I wish to buy a 46" [Sony KDL 46EX710 or samsung UA46C6200 UR]. I have also lately discovered the LG 47LE4600....and inclined to settle for the latter. I am from Mumbai and the best prices that I have been offered are
on LG - Rs 77,000/- [Includes LG Blu-ray player & a 320 GB HDD]
on Samsung Rs 103,000 to 109,000 [after knocking off the offers]
on Sony Rs 97,000/- [with cordless headphone & usb dongle].

I am a serious movie addict & used to working on professional broadcast monitors at my workplace. The R & D that I did lead me to samsung....however at the end "cost-factor" makes me steer towards LG. I do not want to stretch my budget unnecessarily. I notice that standard def signals on all are poor [with LG being the best of the lot]. I will want to calibrate PQ settings to my satisfaction.

Some plus points of LG that I noticed - good viewing angle; good coating over the panel eliminates accidental scratches & offers best protection; excellent sound quality [no need to connect to the home theater for normal TV viewing]; usb ports read max variety of files & reads 1 TB HDD easily.

Please shoot ur feedback as I wish to close this deal in a few days

If you are a serious movie addict then you will no doubt want to do your viewing in complete to near darkness conditions. In that case why not look at a plasma. (Remember I am suggesting plasma because you specifically mentioned that you are a movie addict). You will get a 50" LG/ Samsung for lesser than the quoted prices. The remainder you can use to invest in a media player, which will serve you much better than a TV's inbuilt USB port.

Thanks Shredder. I was indeed looking at Plasma [my R & D was on since last 5 months] & had selected Panasonic. However when I realised that their BEST MODELS & SERIES sets [G20; G25] are not available here in India, I backed out. These models are state of the art - THX certified; slim; energy efficient etc and above all 25-40% cheaper in USA than the "obsolete & overpriced" V20 series sold here.

I do feel sad that Pana still treats India as a crappy place to market their latest products. Plasma still remains the best for colors; blacks; viewing angles - BUT not the models available here.

Thats where I am settling for LED now and most likely LG47LE4600. Strangely, I cannot find any "tech-reviews" of this set anywhere on the net or even for their 42" LE4600 series.

Is LG good for their service.

I agree. It is very sad that we pay more but get less. Even the models with similar numbers are always in some way scaled down from the US versions.

LG service is very good.

Lg 47" le5500 is a better option that 4600,82500 is the price without any free stuff ,which has local dimming ,pq of sd and hd content are good -better viewing angle, better contrast , colour reproduction is good ,better sound ,better sq compared to sammy and sony,i bought it for my uncle a couple of weeks back for my uncle,at that price braket they have done a master piece....

Thanks Candu. I will look closely at the LE5500 vs LE4600 47". Preliminary comparisions tell me its mainly the "bluetooth/wireless features"

I was not keen on "bluetooth/wireless or broadband/netcast features" - [WHICH AGAIN ALL COMPANIES PROVIDE - on HIGHER PRICED MODELS & WHICH I CONSIDER A Stoopid Addition as you are restricted to viewing ONLY LIMITED Content over the net and then too if you have a net conn of at least 7.5 MB/sec - for proper streaming on a 47". Lastly, they charge you anywhere from 8500 to 20000 extra for these features. The same are also available if one gets a good-blu ray player.].

major differences is the contrast ratio 5 lac vs 2 lac. I am not sure about the response time for 4600 [for 5500 its 2.4 ms which is really good].

Again apart from the above have you noticed any other differences in PQ _ Please share. I am likely to close my deal this weekend.

Now that's a new point. Thanks. Will look closely at it. Other than these see also my reply later on [that I aM NOT interested in bluetooth/netcast/broadband etc].

Does LG have a 47" LE5500 series - without these stupid features.

contrast ratio of 5 lakh vs 2 lakh is a big difference. More than 2 times greater contrast ratio. These are Dynamic contrast ratio figures and hence are exaggerated but the point is that Dynamic contrast figures are still useful when comparing two models across the same brand. The model with better contrast ratio figures will be miles ahead of the other one with lower contrast specs wrt PQ.
The response time of 2.4 ms is excellent. I was recently playing Crysis on an LG with 2.4 ms and there was no discernible blurring, that too after having played the same extensively on a plasma.
There is no LE5500 without the useless features you have mentioned. I agree regarding the uselessness of these features, but this is how companies entice aam jantaa to pay more for TVs which could have been so much cheaper.

I am a serious movie addict & used to working on professional broadcast monitors at my workplace.

All the models discussed here are pretty good with their own respect. But my only concern for you is they will never be little near in terms of a PQ/contrast for a broadcast monitor which you were used to work. Its a altogether different niche league which only very few people get experienced and would set expectations to sky high. so would suggest look for a better PQ than extra features.

Just my 2 cents.

THANKS to You all. Now I need HELP AGAIN.

I have come across LG47LE8500 from Amazon for Rs92,000/- [72 + 20 Custom Duties]. This is LG's top-line state of the art model. I came across this thru "shopyourworld.com" ...we can pay in Indian Rupees.

Can I take the risk of ordering this from USA? [Wall mount not supplied]
This model has a THX certified screen; dynamic contrast ratio of 9 lacs:1; response time of 1 ms. Plays back from upto 3TB - usb HDD. 240 Hz

In India LG has launched only the 42" version and priced insanely at Rs 1.55 lacs!!

Note again that amazon dealers prices start from Rs70k to 1.1K for this model.

What about the international warranty and insurance duiring shipping ?

Thanks Kittu.... Insurance is covered. Now regards Intnl warranty - I am clueless if LG-India will abide by it. That's one risk I will have to take.

I have never shopped for anything from Amazon and actually scared to spend/blow up 1 lac.

Need to talk to the customer service guys in Mumbai [shopyourworld] - to sort our these querries.

Yes see if there is an option to buy intl warranty..And also confirm with local LG they honor such thing here...

You can even check your local gray markets to compare prices.

This seems to be very good option provided you are taking risk.

I just tried myself there and added 55" TV but the cart showing '0' and not allowing to edit.

The live chat is no use and doubt quality of their service.

You may want to check with few others who bought from them before.

NTSC...ah yes. But I thot all of today's TV's have multi-signal support [pal; ntsc; secam; mesecam]. Why my existing Toshiba 29" CRT which I got 13 years ago had it all. Nevertheless I will confirm. Voltage not an issue since it's 110-240V and 50/60Hz.

Thanks to also the other guy who reported "negative" for "shopyourworld". My cart shows the booking & deal as OK even as I proceed to check out......BUT the risk.....

I am also worried about the I-Tax guys chasing me since this is a large amount purchase order....lol. Of course all my dealings in life are white-money. And nuttin to hide

Nothing to worry about the income tax as you are already paying customs and duty...

1) Check for NTSC/PAL support
2) International warranty
3) Shipping insurance (Replacement / refund covered incase of damages)
4) Additional duties are charges
5) Voltage issues

And finally credentials/safety/feedback of trascating via shopyourwold....

Kittu
