Amp for Harbeth Compact 7eS3

I recently heard the Devialet with the Compact 7 as well as the SHL5+.. Very good sound with an excellent grip over the speakers..... You also save money by selling off your DAC... If it comes in your budget, then go for it...

there are lot of reviews on the net..

the Uniti 2 is the 70W version - please check naim website and online reviews..

they say all good things about it and it looks to be an all in 1 as well

i havent heard the uniti 2 myself - since the discussion veered to devialet i thought i could point you to this option from Naim.

with a 400 VA power supply and 11 kg weight and the nauim badge on it - i suppose not much would be wrong with it.

but YMMV - is always the usual caveat.

regards

Integrated amp from Lavardin or LFD is the typical recommendation for Harbeth. But since the availability and price is a problem you could look at promising alternatives like Hegel. Since you already own Hegel DAC it would be worthwhile to look at an amp from Hegel as well.

Naim, Lavardin, LFD, Sonneteer are all british designed amps and will go well with Harbeth - not that hegel wouldnt - the Naim Uniti 2 has everything and includes

CDP
Amp
Streaming options
DAC etc..
Radio
Internet radio

so any separate DAC can be sold off..

anyways the trend seems to be for a 1 box solution that does everything you want.

With 1 box solution - it is important to have good after sales - as 1 component failure can potentially trip up the whole show.

Renjith,

Have you considered inserting a stereo power amp (or a couple of monoblocks) between PM7001 and Harbeths?
If interested, I have a couple of muscle amps you can audition with.

Cheers,
Raghu

Sure Raghu.I have never tried adding power amps to PM7001.
Thanks for the offer. We can try. Please PM me your contact number, I will call you.

I feel PM7001 has lot of power because I never go above 11 clock position .

Thanks
Renjith

Hi mpw,

I guess the Naim Uniti model available is a demo model.
Since it is a one box solution I am also bit worried since any issue will act like a show stopper .

Thanks

1 box - just like the devialet you were open to buying..

but these products are built very well so the possibility is rare

OTOH - the advantage of a Quality 1 box solution from Naim is very obvious too.. and the most potent advantage is the unified sound - no running around mixing matching fiddling with cables and interconnects and time passing on the forum :D

Just play the music..;)

The price offered is very delicious if you have someone coming from there to here..

but its your call in the end...

happy hunting !

Totally agree. These days I am playing music mostly on a 1-box powered DSP soundbar.
Just power on the MP/HDD/soundbar combine, browse, play and forget about it until end of folder.
When I get the chance (which is rarely) I power on the DAC-pre-power-standmounts.
Nice to have this choice.

Raghu

Hi,

I am contemplating getting the C7es3 too. I heard the 30.1 and p3esr with my current amp Rega Brio-r and found it was an alright match, but was lacking depth in the soundstage and overall the dynamics were a bit grey. It was as if the Brio was being stretched and was trying too hard. But the details were nice and is forcing me to consider the Elex-r, which is in the price bracket of around 1 lakh.

The Rega Elex-r has great reviews online and is also considered a good match with the Harbeths. They have decent power at 72.5W into 8?, 90W into 6? and 113W into 4?. Wonder if anyone has heard this amp?

I think Rega has a new distributor/dealer setup in Bangalore (Tusker audio are the distributors/Palani from Audio Planet is the dealer). Do check it out. Let me know your opinion if you do.

Hi,
I have heard C7es3 at my home with Rega Elex-r. It was very nice, rounded and refined, only confusion was to go with Elex-r or Elicit r. The difference was mainly power (72.5W to 105) but cost difference was high, I believe it was 1.75 for Elicit-r.

Mean while I got an option to buy Devialet 120. So I am bit confused between Rega and Devialet though price wise there is big difference between both.

Not sure if your Hegel hd11 dac has a volume control. If so you can also consider buying a power amp. and using the hegel as a pre/dac. That way you can buy a higher end amp. with more power.
Cheers,
Sid
