Building a dedicated HT room on the terrace

1. Gypsum, my false ceiling is only around the corners. I have also reduced the ceiling height to 9.25 feet instead of 10. Reduced 1 row of solid block construction. Will be ceiling mount.

2. Separate pipes laid for power and hdmi while concreting from front wall to the ceiling.

Oh ... Cool !
I just want to know how wiring should be done to connect the projector to a UPS. How do you connect your projector to a UPS (I am assuming that there is one ) which is placed in the front. As abrupt shut down of projector may lead to failure of the bulb, connecting the projector alone to a UPS is a cheap solution instead of backing up all the equipment with an inverter.

Yes, projector alone with a UPS will need to be connected and placed in front. My area doesn't have that abrupt power cuts. BTW, the power cut also shouldn't be a problem I guess as the projector has an instant switch off function, why would they provide that if that is an issue. By default, this mode was also enabled.

Good Point. The UPS also makes a huge noise. So important to keep it away from the HT setup.
There are two types of UPS- The offline and the online versions.
When i bought my projector, i had read that if the fan doesnt work for 10ms, the bulb will blow. Regular offline UPS (sukam, some models of APC etc) have a cutover time of 50ms or so. and hence are not suitable.
Not sure how the UPS market is now, but when i had my Projector (2008) i had to shell 50k for an APC 2KW online pure since wave model.

Congrats:clapping:,

The setup looks very clean and neat.

Have you ordered for any AV racks to keep the UPS and Blu ray player in the front? Also were you able to finalize the Sofa cum bed?

Naren

Thanks naren, I have brought the sofa cum bed but haven't moved it up as I want all the debris and dust to settle. You will be amazed by its capabilities, ordered it from the furniture expo that happened in Bangalore 1-2 weeks back. Similar to the one I already posted but color scheme as that of my room.

AV rack no, I am planning to add some kind of a unit under the screen.

This looks very beautiful. are you ordering online ? please let me know the source. i am also planning to buy this.

Dealer in Bangalore. Yet to receive them as there is some customs delay. New Polk tsx series.

Have you auditioned tsx series? How is it? What is the cost? I remember intially you are impressed with JBL! Is This purchase includes AVR?

Please share more details on your planed audio setup.

I got a very similar AV rack and LP/CD/DVD rack build by my carpenter using plywood. I will start my detailed HT build thread in a week. Here is a sneak peak on the AV rack and Media Rack.

The AV equipements will go inside the cabinet. Right now they are placed above the cabinet. LCR speakers will go above the cabinet.

Right now I have kept my old Jamo FS speakers to just test things. This will give way to my dedicated stereo FS. These FS will be only used for stereo.

WOW John that preview photo looks great:clapping:,

Lot of Bangalore home talkies coming up and at this rate Theater owners will need to do some renovations like adding Dolby Atmos\Auro 3d to pull us to their theaters.

As someone suggested earlier it will be better in our forum if can we have a separate subsection for Dedicated Home theater\Room setup.

Hi Karthik, you can buy that rack online at Buy Home Furniture & Home Furnishings @ Online Housefull Furniture Store

Swamy, for the budget of around 55K for 5.1 which includes front towers and a 10 inch sub and bookshelves as rear, the TSX series cannot go wrong. The earlier TSi series itself sounded good for movies. This series is an improvement over the previous one. Even the specs look good, so I will buy this. I couldn't find a better deal at this price point.

Prem,
Your HT looks pretty similar to mine, heck i even have the same color (Crimson Depth) on the screen wall. One thing i'd suggest is to consider painting the ceiling in a darker shade. I can see light reflection from your ceiling (same with mine before i couldn't tolerate and painted it in a shade of dark blue). I'm saying this because it'll be difficult to do this later with all the equipments around.
Also i strongly suggest you to consider acoustic treatment before you wrap up the work. In a small room there will be tons of reflections that become unbearable over the duration of a movie. Again my experience. I can't describe the feeling after i DIYed some acoustic panels and screwed them on to my walls. Now no fatigue. You can test how bad the reflections are in your room by using the simple "clap test".

I'd recommend to keep away from housefull store if possible and go with @home or get it fabricated by a good carpenter.

Exactly, the cheaper ones are all low quality chinese board which will give away soon. Get a carpenter to do or buy a good brand.

Sash,

Great coincidence (Crimson Depth) and thank you for your inputs. I will surely do the the acoustic treatment if it cannot be controlled by the use of thoughtful furniture. I will also go the DIY way. Can you please share some thoughts on the clap test. Even the panels will further add to the decor of the room.

I totally agree with painting the ceiling darker. I am planning to put the black / ebony Anutone acoustic panels for ceiling false ceiling (150/sft including installation. The tile will cost 90/sft). With this panel, you dont need to fill with any glass wool or anything else inside and I am planning to pull the wires through the false ceiling. This is what I am planning to put - Anutone - makes you feel good

-John.

raghu, thank you for the link. If at all I am doing it, I will go by the DYI way of buying perforated sheet and covering the same with good fabric that will match my decor. It will be a good way to spend one weekend.
