46" or 47" LED TV....Help, is LG47LE4600 Good!

For the time being I hv started a new thread "46+ LED from Shopyourworld.com/Amazon - Help"..... If I get a positive feedback then I will review my choices again. My budget is between 70K to 1 lac and 46" or 47" size. My job has been video editing & today digital compositing. I have been in the professional broadcast field for over 17 years.... Seen & have hands-on experience on various media formats [from VHS to Digibeta; D3-D5 and now 720p; 1080p & i at various fps]. Working on professional broadcast monitors over these years makes me really MAD when I hv to shell out so much here in India for CRAP. So I am willing to go for the least expensive set with comparible PQ that meets mebbe half my expectations.

Now at last I dream of getting my own large-screen TV... It's obvious I want the BEST panel where PQ is concerned at a price that will NOT make my WIFE scream or faint ... :-) or me shed tears. I again repeat my expectations are

1. PQ to be really good [with options for wide range of manual calib's]- gamma; temperature [if possible]; etc.
2. Response time to be 2.5 ms or lower
3. Slim & lightweight [14 to 23 kgs]
4. Power cons - 110 to 175W
5. decent viewing angles
6. Sd [normal tv] signals shud not be grossly pixellated.
7. Good Contrast ratio.... [Sigh! gimme a THX certified panel......wowie anyday]

Meanwhile will appreciate all kinds of feedback out here.... U guyz do help to clear up the mess in my mind. Thanks

CLOSING DEAL on LG47LE4600 for 71K {with Blu-ray BD550 thrown in}... In Mumbai. I reviewed the LG4600 & LG5500 series for 47". The price difference is too much to opt for the LG5500 model.

FINAL CONCLUSIONS
1. Throw away the Offer of Blu-ray Player BD550 - thereby reducing Rs3500/- or so [So bringing down the cost to Rs 67500/-] for LG47LE4600...of course after exchanging my olde Toshiba 29" semiflat PIP TV [cost already deducted].
2. Blu-ray OFFER discarded - coz - It's not region free .... I tested my DVD's on it....and it did not play some of them [Original not pirated!]. I would rather go for a Sherwood BDP-5004 Blu-ray Disc Player [Rs7200/- and region free!]
3. DO NOT FALL FOR NETCAST/BROADBAND features on any LCD/LED/Plasma...these are gimmicks which cost us 15-20% more. All of these are available on Blu-ray players...which would be an addition to buying Full-HD TV's today.

Ciao

Are you sure did you compare LG 4600 with Sony EX 40 710 model....

Why not take the BDP and sell it for more price rather having reduced 3500 ?

It's not just the netcast ot broadband that 5500 has in addition, which is charged additionally too.
It's actually the localdimming in 5500,which is note worthy and worth the extra price in addition to the better contrast ratio.
Now,that the decision is made,congrats

that is worth extra 5 mk - if its full array local dimming.

Sony slahsed the prices by 10% . Check them too

I did not realize this until I checked their web site following your post. Real good. But another thing to be noticed is that their models like 46Ex710 which were published in sync with 46EX700 are no longer visible. The older 46EX700 is only visible. Seems it is a stock clearance.

Congrats again, was the PQ of 5500 much better than 4600?I have seen both ,couldn't see much difference. Terence ,which store in Mumbai is giving this offer? How much does 5500 cost for the 47inches?

Thanks Kittu. I may probably accept the BDP & sell it later :clapping: This seems a wiser suggestion. As regards comparing - I did all that [Sony KDL 46EX710 or samsung UA46C6200 UR]. See my initial post right at the top of this thread. Finally - Price Difference Matters

LG4600 vs LG5500 : The 5500 is marginally better PQ & it is NOT an "full array local dimming" - This consists ONLY in LG8500 series of which the 47" is not yet launched in India! See my earlier posts as I tried to source this from USA via shopyourworld.

Vijay Electronics at Santacruz East - just across the Western Exp Highway on the road leading to the station offers the best deal [tel 66783885-7]. Theirs is an LG Only showroom. They have both 47" on display - 4600 & 5500 series.

There was also a local dealer in Marol who quoted 69000/- ...... BUT does not have 47" on display.

I have not negotiated for the 5500. Will be visiting them again this morning to probably close the deal.

Heard the black levels arent that great in LG models please demo it properly under lights and without lighting .. (SD and HD Contents) .

Done that - Black levels are truly "phenomenal" - No exaggeration. Yes SD reception is OK - passable [pixels are noticible; but the same was also the case for any brand]. On large screen sets 46" and above SD signals are relatively poor.

Forgot to mention that LG has a scheme going on where u just pay Rs 61/- and pick up ur set....the rest in convenient EMI's [12-18 months]. No other down payment!!

61/-Rs thats the most elcheapo scheme I have ever heard .. go LG .

well i'am using the lg le 5500 47" almost 15 days now. not got any trouble or any issues till now. pic's are super in both sd and full hd. my viewing distance is about 15', using it with tata sky hd. and hd is simply mind blowing. felt like worth investing on it. waiting for a new bd and a new hts to pair it with.

DEAL CLOSED & GOT MY SET DELIVERED IN 2 HOURS.

LG 47LE4600 - Deal closed at 66.5k from Vijay Electronics, Santacruz E; Mumbai.... [free BDP lg550 cost deducted + old tv exchanged].

Note: Reason I refused the free Blu-ray Player lg BD550 - most of my DVD's were thrown out [Excel-Home Video; BIG Home Video] - what played were Moserbaer; Walt Disney Studios DVD's. Region Not Supported. This was a big dissappointment. No point in bringing it home to realise that 70-80% of my DVD's not playing. I am surprised that no one else reported this earlier.

Will create a new thread shortly and post my feedback on this set.
