A nice Kenwood turntable on ebay

That's one of the yummiest DDs ever built. a non hfv audiophile in Ghaziabad has this and he says that this is the best TT he has in his arsenal.... and that's a strong testament from him, as he has ALL the best known ones -- 301, 401, SP10, Micro Seiki DDs, TD124, and even some of the EMTs!

that looks like a master piece out there, never knew that Kenwood manufactured such stuff.
Pesonally I would rate kenwood as a good mid to high end company after all Accuphase was formed by former Kenwood engineers.

Joshua, Technics SP-10 is worth adding to the list. As for EMTs, they fall in different price bracket. Their cartridges cost around Rs. 1,00,000. Lucky to have heard them at prem's home. A top notch turntable.

If one prefers DD turntables one affordable solution is to get old, good condition standalone Technics like SL-150 on which one can fit good quality tonearm. They are quartz locked for speed stability, which might be better than servo based DD turntables.

I am surprised that I left the SP-10 out:lol: May be I am still bearing a grudge that a Mark II slipped from my hands some years back. It had a very beautiful, seductively dark yet almost translucent and glossy Obsidian plinth from the factory. And SME3009/II Improved arm with Shure V15/IV cartridge. The only thing missing was the outboard power supply

EMTs are no doubt costly but then they are vintage machines no longer available new. They were classics in their life times, so as vintage they are even more valuable. Fully refurbed pieces are available from Europe from former EMT employees. Yes, the EMT TSD-15 cartridge costs a bomb but then there are lots of high end cartridges which are way more (obscenely) costly. Check out this line-up.

BTW, SP-10 Mark III are unobtainium, was sold only in Japan. Here's one commanding five digit price. It was an extreme machine with a 9 kg platter that spun to full speed within half a revolution, and stopped in the same duration.

I have heard the SP25 play and could not fine anything unsually great. It had a typical Technics sound signature. Later on I read online about direct comparisions made with the SL1200.

Taking about the Technics SP25, not Garrard SP25

Yes very few Cos. these days do r&D, thats why vintage stuff is in demand. Refurbishing the high fidelity equipments to their prime is important and it significantly adds to the cost.
Turntable world is fascinating. You probably know about this. A 'Tonearm' I would like to hear ...
