AMD Fusion APU

I think the IGP part of Fusion is ok, but the CPU is still the bottleneck.
Why not go for a i3 sandybridge itx solution? even a 150W PSU is enough to drive these, so case is not a problem.
Though I am not sure whether it would deinterlace, ofcourse..

Yup thats gonna be faster with a separate graphics card. However I really don't care for speed in this case. For speed I have two other desktop rigs at home - one is a quad core (Q6800) and the other is a black edition dual core. Plus there are two more laptops. All I care for is enough horsepower to play movies.

^ I have a A64 3200+ S939 and a HD 5450, this thing stutters sometimes.
I am assuming that the Fusion CPU part would be not much different from my CPU. Horsepower-wise.
The reason why I kinda think that the CPU plays a good part in HD Video playback , even if you have a decent GPU. not so if you have a rocket GPU , though..

Btw , you back in Bng ? Mum stint over?!

Ok boys, I bought the Gigabyte E350N, Coolermaster case with 150W SMPS and 4GB Transcend RAM. Will post pics soon.
Should have looked at the faces of the other customers in the shop. They were all ooohh-aaahhh about the mini ITX mobo.

Vivek

@Vivek
How is the build quality of the cooler master, does the back panel bend like those cheap zebronics cabinets.
From which dealer did you buy it from.

It looked pretty good to me at the shop. It is in my car and I am at work. I will examine it and post some photos.
I know one loudspeaker dealer and went through him. He put me on to a shop called Meenakshi Computers. If you want to buy it too, go to the same chap. Friendly fellow and quite helpful also.

Was following this thread and its helped me decide on my HTPC spec. Thanks vivek, roc, hydra et al. Been undecided for days on whether to go the separate Pro and mobo route but reckon for my use of music and movies the spec given above with gigabyte APU looks good. A few noob questions
1. Is it possible to add a sound card say the asus STX sonar in the Elite 100 cabinet?
2. With the above mobo Can I channel music and movies seperately? Meaning Music = Foobar-coaxial out--DAC--Reciever--speakers
& movies = VLC player-hdmi out--Receiver--TV & speakers

Thanks

I got my MSI E350IA-E45 board, 4GB corsair XMS3 and the Antec ISK-310 up and running yesterday. Still need to install the OS. Tested it with an Ubuntu live cd and all seems to be okay.

Holding off buying the graphics card for now as I want to test the on board 6310 first and see how it performs.

Need to add - the case is a bargain for 4800 rupees. Its built like a tank, putting things in it is super easy and it looks really elegant with the aluminium front bezel. Totally worth the money.

Do post some pics roc. Would like to compare between elite100.
Thanks

Shall post in the evening. Anyways I had a look at both the cases side by side. The Elite 100 looks super cheap. Even though coolermaster claims to use the same gauge of steel as antec, there's a massive difference in build quality.

Also it has a cheap looking plastic front bezel and plastic buttons. In comparison the antec is on a different planet with an aluminium bezel and brushed aluminium buttons.

Also the design inside is haywire in the coolermaster - there's no defined airflow path in it. In comparison the antec has vents on both sides of the case and has provision for two fans (one fan installed) on one side.

The only reason to buy the coolermaster is price and the fact that it can take a single desktop drive. The latter is a big no no anyway in an htpc since you would value the silence of a laptop drive.

Thanks a bunch ROC. Now regarding the Antec, a Batman question. Does it come in Black?
I think not so I'm considering the Silverstone SSG05B as well or something similar. I have a budget of 8K for the cabinet so if you have suggestions please do tell.

Could u give a noob explanation for the above? Didnt quite get it.
Thanks

Typically laptop drives are quieter than desktop drives. Hence putting laptop drives is a better idea in an HTPC. Unfortunately there's no black option in the ISK.

Well now that you have installed it did you check the quality of the cabinet, does the backplate bend when you installed the motherboard backplate.
Also how noisy is the power supply.

I saw the case and liked it. So, I just went ahead and bought it. The quality is fairly good. I have not seen the Antec and won't be able to tell.
The CPU and SMPS fans are quiet. I don't think it will be heard with movies playing in 5.1.
