Building a dedicated HT room on the terrace

Our FM, realactivex have auditioned the TSX330T at PRO FX this weekend and his comments were "Brilliant speakers". You can PM him if you want more details. I may be getting mine too soon.

I'd also suggest you wait for a little more time for the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer SP-FS52 which is going to launch this month in India (as per AVMax Aug issue). Google for it - it has been reviewed as the best speaker in that price range and is compared to speakers many times it's price for sound quality. Should come in 5.1 and as FS only.
Price mentioned was, hold your breath, Rs. 15k for a pair.

Hi all,

At last got the Polks delivered yesterday, initial impressions are pretty good. The speakers have a neutral tone and continuous 3 hours of listening every thing from classical, hindi (taal), chemical brothers, rush and hard rock didn't cause any listening fatigue. The sub fires nicely, the speakers still need to break in and they have some base. With the sub, they sound much better. If you guys are considering a complete 5.1 towers set under 60K, you should also audition the TSx series. My dealer had 4 sets delivered yesterday and was a busy man.

Had a old TV stand which came in handy to setup the AVR and BD player.

Also hooked up the posters, have not hooked the surrounds still, they are sitting on the towers carton for now.

Need to buy blinds/ curtains to cover the only window now. You can see that on the second poster.

Prem,

I am the one of the oldest follower of this thread. Hope you have noticed that. I traveled the entire build and very much overjoyed to see finished pictures above. I called few of my colleagues to my desk today, to show the kind of passion we (FMs) have for Audios and Videos.

Very well executed and it is an excellent outcome. Enjoy the show. Congratulations!

Hi Koushik,

Thank you and much appreciated, you were the first one to comment whenever I put up something or had an issue. i felt real happy to read your comment.

Next time in Bangalore, don't look for a place, my HT cum guest room is yours...

Ohh .. Following a thread and commenting on time saved me some serious Hotel bill ;)
Ha ha ha ... just kidding.
Thanks for your invitation. I will definitely visit you if I travel to Bangalore. In the profession of IT, which is quite probable.

Very well done :clapping: Prem !

What is the price for individual components ? (Towers+Center+Surrounds+Sub)

Please share some close ups of the speakers .... didn't find many pictures of those speakers on this forum, as they are newly released.

PSW 110. I will let some other FMs write about the review on speakers. Our FMs realactivex & arnprasad have expressed willingness to see the setup. I will let them comment. I am not really good at the technicalities, in plain layman's terms, the sound is good and it has a tight base. No distortion and I couldn't go beyond 70db in my Denon. This tsx series sounds a little more musical than the earlier tsi series to my untrained ears.

They are well made and the curved cabinet looks good. The earlier tsi had a piano black top which was a better looker. So they saved on that cost and made the cabinet, drivers etc. bigger.

The end result is superb Prem. Like me, i'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in your HT. Let me know when you travel to Mysore so you can visit my place and we can compare notes.
I'll continue to push you to do some absorption starting with a rug between you and the speakers.
Good job - enjoy.

Sure sash, I will surely take your words about acoustics. I am waiting to add my fabric Sofa cum bed and hear the changes. A little more work is left, so I am waiting for that to get over.

I am a frequent Mysore visitor (but hate the 48 humps I have to encounter to reach there, yes, I counted them once). Would love to see/ hear your good setup. Next time, when you are in Bangalore, around old airport road, send me a message.

The TSx 110B bookshelves I got as surrounds spoils the aesthetics of the wall as it protrudes out by around 13 inches. I am planning to exchange it for OWM3.

I know I got a better deal with the TSx 110B but I am not happy looking at them, what should I do?

Which one of them sounds good ? TSx 110B or OWM3.
If the answer is TSx 110B, then please stick to it.

You are building is a dedicated room for HT :yahoo:(I know that you will use it as guest room as well :)), so there is no point to replacing the better sounding bookshelves with satellites. If it was a living room cum HT, then I would have agreed that it will be an obstruction.

If OWN3 sounds better then go ahead and swap them.

Else shell out some more money and get dipoles as they will have a different look than book shelves which are bulk and look like a cuboid.

Nice progress. I think you might need to toe-in your speakers esp. since they are too close to the side walls. Was there any restriction in the making the room wider than the screen?

Any acoustic treatment was done for the walls? I would have also preferred thick carpet than mica sheet flooring. They all help tremendously in improving the SQ.

KK, the bookshelves do sound better and they are better built too, but they come to play only at times. During normal music only the front towers and sub are being used. I need to have a comparison.

Also need to see how multi channel stereo sounds, how do I set that up in the AVR?

Raghu, my AVR is Denon 1713.

Santy, I had to construct exactly on top of the wall below, so there was a 10 feet restriction for the width of the room. Carpet would have been a maintenance nightmare especially because of the wet condition we have in Bangalore almost through out the year coupled with slush filled roads due to ever going construction activity.

Yet to do any acoustic treatment, I will analyze after I get the seating and then work upon that.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
