Building a dedicated HT room on the terrace

@Premblr, if possible, please change your ceiling color to a darker shade. I have had this issue before and the ceiling reflects the picture becoming a pain..

Btw, what are the dimensions of your room and of the picture area of the screen? I looks a bit oblique. Is it becoz of the camera angle?

Congrats Prem :clapping: !!
I just loved it !!! :licklips:
Waiting for more pictures .......

As you are building such a beautiful HT, you have to bare with me and answer all my questions about the screen, projector, speakers, wooden flooring, wall colors, false ceiling etc ....... :ohyeah:, most importantly please share the obstacles you faced / facing while constructing the HT, that will help us a lot.....

Update number 2 for the day, wooden flooring is also complete now.

Koushik, the front wall is the screen. It is white with a slight tinge of gray and 5 inch black borders around. All painted.

Thank you KK, will surely share all the details when needed.

Realactivex, The room size is 17 x 10. I am taking the picture from an oblique angle to cover the screen, wall and flooring. That's why it looks like this, I will post pictures from straight angle later. The false ceiling kind of blocks the light getting reflected on top. I will surely update if I find the issue and will also paint a little darker shade.

Ankit, No custom duty paid for the projector, my friend carried it from US. The screen is plain wall painted with a light gray tinge of Asian paints Royale emulsion. The black borders are also painted.

@premblr- Superb!
At what time of the day were these pics taken? Amazing light control. You have almost achieved the bat-cave state of movie viewing experience :-)

Have a few questions:
1. What did you finally use (paint and # of coats) to create the screen (I do follow your thread- not sure if i missed this info)
2. did you have to run around for approvals to build the room? how much did your costs come to (would be great if you give a splitup as this would atleast serve as a reference for bangalore folks)

The screen is created by 2 coats of normal white over birla putty and then 2 more coats of light gray over the white. Actually, 2 coat of initial white wasn't planned. I had informed him to only apply 1 coat and then go with gray. He forgot and for that reason it became 4 coats.

Approvals, standard building norms apply, PM me if you need finer details on this. I am sure you know how things work here right, don't worry its all about something that sounds like honey...

1) Is that royale play on the side walls? I can observe a tinge of reflection of the screen on walls in front portion of the room, is that visible only in the pictures ?

2) Can you please share the color code you used for screen ? Because, yesterday, I opened the Asian paints website to check out the colors and there were numerous color codes in the category of white.

3) What is the screen size (dimensions). And the height of the bottom of screen from floor.

4) Why did you choose wooden floor over a carpet ? How much did it cost /sft ?

Please bare with me

1. Yes, Royale play has a glaze, You can go for tractor emulsion and that will not be glossy. The gloss also helps in a little gain as per my opinion on the screen.

2. Gray was made with mixing the black I brought for the border to standard white. Black is Raven song, Red color is called Crimson Depth.

3. I am getting a 130 inch diagonal screen. 37 inches from floor.

4. Wooden flooring looks and feels premium. I have to also double this room as a guest room. Egger (made in germany) flooring, 169 psft, got it at a sale at around 109 psft. The side cladding is more expensive and they run at 100 per running feet. The cladding costs around 40% price of whole flooring.

Thanks Prem !

I heard from many of my friends and relatives Royale play is very expensive.

How expensive is it when compared with other paints like Premium Emulsion,Tractor Emulsion etc. When I checked the paint budget calculator on the Asian Paints website, here is the quote (paint only) I got for a room of 300sft carpet area.

Royale Shyne Luxury Emulsion:
Paint : Rs.10122 To Rs.10405.5
Labor :Rs.13664.7 to Rs.16648.8
Total: Rs.23786.7 To Rs. 27054.3

Tractor Emulsion :
Paint: Rs.7465.5 To Rs.7654.5
Labor: Rs.10078.43 to Rs.12247.2
Total: Rs.17543.93 To Rs. 19901.7

Have you used this tool, if so, is it accurate at the estimation ?
And why is the labor charge more for royale play ? can't an ordinary painter do it ?

Prem i have few questions.

1. why did you construct in Solid Blocks instead of Bricks?
2. what is the distance between your PJ and screen?
3. what is the maximum screen size can we get in the size of your HT
4. where did you ordered your speakers?

Regards
Karthik

Thanks Mohanavel for your cooment.

KK, Royale needs lot of putty and sand paper work as small undulations show up badly. That is why extra labour. Don't look at the paint charges, they will be same as Royale has more coverage area. Paint costs Rs. 530 per liter as the shades are dark. Royale is around Rs. 500 per liter.

Don't go by the tool, speak to a local painter and you will be much better of with the prices. I haven't used that tool.

Karthik,

1. Solid blocks will ease up 6 inches when compared to bricks.
2. Around 14 feet, I am yet to ceiling mount it.
3. 10 feet. The size of the screen wall.
4. Dealer in Bangalore. Yet to receive them as there is some customs delay. New Polk tsx series.

> What is the false ceiling type ? Gypsum or POP ? Are you mounting the projector to the false ceiling or directly to the roof ?
> How did you plan cable management: HDMI and power cable for projector.
