2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

these tvs r imported to india directly from korea rather than manufactured/assembeled in india@noida , & there r so less of these imported atm(particularly being so new),that there is a huge scarcity in supply & distribution to indian mkts....so ppl have to keep waiting even more to actually lay hands on it.From a waiting period of a fortnight(a few days ago), samsung ppls have suddenly jumped the waiting period for the 51D550 @my place 2 aprox 1 month ,today!......don't know about rest of india...but good if ppls/members here still can locate, buy & then offer a top MOST wanted first hand review about all aspect of this Most sought after pdp tv of 2011,then it would be the most commendable job yet!

Which place r u from

^^ does it really matter?...the above info is straight from the BM Samsung@my place, who contacted his india Hq for getting the update just in front of me...as i was showing keenness to book/order the d550 & wanting an early delivery...but he said sorry at the end for not able to deliver as per my expectation...since earlier(1.5 weekback) he gave me a verbal assurance of tentative delivery by next 15-20 days, but is backing out now to a more latter date,at the earliest by may end or june first half, when he can possibly deliver the good! This is in context ,since not a single 51"d5 50 is in current transit to my place, & as india hq themselves r facing shortage of this new model to appropriately distribute everywhere.
i already put a disclaimer, this mightnot be applicable everywhere & a pan-india shortage, rather ,that getting to this model might b just be a little late than early as expected!

//*to give a little more credence to the info, let me tell you, a major news channel here, ordered a whole lot of the these d550 about a month back, when they were just being launched , but post this 1 month they had to settle the deal with the d490's disgruntled, even after applying a lot of pressure at various levels.Samsung themselves r NOT very happy with this picture, coz such dissatisfied institutional sales may lead to no sales from such institutions later on,which no tv company in business would let go!//

Apart from this, even if the d550 r available, there is equal shortage of current 2011 blue-tooth 3dglasses,....so the tv is Not prime yet,at least as per info at my place!

As the query of my place,i thought ppls could figure out by themselves, anyway, here goes >>> 781007 ,...if that does make any difference!

Still,if ppl can get hold of the d550 in india atm(india purchase) in anyway possible & take much pains to offer a top MOST wanted first hand review about all aspect of this ,i would be most happiest of all,..as that would be immensely benefiting all & that includes me as well! So with all expectations...hoping for best! :)

**edit : u can get a short/micro review of 51"D490 here >> http://www.hifivision.com/television/17858-samsung-42d490-any-reviews.html#post244556

Thanks for the nice Micro Review as u prefer !!!:clapping::clapping::clapping:

as in my place my dealer has given me a promise that i'll be having a demo on or before 20/5/2011 (the dealer is also a Friend of mine so he keeps his promise)

I won't sacrifice hard earned money without proper review with my own eyes

so i'll be buying it after i've seen a demo

although as you suggest d490 model which has 1366*768 pdp
viewing 3d content on it will be like 683*768 per eye
so it makes 3d hd content look like an sd content

so i do prefer only full hd i.e., 1080*1920 :yahoo:

Frame Sequenced Full HD 3D BR will still be in 1366*768, however I agree that a difference of less than 10k might not be much particularly for people looking for best quality for the price.

I am also very keen in evaluating LG Cinema 3D as I personally prefer passive flicker free and less ghosting on 3D than Full HD with terrible ghosting.. And nevertheless, I would hardly be interested in watching 3D BR which is the only content I know which offers Full HD 3D. For the rest (Side by Side, etc), those passive glasses should give the similar or hopefully much better picture on those polarized glasses...

While taking the demo, its VERY IMPORTANT to do it BOTH in complete darkness (to check black levels and floating, non uniform black levels) and reasonably lit (to check for reflections, brightness) environment. Also, before taking the demo, we should search for some good callibrated settings to try during the demo (can make a HUGE difference in color and black levels).

yes, LG Cinema 3D seems great but particularly those looking specifically for 3d,...& now, imho, those looking for the d550 are basically looking for a very goood vfm full hd plasma with Great pq & overall all the plasma advantages..with 3d as an addon for occasional viewing(anyway 3d as practical mainstream source is still a far call) ...so i think the viewer profile is different, though i cannot generalise here, but i can atleast speak for myself,as i began searching for such a tv when the new d550 caught my eye.i think many ppl would feel similar! If 3d would be a serious call for me,then i would anyday prefer a glass/specs free 3d tv (which imo is the Real Deal),which i feel all 3d tv would end up ultimately, but sadly such good technology is still in development stages, but nevertheless has great potential! However till then all 3d tvs are still a compromise!

