AMD Fusion APU

Hi Guys

Glad to see some more people exploring the same route, have just ordered the following from Borderlinx

ZOTAC BARE BONES MINI PC SPORTING THE FUSION PLATFORM

ZOTAC ZBOX AMD E-350 APU 1.6 GHz Dual Core Barebone Mini-PC [ZBOX-AD02-U]

Generic 4 GB DRR3 1066 SODIMM Compatible with the above

and finally a 64 GB Crucial SATA 6 Gbps SSD Drive.

Waiting for all the 3 components to arrive, few minutes at assembly and then with Ubuntu,XBMC and few TB of HD movies on the Home Server , it promises to a party.

Did you get warranty for the motherboard? I am a little wary about buying stuff from SP Road.

Yup full manufacturer's warranty on everything. I'd not buy something similar to a Zotac as it deprives me of customization options and also costs more. I'm gonna get a slim blu ray drive and a Radeon 6420 graphics card soon. The latter is because the onboard 6310 doesn't deinterlace correctly.

Zotac is definitely available in India, just didn't have the patience to wait for its Indian launch
:licklips:
The entire deal worked out to around 21-22 k, didn't need a ODD for media as I already have a samsung bluray player. A solution like this with a blazing fast SSD and a small footprint works perfect for my need of streaming HD content from my home server. To each their onel

Isn't Zotac available in India?

Looks interesting Zotac Fusion platform

HTPC looks like a no brainer decision to me, better than a media streamer

Hey Reignofchaos, could you tell me where exactly this shop is and who is the contact person? Also, does he stock the Gigabyte AMD Fusion motherboards?

He may be able to order the Gigabyte but he definitely doesn't have it in stock. He has the MSI in stock. The shop is on the lane behind Ankit Computers. The guy to talk to is a fat dude named Dinesh.

@ Chaos
Will that graphics card fit inside the antec case that you getting.Did you check the coolermaster elite 100

Yup 6420 is a half height card and will fit inside. I saw the CM case - it looks and feels really cheap.

I'm getting the Antec ISK 310.

Great, I will drop in there one of these days. By the way, how much for just the motherboard?

I was just thinking, what if I want to go for something that has more processing power. Something like AMD Athlon stuff... Would that be too much for HTPC-only applications

I believe its around 8200 or so including tax. You could get a more powerful system but for pure video playback apps, it'll be overkill and it'd eat more power.

My cousin's kids come over once in a while and they are crazy about games. Was wondering if you could make any suggestions for processors that can handle gaming as well. How about the AMD Athlon?

Any athlon or core 2 duo should be able to play games as long as you pair it with a good video card. For games the video card matters far more than the cpu.

Playing games and something low power like the fusion or atom don't go too well together.

I think the IGP part of Fusion is ok, but the CPU is still the bottleneck.
Why not go for a i3 sandybridge itx solution? even a 150W PSU is enough to drive these, so case is not a problem.
Though I am not sure whether it would deinterlace, ofcourse..

Well from the reviews its seems both are made of similar thickness steel.

While the ISK310 wins the aesthetics department, the Elite 300 has space for a 3.5" HDD and 2x 2.5 HDD and a slim optical drive.
Its 1.5" wider and 1" shorter in height compared to the ISK310.

A itx version of the H67 will cost more then 10k in india + the cost of the processor.

hello friends,

I need a low cost assembled CPU unit/computer only i.e without monitor(as i use my LCD TV as monitor), without DVD/Bluray writer and keyboard-mouse, for downloading purpose only. From the net i got the following configuration:

Processors:

AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz, 1MB, AM3 Rs. 1575 (or)
AMD Athlon II X2 250 3 GHz, 2MB, AM3 Rs.2750

MotherBoard:
Asus M4A78LT-M LE (AMD 64bit Socket AM3 Based MotherBoard) AMD 760G Chipset 16x,V,8 ch S, L,F, DDR3 Rs. 2675
or
Gigabyte M68MT-S2 (AMD 64bit Socket AM3 Based MotherBoard) nVidia Chipset 16x,V,S,L, DDR3 Rs. 2300

Memory RAM
2 GB Dynet DDR 3 -1333MHz RAM Rs. 900

Hard Disk SATA 500 GB
Seagate/Western Digital SATA HDD 500 GB Rs. 1800

Aluminium Cabinet: Micro ATX Form Factor (All Cabinets are Includes SMPS & Power Cable)
Zebronics 10 Models w/USB ~ Rs.900
Mercury Many Models w/USB, From Rs. 1250

Please give suggestions/improvements to above configuration.

Also i could not find any low cost HDMI based Configuration, please suggest some options for the same

Thanks

^^Looks good but I'd suggest you get a basic Coolermaster/Gigabyte/Corsair PSU. Will cost around 2000 and will make sure the machine runs smoothly. Most cabinet bundled power supplies are absolutely terrible quality unless the cabinet is an antec or coolermaster.

I don't care much about space. All I need space is for a single 2.5" HDD which I already have. Aesthetics are much more important as this system is gonna be in the hall.
