Time to plan for the 3rd meet?

Date: May 1st sat or 2nd Sat?

Agenda:
Needs to be crisp with concentrated time. Will like to focus on few equipments but with detailed reviews. I am thinking one audio and one video cat. For example, tube amps vs solid state amps and WDTV vs XT vs Play On vs .... This will help us focus and plan better.

After this session, we can have demos of other equipments as needed which will let us experience (not detailed review) of other equipments.

Go on and add the views :)

May 2nd fits me perfect, Count me in.

Can't make on May 8th as I've something else planned.

Some more thoughts Ram - I remember last time there were too many equipments with the limited amount of time, So can we limit the amount of equipments this time. May be switch between Video & Audio for each meet?

Stop grumbling guys. Suri, you are always welcome. You can stay with me, if needed. I have a spare bedroom, and I can offer you some nice South Indian food. I can also raise your spirits in the evening if you promise not to drive after that.

Cheers

I can also raise your spirits"

Venkat Sir,

I like this part very much! Okay, regarding meet, I suggest that emphasis is given to video this time. As of now, we have all kind of sources for video available, rips, DVDs, HD DVD, blu-rays and we have BD players, media players, bla blah.

Also, product-wise, let us review a product under a particular category and declare that a "winner and highly recommended product by Hifivision/Chennai" or something like that.

I am in if it is going to be on a Sunday.
Cheers!

Should we start again with Sundays, then?

I have no interest in the video side of stuff at all --- but if the venue is easy for me will certainly show my face to say hello :)

Goodluck for your meet chennai guys... This time i will miss the meet, since all the 3 days mentioned i have pre-planned trips ouside chennai.

Gentlemen :

Here's some suggestions when you review amps. Unless its done in a controlled fashion, there's NO POINT in such an exercise.

ANALOG AMPLIFICATION REVIEW (Total Time = 120 min)

1. Do TWO Solid-state amps and ONE Tube amp

2. Get hold of 1kHz 0 dBFS Test-tone on CD | CD-R for Level matching purpose

3. Get a SPL Meter with C-weighing for setting accurate Levels (very important in a Test as the Test amp that's even 1dB louder will sound better)

4. You may also get a DMM (Digital Multi meter) with mV in AC so that as in (3) to ascertain correct Level matching, the DMM can/should be used on the binding posts of the amp under Test or at the speaker's binding posts to match "Test sample Level consistency' using 0 dBFS 1kHz signal

5. Pre-select 4 Tracks of not more than 4-5 min each, totaling to Max 20 min

6. Distribute photocopies of "Reviewing Sheets" (can supply you a Template) to all attendees for Individual notes during listening Tests

7. Dedicate not more than max 25 min per amplifier, 5 min to change over to the next Test piece - hence 30 min per amplifier

8. Select speakers such that it should be compatible with ALL 3 amps (be it bookshelves or Floor-standers)

9. After the 90 min review session, dedicate the next 15-20 min for sum-up and conclusions

10. By 2 hrs, i.e. 120 min, you should hold Group Results with the Master of Ceremonies! :)

regards!
Thats the way to go. Looking forward to the meet. Through the forum I mean :)

I am in...!! felt bad havin missed the 2nd one and i pray i dont get any last min work. Both days mentioned should be ok to me....and ram , thanks for the initiative !! I would love if u guys can include a session on DAC s too.:)

Guys: Like I said, lets focus on one Audio cat and one Video cat. Lets concentrate our meets. So my broader agenda:

Audio: Tube vs Solid State - 2 hrs
Video: Media Player Shootout - 2 hrs
Accessories: IC/Speaker wire shootout? - 1 hr

DEMOs: Any equipment thats of interest - 1 hr

Thats around 6 hrs which makes it a one day event.

Venkat: Is it possible to use the same venue?

@all: Pls list equipments you can bring. I will get WDTV and WDTV Live. ICs Belden and speaker wire Belden UE5000
