DENON Owners thread

Hi..Just got an old Denon receiver with HDMI. Not sure about the model # as its in Hyd. Needs some repair. Would appreciate if I can get reputed Denon Receiver repair centers in Hyderabad.

many thanks in advance!

My ole Denon AVR 3803 bought in Feb 2004 ran into a problem. Was on RED LIGHT STANDBY. Tried resetting everything, removing all connections etc and still no go.

Then on the advice of a friend, decided to dismantle the entire AVR (which is not a joke by the way) and to clean all PCBs with exception of pots and contacts with Iso Propyl alcohol entirely.

Took me a good 2 hours to open it as I was opening it for the first time and it is difficult to get your way around despite You tube Videos.

I had arranged the screws and panels in a orderly fashion so that it would be easy for me to put back. Wish I had taken pictures but I was in the mood of the clean up.

Anyway long story short, after everything put everything back and let the amp sit for about 15 days to make sure that all contacts are dry and there is no chances of short circuit.

Then one fine morning, when I was about to go to office, decided to turn it on. Tried and IT WORKED NORMALLY. NO RED LIGHT STANDBY ETC.

I was ecstatic and overjoyed. Because I love keeping things original and once serviced the product loses its charm to me,

Thought I would share this little story in this thread for other AVR owners.

Thanks guys for all your likes. @ vishalrao, arnprasad, Narayana and one more gentleman.

My MOST IMPORTANT TAKE from all this is this.

When ever one buys an AVR, especially HDMI enabled ones is that make sure that it has a PRE IN, not PRE OUT. This way at least when the HDMI board fries, hopefully one can still use the EXT IN. on the AVR instead of going for costly repairs of HDMI board replacements and what not. But one must also make sure that one has an external decoder built in players like blu Ray andriod players with analogue outs etc. That is what has saved me here.

I still don't trust any AVR which has an HDMI port on it, for it is the most flimsy, whimsical, useless, trouble giving port in the world despite its so called convenience etc. What is the use of an HDMI when the damn thing does not work as it should ? Analgoue never go kaput generally. Just ranting guys. :)

what do you guys think?

Got this Denon AVR 1713. Due to some current spike the power board inside is fried and the receiver does not turn on. Showed it to a local small shop in Hyderabad and the guy quoted me 4k INR for replacing the power unit. Except the problem with that is he isn't guaranteeing that everything will work post the repair, since he can't say anything until it turns on.

I need some inputs on whether or not to go ahead with the repair with this guy, or to take it to some authorised Denon service centre. If the later one, would really appreciate if someone could point me towards an authorised Denon service store in Hyderabad (anywhere in Hyd is okay).

Thanks in advance!

Logically speaking it is correct. Till the primary and secondary power supply is turned on and voltages supplied to the rest of the unit, one never knows what has gone kaput.

It would be better to take it to an AVR technician who can diagnose the problem from PSU till end and not do a half baked job like a local tech. This local tech is only fixing the power supply and not the rest. However, be advised that it might cost you a bomb to get it repaired in the authorized service centre. A better bet would a specialised reputed AVR Tech in Hyderabad. Check YT Videos for such persons in Hyderabad for this.

Thanks for responding! Spoke to few techs here, everyone says to leave the AVR with them for few days. Also spoke to the first guy, he agreed to test the AVR with a spare power board and check if everything else is working before actually fixing it. Will update on how it goes.

I have a question for FM's who have used DENON AVR's in their HT.

My setup is 5.1.4

AVR denon X3700h

Polk Reserve R200 L/R
Polk Reserve R400 Center
Polk Reserve R900 Front top Atmos
Polk Audio V6 Slim Middle atmos ceiling
Def tech 9040 Bipolar surrounds

My MLP is 8 feet from the front speakers

I usually listen at -10db ( occasionally -5 db )

Now the Question is that, "Is the DENON X3700h properly driving my setup or should I get a separate 3 or 5 channel power amp to get optimum performance from my speakers ?"

If it's diagnosed correctly and done professionally, there is nothing to worry about too me.
Spirovious you are probably correct. But my bitter experience here in Kerala tells me that once a Tech opens a electronic product there is always some screw missing inside, may be the boards are not put back correctly in terms of alignment, some covering or shielding is missing etc. I have always been disappointed by the careless re-assembly by most techs. They assume no one will check their work. :) I would gladly re-assemble my product once their service is done. :)

Oh
That's why we need pro :)

Update: Got the power board replaced (checked that everything is working before making the payment). Looks like most of the features are working. I do have few queries if anyone can help me:
1. I don't have a remote for this AVR. I set it up using the Denon App but that is very buggy and is a hit or miss at best. Please point me to any site/place (Hyd) that might sell a replacement remote
2. I'm using ARC from my TV for audio passthrough (Audio source is PC, PC>TV>AVR), so it's set to TV Audio mode, which only has 2 audio options (Dolby PL II Music and DTS Music). I'm not sure if this is because I didn't connect it PC>AVR>TV or if there are some options on the physical remote (the manual says there are).
3. Subwoofer out was initially not working, played around a bit in the options and got it to work, however the lows and bass is pretty low compared to an old Yamaha AVR I have (the sub is from Yamaha which came with the AVR)

Overall it works pretty well and I can hear the difference from RCA input in the Yamaha vs HDMI in this!

Edit: Reading the documentation from Denon website looks like both Dolby Digital PLII Music and DTS-Neo:6 Music both only take 2-channel source and output a virtual 5.1. Again w.r.t point 2, is there any way I can get pure 5.1 on this?

Thanks in advance!

HI Friends please suggest one of my friend wants to purchase denon AVR S760H 7.2 which store or site is best and suggest best supported speakers for above receiver

I am confused between the below Denon models for my first 5.1.2 HT.

- X1700H - 73k
- X3700H - 125k

X3700H will give me MultiEQ XT32 and more channels to either bi-amp the front speakers, or for a second zone in-ceiling speakers.

Is spending 52k (70%) more worth it for these two benefits?

Not only two, but more than that
Having owned x3700 and used x1600 I would definitely put my money on x3700 everyday.

More channels!
More Power!
pre-outs! most important for HT if you plan to use more than 5 channels adding power amps open up the speakers more
Audyseey XT32 is far better than the one you get on entry level, do use the APP and not from the AVR itself.
IMAX enhanced, and trust me I loved watching movies in IMAX enhanced
