Bravia HX850 successor -W900A with Quantum Dot !

Like i said once they are calibrated you can't see much different between the tv especially on flagship models with local dimming.

I am skeptical about the local dimming on w900 after it was specifically mentioned by Whathifi that details in dark were not good!!

Whathifi has a poor credibility in this very forum.I remember a few years back they said they saw better blacks in a panasonic 32 or 37" " lcd with IPS panel then a Sony 32 or 37" " with a VA panel, thats when they lost my respect.

The W900 has a VA panel and local dimming just like the older HX850 ,so if whats hifi bothered to professionally calibrate it , there won't be a black crush.

Sony is trying to put across this message "This TV is only for the PURISTS. If you want it you'll have to pay for it". This used to worked for SONY in the past (Walkman and Triniton days), it surely won't work now.

Purists buy LCD's from Sony ? that is news to me.

Btw they were the same guys who gave hx850 --the best tv award for 2012 in both 40 and 46 inch categories. !!!!

Just checked out the 55" W800 and I have to say that I was disappointed. Compared to the Samsung F6800, the W800 was smearing details, reflecting the whole room and adding a tinge to the black. I'd have to say that the HX850 is definitely better than the W800 in the PQ department.

Reflections are for to the gorilla glass top. Some showrooms will suggest more reflections. At the home, thus will not be a problem.

I don't think the W800 has a gorilla glass.Where as the HX850 did have a gorilla glass with opti contrast which has anti reflective coatings both on the outside and inside to minimize and eliminate the internal reflection respectively.

The HX850 was a stunning tv with a PSA-SPVA panel and local dimming.where as the W800 gets a Lg IPS panel with only global dimming.

Is the review implying that details in dark are better on hx850?

They didn't mention anything like that, but what they did say is the panel used in this tv as a higher native contrast then that of the HX850.

So this tv looks like its going to be a perfect match for gamers with its lowest input lag of any HDTV and support of tri luminous extended video out from Sony PS4 ,not sure if game devlopers will also make games with extended color gamut support.

For others who wants to see the wide color gamut of this tv they will have to make do with the remastered Sony Blu Ray dics which have the X.Y.CC color or wait for the 4k color standard to be implemented.

Yep. Fantastic review there and puts my faith back greatly on this set. :D

All the negatives whatHIFI mentioned can be rectified in settings, so no big deal.

And as HDTVPolska mentioned, it has higher ANSI contrast than HX850.

Add to that the most accurate greyscale and colors of ANY 2013 HDTV (including VT60/ZT60/F8500) out of the box

Of course, the lowest EVER input lag of any HDTV ever made is a major plus as well

The review clearly says that local dimming is less effective in w900 than its predecessor hx850.
Is engaging local dimming optional in w900?

You see even though it's less effective in W900, W900 without any dimming has lower black levels and higher contrast than HX850 with dimming. :yahoo:

HX850 black level measured at 0.07, W900 at 0.049.

ANSI Contrast of HX850 - 2200:1, W900 - 3650:1

;)

Thanks for the cnet review of 802a on another thread.
According to the review, even w802a is beating w900 w.r.t shadow details in the PQ.
I am feeling certain now, after both cnet and whathifi are concurring on the shadow details, that w900 is coming out to to be underperformer in this department.
After all, producing strong blacks without shadow details is not acceptable.