Now,again considering that smallest 42" Lg Led 3d cinema cost approx 1 lakh(mrp), the 51"d550 is much bang for the bucks, considering the occasional 3d viewing would look much more effective on the bigger 51" display estate of a d550,this is particularly true for people with limited budgets who can just stretch to fit in a good tv with 3d,but doesn't have the arms or legs to get a premium tv with some xtra premium budget!

But having said all these,i am still Not sold on the d550, unless i get a proper demo of it, untill which i reserve my final judgement.(however reviews from other ppls r more than welcome). As i say,my money is absolutely more valuable than anything!

Till then,hoping for best!

very well said ^..i also agree without getting proper demo myself i wont buy.
if 50v20 also drop down 2 same bracket i can think other wise these tv is good.
i had demo of lg50pz550.

eggactly,...if ever 50v20 ever drops down to about same price as the 50d550, my preference also might tilt!,...till then d550 is the only scope of our wants!!
i hope we all r in the same boat brothers!

Indiglo - I completely agree on your thoughts. My point was only to evaluate LG Cinema 3D before concluding. Like you said, our money is more valuable than any of these! We should not regret buying any of these TVs. Particularly I had returned 2 Samsung 3D TVs last year despite having them at a great bargain price with several 3D goodies.. I still feel my current Samsung HDTV is better than those reflective TVs with rather defective additional features.. Difference between HD Ready and Full HD is only marginal so I was not blown away by the PQ as well.. especially after IMMEDIATELY noticing backlight bleed, clouding issues which do not exist on my current TV. Nevertheless, list goes on which were the reason I had to return those TVs and hence want to take the most informed decision this year as my current Samsung is still running like new and keeping me happy after completing 10k hours of usage..

I still feel we should get this TV around 50K WITH 3D goodies by the end of this year... However I can understand that several of us will be more eager to buy immediately for which I can try to work the best deal possible through my Samsung direct sales manager... Lets wait for the stocks to arrive PROPERLY before moving further towards price negotiation...

Although i am very eager to buy this, viewing the ppls experience with past samsung pdp's i'm not in a mood to buy it i'm feeling somewhat drowned by what all the problems they faced i don't think i might face the problem with the 2011 models but there is 25% chance i'd go for a panny even tho it cost's more without 3d:sad:

but the sad thing is that you will never get THE "perfect tv" anytime anywhere, even the panna v20 has a whole lot of problems of its own..& also it is scheduled for replacements by newer models & think that it's without any 3d fun which u can occasionally indulge in!..panna pdps r still the leader in the segment, but the newer dseries sammy pdps wouldnot have gathered so much moss if it not for its absolute brilliant pricing it offers & hit the right spot which matters the most with its equally placed feature list! Also sammy ass rocks atleast in my place!

Think of a tv in every sort of way, b4 committing to it...that's i learnt the hardway!

i think u r still looking for the perfect tv....that's a total myth my dear friend...i'm sure 2012 panasonic pdp's would beat the 2011 vt30 hands down in every sort of way...if u do have the bucks, do directly import the vt30 & plz dont forget to share with us the happy story! :)

Yes my friend i'm looking for a perfect as per my needs not as per the companies deeds which has rather less performance as per pdp's last couple models.I've indeed sought reviews around the globe using the net which are Disappointing to me :indifferent14:

Yeah it's a myth when every model has it's own disadvantages I do care for my TV for being one & only entertainer for me and my family, So i'd rather pick the best out of my money.

2012 models will be long enough for those who are searching for a TV in 2012 Not this year's.

I have co-brother situated in New York he will be here next month so i think i may get the panny vt30 (Not sure)

And Sure I'll Post you the Review and Pics of the TV :D
