Friends,

I have a receiver upgrade plan in my mind and if things goes well, I will be purchasing one from Dubai as I am visiting Dubai in April. I have Denon x2300w/ yamaha rx581 / Pioneer vsx1131 in my mind, and will finalize after auditioning. As this is the first time I am visiting Dubai, do you have any suggestion for reliable shop in Dubai where I can audition and get a good bargain for AV receivers? Any other model you can suggest, for 90% movie - 10% music use?

Upgrade of my surround speakers was also in my list, but I think baggage limits will be compromised if I add speakers as well.

Hi

If you purchase from Dubai, you will not get warranty....also you need to consider the weight of these AVRs..(10 to 14 kgs) and the cost airlines will levy per KG...also our great friends...Customs.....

You would be better off purchasing in India at competitive rates...there are many dealers...all you need is to decide and see who gives the best...it will be with warranty..

..Indian warranty is limited to one year when compared to warranty offered in other countries which ranges from 3-5 years.

What is your budget for AVR? It is best you check your grey market sources in your nearest city abt the prices and then compare the prices in Dubai, so you can take a decision.

As efernand1 suggested, getting it from grey market will workout cheaper..They manage the hassles of customs and freight..

Sharaf DG is a popular site to get approx prices - https://uae.sharafdg.com/

Some months back, there was a thread discussing about buying a new denon AVR (not sure of the model though) from olx chennai. That Hifi member got the AVR but that thread has been silent. You might want to check out the olx too

Hi
If you plan to buy from Dubai, go to Dubai mall. All electronic showrooms are there. If you need any help, please sent a mail to me [email protected]. I am working in Dubai.
Thanks
Anil

Thank you all for your responses. I will definitely check price there and compare , before I take a call. Anil, thanks... I will definitely check Dubai mall showrooms

We don't need to pay any customs on items costing below 50,000 per person. So I guess one can simply purchase an AV Receiver/speaker which costs less than 50k and can simply take it with him. Isn't that right?

Yes.. Don't worry too much abt this.. It is a hit or miss case.. Scribble on the AVR carton box with a pencil or crayon, to give not a new item impression at first glance.. Juz in case duty is needed, reason it out with them and pay it..

The amount varies depending on the time who stays away from India..

If you are returning to india after more than 10 days time, you are straight away exempted for 50K..

If you returning to India after a years time, the limit can go up to to 2 Lacs..

It doesn't matter if it's now or old it's the value, and 50k limit is for more than 3 days stay as far as I know so it a pretty good deal if you can get an AVR which costs 55k in India for 35k from Dubai!

By the way, I forgot to update this thread earlier. I had indeed purchased Denon 2300 from Dubai and brought it back without any hassle. I packed the receiver without removing the carton in a checkin luggage and there were no issues afterwards
