50VT20 offers accross India (Hyderabad - 80k)

I had visited Phoenix Mills Croma.

The list price was 79990 which they brought down to 77000. As for glasses initially he said 2 glasses but then retracted saying that there are only a "pair of glasses"

I am getting more inclined towards Samsung 43D490 at half the price because I have a Full HD experience in my HT already at 108". I will prefer to watch high quality Movies / HD sports on the 108" screen. Thus this TV will be mainly for Tata Sky and ocassional movies when I am lazy to start the PJ.

Please try the Juhu or Phoenix mills Croma, they seem to be more receptive to bargain, I had a similar experience when I went to other stores.

Market forces are at work here in Delhi. When I picked up 2 units for my cousin on Sunday evening, the stocks for the 50VT20 stood at a very healthy 29. Suddenly today the stock is down to 8 units by today evening and this is at the Region level. So 21 tvs sold in 48 hours!!

Per the sales executive to whom I spoke on the phone a purchase of 4 units was made by someone on cash and the person specifically told them that the tvs were for 'resale'. It seems similar purchases were made at other outlets and the person has in-fact asked for 4 more units to be picked up tomorrow.

I will be going to the store to get my panel and will personally check the stocks at the regional level and will update from the store itself. Anyone sitting on the fence like I have been, this might be our last chance to get these panels. More from the store tomorrow.

Will be in the store later this morning. See you there.

Yeah yeah, blame the poor friend :P
I am here.

The Croma guys affirmed that your delivery was from their warehouse and not from Panasonic for which I have a recorded statement from them. I had returned delivery today after haggling them no end for why they didn't have Panasonic guys ship the display. They said that if at all Panasonic fellows had shipped you the Plasma, they would give me the plasma for free :D

Will take delivery from them tomorrow but I have made it abundantly clear that if at all they deliver a display piece, I would have the display promptly returned.
Have the entire convo recorded btw for leverage.

hehehehe, so here you are, :D, well, doesnt matter, have checked and everything is in order and as I said, it was only 51 min. used when I came back in the evening. Btw there are no HDMI cables in the package, maybe you can haggle that out, and do ask them about the wi-fi keyboard.

It's always Croma delivery when you purchase from them, even my VT20 came from their warehouse on sunday but the time was not suitable so it was stocked at the showroom for the day and then delivered to me in the evening, the panny guys only come for the installation later on. Just check the usage hours at the time of delivery to confirm you don't have a display piece that's about it.

They still don't have the wifi keyboards.
Can't I use the hdmi cable of the TATA Sky connection?
After how I terrorized them yesterday, I am sure they would be hating me already :/

@Guys: have you fellows tried recording shows with the built in dvr? I am thinking of buying an external hdd just for it.

What are you talking about? You cannot record TATA Sky HD to external HDD.

I assume you would record from TV. The Tata Sky PVR will take care of it. Still a neat feature to have

I don't think anyone has tried it so far. I don't have a spare HDD lying around that I can use. If you do try and find success, let us know.

I never said that!
But thanks for letting me know in advance.

I was merely letting my friend know that I may use the hdmi cable bundled (I hope it is, ain't it) with the TATA sky connection for using the hdmi out of my tablet to play content.

As for the other part, specs say that VT20 has an in built dvr. I get it that you can't use that to record stuff off a set top box, but since I also have cas and a separate sd connection in my area, I hope it is possible to record analog/free to air stuff ?

Record from TV is not available in Asian version. Only available in European version.

what are the USB ports for then???? It cannot playback from normal USB HDD(or can you? after updrading vierra cast?), and now you are saying we cannot even record, ah sad!!!!!!

@FR, Yes you can use the cable from Tata Sky but mind you, after wall mount, back panel is as good as unreachable(which is where my Tata Sky cable is connected). Only side panel ports are really accessible for me.

USB ports are for reading from USB device and playing videos / images from it (no mkv though).
The wall mount can be swiveled on a horizontal axis after loosening a knob on the side. It should be enough to make any connections.

I have made all my connections post wall mounting. It is a little incovenient, but not impossible.

All the back ports are accessible to me.
I guess depends on how the installation guy mounted your plasma.
At my place, the fellow had to improvise a bit as the cement on my wall was not good enough at some spots so the mounting screws were drilled in asymmetrically.

I did remind him excerpts from this forum wherein two guys had their plasmas fall off from the wall mounts, of which surprisingly he was aware.
He did even demonstrate the service menu himself to me on my request even though I knew the procedure.

The fellow gave me a bit of news that yesterday itself, someone "knowledgeable" bought five of these plasmas, some bloke in Noida, and another in Gurgaon and another in Pitampura.
So just a reminder to folks to swoop in fast till stocks last. I am guessing he is prolly referring to @khoj

Yeah, actually thats the way it is over at my place too but its like have to hold torch and see where exactly the ports are before trying to slid in the cable using your fingers and such, :p

That's our group.

I bought two TVs yesterday from Croma - East Of Kailash. Still waiting for the delivery. I must add that the people at Croma - East of Kailash are extremely unprofessional and keep changing their lies to cover up their previous lies. Bottom line is, that they are nto very straightforward people. If it were not for the incredible deal on this TV, there is no way I would ever buy or deal with these people again.

Good.. Now we have someone who has both a 50" Samsung and 50" VT20 plasmas to do apple vs apple comparison..
Let me know how they compare.

Below is my assesment comparing 42" 720p samsung and VT20.

1) VT20 has poorer SD. Samsung is far better.
2) VT20 has more natural colours but I like colour reproduction of samsung for SD.
3) Samsung actually handles motion in 50Hz signal pretty well. VT20 has visible motion issues in 50Hz.
4) VT20 has a green cast to faces. Samsung prounces a red cast. But red cast is more natural because it is more closer to human colours.
5) Excellent depth and black level. Incomparable to samsung by a big margin.
6) HD, 60Hz, 24Hz and anything else, there is no comparison. VT20 is a completely different league. Not even close.

The total count of sets picked up by the 'ahem' knowledgeable people now stands at 10 here + the 2 of you there so 12.

That's our group.

Yep that's us. In addition to the above, a tele conversation with rsidhu in the evening and a pm received a little while back indicate that the numbers may go up to 14.

five sets?????!!!!
you people have taken agency of Panasonic?

Dang, the secrets out ;)

Well, while I would not go that far it just goes to show what Autopsycho, myself and to an extent rsidhu went through to get this deal and then have it extended to individual purchases. As posted earlier 'kahani poori filmi hai' complete with one of the store's manager in GGN doing a disappearing act.

Anyhow, I have had a word with the store manager at E.O.K. and addendum bills for you and your friend were generated w.r.t the 2nd pair of the 3D glass. These (bills) are now in safe custody with Shubha, the executive from Bajaj finance & can be collected from her during store timings.

great. nice to know :)
How much did you guys get this for?
I hear you guys got yourself a pretty sweet deal because of the five sets.

Well yes, we did get a decent deal and it was initially negotiated for only 1 set. The addition of the second and a maybe for 2 more panels got us the additional pair of the 3D glass. Then it was a simple matter of getting it & the timeline extended for other members.

I feel that had we guys worked together, then with your price of 68K and our Tata sky+PVR & additional glass the deal could have been sweeter.

You can read the details of our deal here http://www.hifivision.com/televisio...ccross-india-hyderabad-80k-21.html#post298080

and see the deal getting even better here (read Autopsycho's post within my post and my response to the same).
