D550/VT20/ST30/LED - Confused on which one to buy ?(<80k)

sorry i missed this post.. :(

VT20 Vs ST30 , what does VT20 miss ? And main drawbacks of VT20 ?

I will surely PM reds4ever.

VT20 got "Reference" award from hdtvtest website , highest possible award.

I just little worried on the year aspect (2010). already now we are at end of 2011 . dont take me wrong , its just a feel we all have .. to have latest..

Do not worry about old and new tech. 2010 in not far behind. VT20 is one of the best models to consider for superb pq and other features too:yahoo:At this price nothing comes close to vt20. 50 inches, award winning model, superb pq etc etc. Whatmore can you ask now. Blasto has even given settings to tweak your plasma to a led kind of display:clapping:. Now you can convert plasma into a led too but you cannot convert led into a plasma, Can you???
And if you want latest tech get a good media player which can play any type of content. Buy a tv only for its picture quality and to an extent reliability( believe me VT20 is strong as an IRON MAN)..:D
Just consider this Sony nx720 which is 46 inches is 1.2 lac. and 46hx925 is 1.5lac. which has decent pq. dont even consider ex720 against vt20. Now 50vt20 at 75k. Now add 12k for a good bluray player which has 2d to 3d conversion, so total cost is 87k.. which is even lesser than the price of st30:cool:... So you have the best tv with a media player attached too:).. I even managed to get onkyo 3400 htib with the extra budget that i saved against the difference... So i have complete home theatre set up at a superb budget:clapping:

Upscaling is one part. I have wdtv which does upscaling for SD movies.
Post processing is another part.

Matter of fact is with WDTV, the difference is minimal still in favour of samsung.
For DTH SD (which is the worst SD source you can get), the difference is much more.
Garbage in - garbage out for VT20.

Starting from 720p, VT20 is a (much) different class.

I own a crappy LCD panel now (720p) and cable here in my area are worse than DTH SD. it has become a routine for us.

how much difference i might see on SD content would be minimal i think.

tomorrow I will visit panasonic showroom and ask for details , and pricing.

Does anyone know the lowest VT20 50" is being sold at present ? would be helpful while bargaining... :ohyeah:

what freebies do i get ? :licklips:

Thanks Devh... :)

I own a PS3 and i am not particular about USB drive compatibility to play movies.. I almost play all movies via PS3 which imo has better PQ output.

I own Onkyo 3200 , got with the help of hifivision users 2 years or so before. I had to opt for that model due to budget constraint. Planning to update part by part 4-5 months later. member here told to go for 2.1 setup first and add speakers to make it 5.1 as budget flows in. I went against thier advice. mainly i was desperate to have a 5.1 .

I did compare both ST30 Vs VT20 and D550 and found that Vt20 gives only peak brigthness at 51 cd/m2 while D550 gives at 155 cd/m2 and ST30 @ 100 cd/m2

RGB comparison and motion rate also favors D550

here is where i got the info

Samsung PN51D550 3D Plasma HDTV Review - TelevisionInfo.com

Vs Panasonic TC-P50VT20 - Panasonic TC-P50ST30 Plasma 3D HDTV Review

kind of indirect comparison i did with Vt20 and D550

thanks to Madhav for pointing out.

Ok so get the d550 then. Dont think much. welcome to d550 owners thread:ohyeah:

Dont take me wrong..I am just comparing and asking for valuable inputs which i feel could have impact on choosing..

so since your own VT20 , while viewing 3D , how much brightness do you get ? I heard BLASTO`s setting resulted in LED like brightness , have you tried it ? Inputs on this could be helpful for me and also others who are having confusion in choosing.

In the end you have to go to a showroom and see both and decide for yourself. Thats what is trumps everything else. If you are in bangalore just go to Devi International and see both the tv's. They have demo of all brands tv's and they also show 3D demo. So just decide for yourself :) Best of luck

Yes , I did demo D550 in banglore , tomorrow or day after tomorrow I will visit panasonic to demo VT20 and decide..

Anyway guys , Thanks for all the inputs thus far. Really thankful for all the replies..

It is not LED like brightness. It is LED like white. I mean pure white with a tinge of blue.

If you want LED like brightness, you should buy a LED.

One more thing, Iam the last person you should ask about 3D as I cannot watch 3D for more than 15 mins. And yes ST30 has improved brightness to tackle 3D glass tint.

For 2D. It is bright. You wont use peak brightness atall. My samsung B450 has much more peak brightness than either of VT20 or ST30 but it does not come in handy while viewing actual content in room with normal lighting. I have never kept the contrast at 100. Actually not more than 70 in the panasonic but in the samsung it was 90.

Atleast LED is not going to future proof unless its a true LED. I hope you know that the current TV's sold as LED's are not true LED's. Its more of LED LCD's. I have hopes that Plasma would survive another three years or at least till AMOLED's are available in bigger size.

thanks BLASTO.

Is it 3D bad in VT20 or you dont genreally like 3D .

Also i cant find any link of VT20 on panasonic website , can you help me on that. I just want to read full specs.

BLASTO , one last thing , I think you havent yet answered to this , Can post the Cons of VT20 ?

The way LEDs are racing, it looks like they will meet the plasmas in black level and motion performance in COMPARABLE price range in 2013 or 2014. Even now if you are able to spend 1.5 to 2 times for the same size, you get as much performance in dark and better performance in bright light.

Ya , But when i started to look for replacement of my 3 yr old LCD , I didnt know and was confused with LED , LCD and some said "true LED" and then after some research found what they actually are..

but after demoing the LED`s (sammy series) , I am not sure i will go with them. too artifical colors . only thing is brightness , but i doubt whether i would really use such brightness in day to day viewing.

Believe me blasto, to the settings you gave, if you increase contrast and sharpness, i have got led like picture which was not comfortable to eyes.. And definitely peak brightness which leds achieve is not really needed

I develop nausia when viewing 3D content. :D

Cons compared to what? There is nothing like absolute con.

Lol.. :) I believe you. I did the settings. :)
Why did you increase contrast and brightness?? LED like picture is not good. :ohyeah:
It was the settings I posted for SD to get rid of green/yellow cast in face and appear acceptable. It makes the overall picture to pop out like LEDs though in HD.

A more easier way I have found which brings the settings close to the settings I posted.

1) Go to photo mode
2) Set the picture to "cool"
3) change the gamma to S-curve
4) Brightness and contrast to same as in the post.

Thats all.

No way i am watching it with increased contrast and brightness. Only increased it to check out how far the picture can be tweaked. As to gamma, i have read in forums that 2.2 to 2.4 is perfect for vt20 in controlled environment they say. sorry to move from the thread topic thogh

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
