2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

Thanks I will do so, primarily I am watching content from my pc now, which has lots of hd movies and no all movies have started in the full screen format only, which you refer as 16:9 format. i thought bur in process is similar for both sd and other content hence i have changed it like that. while watching 3d it automatically rests the picture and becomes bright.

when i stand very close to television, specially while connected with pc i see thousands of green and red particles, do they remain always like that? i have put in my pc settings as such that only recycle bin logo is visible and auto hide option hide the menu bar also, so its big black screen with just recycle bin logo and while standing closer i see those particles, hope they go away, although i will never watch any content from one feet.

i am just facing an absolute weird issue here, when i switch off my rooms tube light and then switch it on my tv display goes off and within seconds come back..absolutely crazy stuff happening, god knows if its something to do with wiring..anyways..thnx all of you for giving me feedback rly and also valuable suggestions

Reduce settings while watching tv channels. But while watching movies from usb just change picture settings to movie mode and that is enough. No need to reduce settings for that. But enable it to play in 16:9 aspect ratio for all movies.
Watching 16:9 content is also part of the break in process and unless it has any network logo there is no need to dim it too much, just set it to movie mode and that is enough. Movie mode has the best color accuracy.

Enjoy !!

i forgot to mention that i got ssg-3050gb 3d glasses with mrp of 4.9 k, is there any other model also, which is better than these and why? has any one got best price for all share dongle? please let me know so that i can bargain accordingly while i buy it.

I got two 3d glasses today which were to come free as per the samsung diwali scheme. i asked about the price and he said glasses are still at 3.5 k and the prices should come down post diwali. my first experience with this was good as i watched rio side by side movie. the glasses has red and green tags both sides with some protective screen over it, when i was trying to remove it entire thin protective was coming off. can someone tell me if that entire film on both side should be removed, i am sure with those red and green tag one cant watch 3d movie, although i did that few mins back for 10 mins or so..lol..please advise who are already using it so that i can accordingly remove it.
You need to peel off those stickers before use! There is no other protection so you need to keep those fiber lenses scratch free by mildly cleaning with micro fiber cloth only.

Please post the pictures of the glasses. You seems to be one of the first fews getting those glasses. Till date people were getting 3100GB which seems to be superior to 3050 ones (atleast as per the model number).

Folks, we may still get 3100GB if we rush on the purchase as otherwise we may also get 3050 ones if they become available instead of 3100 ones.

Thanks Prankey, I will peel that off and try to keep them scratch free.

I did ask the dealer that why he is giving me 3050 and he said this is what they have got from Samsung, so probably since samsung is giving free glasses they decided to give this. I didn't find them on their India site, however 3100 on their website has similar price tag as that of 3050. I also checked the month of import and it was September 2011, so that means they are also not from old lot , i will have to check if there is any inferior aspect between the two. Will post the picture in the night.

I was thinking that we we can use those screen protecter sheets to cut them and put on top of the glasses on both front and back. However it may reduce the visibility and increase reflections (and hence glare) within the glasses.

I was told by Samsung that these will be the ones coming free when the Diwali offer was launched on 15th September.

Samsung has this typical habbit of INFLATING PRICE TAGS OF FREEBIES! Last year they put an unbelievable tag of 30k for C6900 BR Player! This year they did it for Sound Bar as 22k while I believe they are selling the same at an MRP of 16k. Common practice to inflate the cost of freebies.

Excellent snaps. Thanks a TON for them. These could well be the FIRST ONLINE SNAPS across the globe, forget about seeing the specs elsewhere.

Sifar - Can you check the battery type used in 3050 and the runtime as 3100GB use large 2025 batteries and lasts around 75 hours. I see 3050 to be more sleek, however to accomodate this large battery.

Here you go with battery compartment shots. It has the same battery, as in 3100 , i do not know how long this will last, i am gonna buy some dozen batteries tomorrow and keep as standby.

another irritating factor is remote in this TV, i need to literally point out the remote towards the left bottom corner, than only it works, seems the sensors used are not so good. however the touch sensitive button for volume and channel and power are very good and responsive.

Sifa, thanks for the confirmation. Seems they are more efficient and lighter models than 3100GB (though 3100s are selling for almost twice the price than these on ebay). I have got the info from eBay that they lasts upto 120Hrs! So seems you may not need replacement batteries after several months of use.

Prices should drop in December for sure. So if we could wait, I can definitely get better pricing by then.

today i checked bother st30 and d550 side by side in mumbai showroom.....i wont recommend st30 to anyone(also refer to cnet review, and go see for yourself) the brightness is low, very very low i mean it.....no matter how much you increase it..its low

otherwise st30 is superb....anti reflective panel which pana used to cut down on reflection actually...reduced the britness for this model...huge injustice to such a beautiful model....

meanwhile d550 is superb as well....in my opinion it is one of the best plasmas in the market...(im planning to buy it soon.)

Planning on buying a plasma 42 inch and above is the requirement, 80,000 is the budget.

What i have read on the forums the two most talked about in the budget are panasonic 42st30 and samsung 51d550.

How do these two compare in terms of picture quality ?
Can anyone shed some light.

Prices should fall by at-least 2K-3K by December, this is what happened last year when i purchased my Samsung LED TV

Hi Mandeep, So you have both Plasma and LED now?
Can you pen down the likes and dislikes in the LED vs Plasma thread?

I also noticed the same between 50C6500 and 50VT20. While the black level is definitely lower on 50VT20, same applies to the brightness. So while I am tempted to go for VT20, I still feel 51D550 is a better deal.

prankey, u could be right in panasonics not having as high brightness as the Samsungs. Having said that, coming from an LG LED TV to a Panasonic VT20, I've never felt the brightness to be inadequate. Beyond a point, brightness any higher is of no use (to me, atleast) but lower blacks are relevant all the time while one's watching.

On the black level, i wish the Panasonic could go darker still. So, I would most definitely not like to go any lighter. Of course, this is my personal view and some people prefer brighter pictures. To each his or her own. :-)
