Batery powered DIY CNC phono stage

+ and - : 18v
+ and G : 9v

ICs are working fine.

How to check whether the individual components are working?

Thanks for the comments. Solved the issue, one of the solder pad was very thin and the solder was not properly touching the solder track. Exposed the connecting track by scratching it with a blade and applied the solder on the track to the component and voila, it started singing again.

Sachin

I received my Super OM10 cart from Needledoctor.I have mounted it on ultra low mass arm of my Micro Seiki, set loading to 62k CNC.Its sounding great, better than M55e.

Hi all,

Here are the pics of my CNC Phono + Simple preamp :
The pre-amp is powered by DC (9v regulated Power supply, I preferred the sound of BURR BROWN 2134 OPamp over the AD823, especially for the vocals. It has 2 inputs Phono & Line-level, and one output line level , the input is selectable from a changeover switch.

Hi sachu,

Yes it is a plastic case available locally, meant for use as cabinet/chassis for electronic circuits. Now, the preamp is being burnt in , will post reviews once it stabilises on sound.

@Sachin,

I will be starting the enclosure/cabinet work for my active x over and class A amps soon. If you are interested please let me know.

My plan is to build enclosure with 5mm or 10mm aluminium front panel and the rest with 1mm CR sheet. On the back side 2mm acrylic with labels engraved.

I will post the dimensions and drawings soon.

thanks,
Bibin

Hi Bibin,
We are always up for good quality enclosures at affordable price.I am sure there are many members looking for good quality enclosures.I have seen your enclosures you posted on HFV,they look very high quality.

@Sachin,

I will start a new thread once the drawings are ready. I am gonna make two types of cabs. One for amp (17"W x 13"D x 5"H) and other for active x-over/preamp (17"W x 13"D or 8"D x 2.5"H). This is my initial plan about the dimensions. Please share if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Bibin

Hi Bibin,
All metal cab, with engraved Acrylic or Aluminium would be fine,if it saves some cost. Most of my Phonostages and preamp kit would require 7L x 5W x 2.5H inches.
Pass B1 board is bigger(7.5 inches width). It will require min. internal height of 60mm,because of two big Electrolyte caps.

Sachin

Hi all,

On a lighter note the simplest cost effective cabinet for the CNC Phono would be a Haldiram's sweets case that comes in transparent plastic.

Hope Haldirams wont see the HFV messages else they may increase the price for sweets that are box packed.:) Who knows it may come with 10mm alum face plate with their logo engraved.

I completed hydra's Phonostage early this morning. Actually it was done two days back but on testing there was no sound. Discussed this issue with Sachin(sachu888) and isolated the issue to the opamp being fitted wrongly. Thanks for your help Sachin. Should reach Hydra tomorrow.

More than the soldering, I really enjoyed making a frugal enclosure for the phonostage. I have posted some W.I.P pics here:

About the sound, I was able to listen to it for about an hour today. Very nice detailed sound. I was amazed at the retrieval of HF, I have never heard my Pioneer PL-15 sound this good. It beats the Project Phonobox easily. I am told sound improves with over 30hrs on it. I still haven't built mine, will do soon.

Thank you, santhosh! You're the man! I can't wait to listen to it with the TT. :)

The TT has been shipped to me, but I might be able to get it and set it up only by next weekend. The next week is going to be torture!

No worries Hydra :)

Oops, just noticed in the pic (Not so visible in real) that the inner part of the RCA is also colored red and black. Use the outer insulation color as a reference while plugging the RCA Left and Right.

Sure thing. The RCA-pair with red inside are the input and the RCA-pair with the black inside are the output, so I guess it does made sense :)
