Amp for Harbeth Compact 7eS3

Renjith,

good detail at low listening levels is usually a speaker phenomenon rather than an amplifier one although overall system matching plays a big role...

not true - here the source ( Source = source material recording + playing hardware ) comes into the pic and so does the pre-amp section.

the amp is supposed to be faithful to the signal it gets from upstream components of the chain and to amplify the signal.

Only after this happens does the speaker come into the picture ( ie resolving power of the speaker incl a good crossover execution )

From my experience of hearing the C7's thrice - these speakers need kick up their rear to get them singing so i would go with a faster amp for the C7 - but thats just me.

YMMV.

System matching - is a universal truism - thats true for everything around - almost.

regards

mpw, what square_wave means is, high sensitive speakers typically perform well at low volumes. They respond to minute signals better. I agree that Harbeth may not be one of them.

dr bass

the quality of minute signals matters - else a topping would do fine.

i responded specifically based on my experience with the C7 - for whatever it may count

best regards

I would be interested to know of any specific high sensitive speakers you are referring to. I'm actually using Harbeth SHL5 right now and they are performing extremely well even at low volumes, unlike my KEF speakers that only "kick in" after a certain point.

@mpw,

There are super finicky low volume listening addicts and the general low volume listener. I do not know what category the OP belongs.
Low volume listening can be taken to an art form by the first category by using speakers which are time / phase coherent with a benign impedance / frequency curve.usually with first order crossovers. Combined with certain amplifier types and cables they are a revelation. I know one such audiophile in Bangalore :) I once heard an entire symphony at super low volume level at his home. The cables were also super important at these levels of fidelity pursuit. We changed the cables to something else and the sound became flat although the details were all there..

Of course, if the rest of your gear is not up to it, you will not get musical detail at low volume levels.

low level volume listening can be quantified by dB levels - and for that an android app is available for a reasonable measurement.

what i was trying to say that that only speakers cannot be the reason for low volume enjoyment which i inferred from your earlier post.

anyways - its all upto the OP to decide what he wants.

we can only hope the OP send us a crate of beer each after he has decided

i dont know for sure but i think it will be interesting to see the impedance curves of both your speakers - the kef and harbeth shl5

or atleast the min impedance levels that each of then drop to.

It can only be quantified not qualified with a DB meter. Volume level is not equal to music :) Cheers for the beer :):)

What is the difference between AS 2000 and AS 2001?
AS2001 is costing 1500$ more than AS 2000.

Actually As-2000 was a amp designed by yamaha guys keeping in mind that it will surpass any any amp that describes....purity is ultimate...
production was stopped for 2000 in 2011 as there was some fault with power supply with different voltage flucuations...
now as-2100 it
has been introduced with some refinement...
if you get the as-2100...then nothing like it in this budget....because this amp is built with no compromises as far as my reading goes along with experience with AS-2000. I am using CVT as power source and till date no issues with anything...

As-2000 is not available anymore....As-2100 is available elsewhere apart from india...and you can import or can ask any friend to carry along..
If you can get As-2000 used..then nothing like it...

But try to audition Parasound Halo Integrated amp..

dheerajin,

So you compared AS2000 with Naim Supernait and most of the people preferred AS 2000, good to know that. I think I have seen your post about that but I completely forgot about that. Where I can get AS2000 in India and what will be the price for the same.

Any idea about Trigon Energy amps? Heard good about this amp. Best part is that it is available in India at a good price compared to price in Europe and with warranty.

Thanks
Renjith

I have heard this while listening to my Leben with w blumenhoffer Funs speaker in a large room and found he Trigon was far better in that combo than my amp as the Leben was slow while the Trigon brought the energy and the speakers to life without sounding bright.

Jochen is a good person to talk to and deal with as he gives you the right advice rather than what is good for his business . And the pricing is very fair.
In my case he had even advised to go for a brand not even sold by him !!!

if time permits, please audition also big fun 17 with trigon integrated and pre & TRE50 and share your view.

Hi,
One amplifier that has not been mentioned at all in this thread is Symphonic Line. I have heard the Rg14 and Rg 10 with Proac tablettes and they sounded superb. The combo may work very well with Harbeths too. ARN usually has one of these models in stock. No harm in checking it out.

Guys any one heard Devialet-120 amp with any speakers?
I have got an option to buy it from Dubai a fresh model. Owner has upgraded to Devialet 200 and he is pairing it with PMC fact12 speakers.
But unfortunately I cannot hear it with my comapact 7.

If you guys have any opinion on Devialet please let me know.

For Ease/inconvenience and quality this is a great product. you also save on cables since this is a source/Amp/preamp/Phono all in one with a wireless streamer as well !!

Sound quality is what you must check on. Best place to post is the Harbeth forums

if convenience > SQ for you then you should just go for it ;)
