Woah, wish I was there! Kobayashi's Harakiri is probably my all-time favourite film.ANNOUNCEMENT
For those among you who plan to be in Goa next week:
*Next Thursday, 20th March, at 6.30 pm, we are screening the Japanese film _The Inheritance_ (1962,107 mins), directed by the legendary Masaki Kobayashi. known for films like The Human Condition and Samurai Rebellion.
This film is a stylish Japanese noir with a fantastic jazz music score and revolves around human greed and desire. With little time to live, a wealthy businessman decides to track down his three illegitimate children to distribute his wealth. That gets his employees and his wife going to see how best they can benefit from the situation, which leads to unexpected twists and turns.
Phenomenal record! I recommend digging deeper into the ESP catalogue. Some more free jazz gems on that label:SPIRITUAL UNITY | ALBERT AYLER TRIO

I discovered this album after nearly three decades of listening to most of the jazz greats from the years 1930-1970. Listening to this album, helped me understand the route that Coltrane took with Ascension and later albums. My initial reaction (when I first heard it) was one of bewilderment, tinged with awe. This was unlike any jazz that I had ever heard before. Definitely not an easy listening experience. This is one for a solitary listening experience, in a darkened room, with a seriously good HIFI system and a glass (or two) of one's favourite tipple at hand!

While the word ‘jazz’ is nowhere to be found on the cover, it’s certainly one of the ingredients in this exotic sonic cocktail. Other flavours include blaxploitation soundtracks, Booker T & The MGs, Lalo Schifrin, Giorgio Moroder and James Bond, to name a few. Very refreshing!
