Hi,

I am building a dedicated HT room on the terrace, right now masonary work is going on and the contractor gave me an estimate of 5-6 Weeks for the entire room.

I am a DIY kinda guy and would build the setup with advice from you guys. My room layout is 17 feet by 10 feet. If I leave half a feet each side for speakers, I will have a 9 feet screen size.

Right now I am sourcing a projector from USA through a colleague, I have kinda zeroed in Acer H5370BD. Will this projector be able to fill the above size? At what distance should I hang the projector from the screen?

Have anybody in the forum have this Acer H5370BD model? How is the general opinion about this PJ from the members here at hifivision...

Thanks,
Prem

I have to do internal electrical wiring, can you guys give some inputs about the height of front speaker and rear surround position from ground level. Depending on this the electrician may need to do the plumbing.

I am planning to go for Energy Classic 5.1 or a similar setup.

Thank you Baiju, thank you your reply as well as the Dolby link. My original plan was to have the speaker at the 10 feet wall which will be the screen. That would have reduced my screen size to around 9 feet. Now seeing another post in this forum, I am planning to use the entire 10 feet for the screen and will move the speakers to 3 feet in front on the side wall.

Will this layout work? I am also attaching a photo of the construction... it has gone up a little more than this.

Brought Acer H5370BD through a friend in US, he will be coming during 2nd week of July, waiting time now. I am happy with the purchase.

Today is also the last day to avail the 50USD offer on this PJ using the promo code... it is a real good deal considering it is 3D and not just 3D ready.

Luckily was able to get it for INR 23,200, still haven't got it at hand and don't know the customs formalities.

Well i have heard that acer as well as optoma projectors often face dmd issues

Tell your friend to use it for a week there, so that you can be sure that its not a faulty unit. Even if it was, newegg has 30 day replacement.

just my 2 cents to be on safer side. Once imported to India you can't to do much about it.

I guess customs, won't gonna charge you more than 5k for it. Plus if your friend can make the custom officials believe that its not a brand new item and he uses it for official presentation whenever he travels for business trips or something like that, you can evade the custom charges.:ohyeah:

Ishop quoting 37k @ 450$ price
well when I checked it through them, i got the quote at 30k with free shipping and unit price at 400USD, also they offer 500Rs off for 1st time order.

Thats right.

@Premblr - Ask your friend to bring the projector in unsealed condition.
Although, he can carry upto Rs. 35K(??) value of new items without the need of paying any custom charge. So an act of smartness can save you lot money :indifferent14:

Thank you for all the advice, hope my projector doesn't have any DMD issues ;) don't know if it will be a good idea to use the projector as I am sure the bachelor boy will utilize it to his maximum.

Yes, I will also ask him to unpack it and then get it...

well just tell your friend to use it for a week to see if its a faulty unit or not, as there was only one review on amazon and it mentioned that the projector died after one day.
And don't worry that much about DMD issue as mostly people face this after 1.5 or 2 years of use. :clapping:
