Confused between LG 42LA 6910 & Sony 42W 800

Hi Shrey,
I'm also in the same situation: Sony 42w800 or LG 42la6910
After a long demo of both TV's I almost fell for LG with all it's glittering features compared to Sony, but then 2D quality what matters the most for me. Below are my observations:

LG:
Good:
1.Awesome 3d effects (Played Avengers final scene).
2.2D to 3D was stunning too(Transformers 3 intro scene).
3.USB recording.

Bad:
PQ is good BUT:
Cricket was put on while I was demoing.
1. I noticed there was lot(noticeable) of blur(ghosting) effect while the camera was moving along the ground & while the players were chasing around.
2. The colors looked as if they were peeling out of their regions.

Sony:
Good:
1. Amazing PQ (No blur or color peeling as in LG set).
2. 3D is excellent (still felt LG was better).

Bad:
1. 2D to 3D was kind of bad.

My primary consideration has been Sony, but after looking at LG set in the store I almost changed my decision....but then, I caught ghosting effect pretty easily. That is no-go for me. Well all the above is in my own personal opinion.

Were you able to find that kind of blur effect while you were demoing the LG set? Let me know your opinions on this.

Yes, LG are known to have poor motion. Mainly because they sell these so called "high end" TVs with 50hz panels and not 100/200hz panels like others

Last year only LG LM7600 and up used 100hz, all the lower models used 50hz with 400 MCI.

On 3D I hope you are playing the same video on both Sony & LG. If no, pls do so to have a fair comparison.

About the blurr on LG, I would suggest you may have to play with the true motion option a bit. Check if it was on and if on what was the setting , was it low, medium , high or off ? 1st I would suggest turning it off, then check the scene having horizontal and vertical pan, the one you are mentioning above and if the effect persist, then try turning it low, medium, high , and check if the motion blur disappears. I have 47LM6200 2012 LG set and I normally keep the setting off, even while seeing the cricket match. But you check it urself on this 2013 model.

About the picture quality, I would suggest you should go with the experts recommended calibration setting available on the net for both these sets and put these settings in the showroom and then compare the sets.
Company setting of different brands are different and my personal experience is Sony is calibrated well at default factory settings , but LG is not.
But again it wont be suprized that Sony PQ would be better than LG. It is Sony afterall :)

Thanks avmaxfan & sandesh.
Pretty strange though, according to CNet Asia review, LG 6900 series has 100HZ and as far as I know Sony w800 has 120HZ, which is not much of a difference.

Sandesh,
I indeed used same samples for demoing both the sets.
It seems like there is some tuning needed in LG set to achieve decent PQ without blur effect.

Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for info buddy.. I didn't watch cricket though but i haven't noticed any blur.
Colors were decent..

If you are considering 3D just keep in mind that you always wont be playing Blu-ray 3D discs, its always handy to have 2D to 3D conversion. LG has good 2D to 3D depth (SONY FAILS IN 2D TO 3D CONVERSION)

I visited almost 5 shops to demo same models.. all shops have different PQ setting for LG. In some stores PQ looks excellent.. so i recommend you to visit more stores.

LG model have some good reviews, check out following link. After reading that i almost decided to go for LG

Hi Folks,

I recently went to few showrooms and had birdview of all LED tvs in 40 -42 inches display sizes, and Sony w2800 stood differentiating and eye-catching amidst all.. Wowwwww... What a make from Sony.. Display is simply awesome.. TV which I loved watching after HX850 is w2800...I can tell u, no model can beat this one in 42 inches display.. !!!!

I bet you that with 400 Hz motion flow u will be having a gr8 gamin experience. Bass reflex speaker is really a good addon. Though 2d to 3d conversion is poor, it doesn't make big difference since this kinda viewing will be meager..

Guys..........

And my suggestions for LED tvs in 40-42 '' display are as follows.

1. SOny HX 850
2. Sony W800
3. Panasonic ST50
4. Samsung F6800

Guys..........

You are absolutely right in your assessment. W800 is the one that stands out of the 2013 led pack.
I was very very impressed with this set.

Is 2D to 3D conversion necessary? To me it is just a gimmick and won't come close to real 3D. I would look for PQ mainly.

You may be right, but to me i prefer to watch most of the movies in 3D..
There is not much 3D content available, only way to watch 3D is to buy Blu-Ray Player and get 3D disc's.. hmm its painful. so i guess it matters.

If 3D is of paramount importance, go with LG because of the passive 3D. If PQ is more important, go with Sony. I belong to the later category.

Guys as most of you are voting for SONY its worth talking a look again.
I will demo it 2morrow again.. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Has anyone seen LG model?

I went to reliance digital today(at another location)...unfortunately they didn't had LG for the demo.

Anyways I was always preferring Sony from the beginning. So, finally I have bought Sony KDL-42W800. Getting it delivered tomorrow and installation not possible until I'm free from my office. Can't wait for it to be setup.

Can anyone please suggest me which DTH service provides better?
Airtel Digital TV sales person was in the store at the time, after checking for all the channels I require the package totals at 7000/Year(Provided with 15 HD Channels).

I'm completely noob when it comes to DTH services. Please please suggest me some more DTH services.

Thanks.

I think u should buy videcon d2h it comes with nat geo 3d channel , i got both dishtv and videcon hd connections i prefer videcon as it has espn and star cricket in hd , videcon has 22 hd channels
