40" Plasma - Buying Help Needed

installation/ warranty these days is handled by manufacturers themselves - for most of the brands. they don't leave it to individual dealers :)

I am finally back in Bangalore after a hectic trip... Sorry couldn't spend much time here...

I visited Banashakari Panasonic Shop last Sunday, as suggested by Vikram (Freak). They did have 40U30S - The U30s from Singapore - they say. Since the U30D is out of stock in India (D stands for India), Panny is importing Singapore version of U30.

As always, I tried various options, like, first asked them to make the picture mode to normal on 42X30D, 42U30S and 42ST30D

I could see X30 was a bit more brighter than the U30 not much of difference at all on Normal SD Channels, HD Channels and the demo videos they play (but U30 was a bit more natural skin color). ST30 was a complete blast... the 500000:1 contrast was obvisiously showing its difference from the (paavam) 200000:1 models :p - It was a complete show stopper.

The 'best' price of X30 quoted here was 34,900 by the sales guy. I was not there to close the deal that day, so didn't even start negotiating with him.

Met the owner, Mr. Yathindranath, a very nice gentleman, who has been Director sales in Panasonic, Lenovo, Sony, LG etc... He also has a Sony showroom and Lenovo Showroom in Bangalore. He became very interested with my questions on plasma and spent quite sometime with me explaining various things (pretty much openly)

One of the important thing was something called 'Fast motion video test' (don't remember the exact name) that he showed. It is series of pictures with either different color balls or dice with numbers or alphabets or sceneries... etc. Each photo is scrolled a few times continuously from left side of the screen to the right side. It is shown on all the screens Plasmas, LCDs and LEDs.... The clarity of motion was great only in the plasmas It was literally horrible in LCD and LED to the extent that, when the dice with alphabets and numbers came, I couldn't make out a single word or number (trust me -not a single one). But it was crystal clear in plasma - irrespective of model or size.

He told me that it is due to 'Sub field drive frequency' which is 600 Hz for plasma... but is only 120 Hz for LCD and LED.

We might not notice it, but LCD and LED will definitely cause huge strain for our eyes in a long run.

Now, I have a little bit of modifications I need to do in my hall (electrical and wood) - before I buy my plasma this Thursday or Friday:yahoo:. Will keep you all posted.

@ Anshul: I feel Panny is a better bet for you.... BTW, Nice analysis and very nicely presented.... :clapping:

Yes, the 600hz makes a big difference especially in fast paced/grandprix type of videos. ST30 is the king of the ring but was way beyond my budget so I settled for P42U30S (yes S and not D) which i got for 41k 2 months ago from Pana brandshop in Anna Nagar, Chennai

Went to Dickenson Road - Panasonic Brandshop this evening. Hemanth (Abhi's sales person) was not there. There was one Mr. Rajendar. When I asked him for X30D's price, he said 34,900 and that it is the best price he could offer...

When I told him about Abhi's 33k purchase there - He called Hemanth multiple time and told me that prices have increased and made Hemanth also speak with me...

He said it was a one time offer for Abhi alone, as he has bought some camera etc also earlier and has been coming for one month..... I gave him a real piece of my mind and told him that, his is not the only shop in the world that sells Panasonic.... He was like 'No sir... I will get special approval for you also & get the same price' :p . I wanted to tell him that another friend is getting it for 32K in Hyd today.... but left it

Then the other guy is asking me, if I will pay by card or cash. I told him, my friend paid 33k in CC only, so I will also do the same... :D

Then I told him about the bad delivery experience Abhi had... (Infact I escalated that issue to Mr. Cherian - the branch manager). They said it was a one time occurance as delivery guy took leave... We will take care of it.

Finally I got a assurance that I will not get a demo piece and told them that I will come on Friday evening or Satuday morning and book my TV. (Now over to my home minister for final approval :argue: :p )

I will keep you guys posted...

Ya Kannan: 20k difference was way too much even considering the PQ, screen etc... So, dropped it...

And as for U30S, the only shop that has it here is asking 44k as final price.

But thats also easily too high when compared with the 33K for X30D - Since even the HD channels here are only 720P here (I could as well use the balance money to buy a good media player and nice HT unit...:licklips:)

Also, X30D PQ appears to be bit brighter than both U30 and UT30.... (Please don't mistake me that I am pulling it down) - it is a excellent TV but will show only natural colour... w/o adding brightness, so looks a tad dimmer.

Rgds/

Finally after lots of research & bargain , I got my 42X30D at 32K with a free philips bag(not good but free) from Reliance Digital. they delivered it yesterday only (Really good service) with free wall mount. I have seen the package, it is made in Thailand & Imported in 22 Jan 2012 by Panasonic India. Got the call for installation as well. So today it will installed at 3:00PM. Waiting to watch my new tv. Just few hours left.
Will keep you posted about my expr.

Thanks a lot to all for helping me in my decision making for Pana.

One more thing friends.. I got my X30D in EMI with 0% interest & 0 processing Fees. so i have to pay in 10 Months. Really a good deal. If you are looking for this in Delhi , U can purchase online at Timtara.com at 29490 with home delivery & free Logitech Keyboard( they sells genuine piece, u will get warranty from panasonic). However no EMI option there. U can pay by credit card. They dont have Hyderabad & Bangalore Delivery, for Delhi they have. For other places, i have'nt check.

Kindly post it here, if any of you has taken.... Please :signthankspin:

I was also showed a similar fast moving video with some vases kept in a row with some data written on it...As Baala mentioned I also cudnt read even a single word in LCD and LED & in Plasma's it was superior...especially ST30 was a show stealer...i just cudnt take my eyes off the ST30 model...of course it was out of budget otherwise I wud love to settle down with that....but X30D wasnt bad either & gave me enough reasons to buy...actually a value for money in real...
