3 years to the future. I agree that it might not be as simple as that.

I see sunlight coming from behind on that snap. Bound to make TV look darker that way if we capture both the bright background and dark TV screen.

I agree that most of the good TVs are coming with LED backlight, however LED edge light significantly create backlight bleeding/clouding issue which do not exist in a CCFL backlight models. So I would still prefer a CCFL backlight model even if it is marginally inferior in picture quality as consistent black level is most important for me as otherwise it is extremely distracting to note the chunks of grey clouds and flashlights on the screen!

Showroom where I saw it, it had no sunlight. Normal showroom bright lights and it was still as dark like that in the picture.
You should check it in one of the samsung plazas. :)
