Fans of Television Series

Switched at Birth - Season 3 ......finally finished Switched at Birth till the latest episode which is Season 3 EP-11. I seriously enjoued this TV series immensely, I am going to miss every character. They actually became a part of my everyday life ...... Unfortunately have to wait for atleast next season to complete before it will come on Netflix. Its gonna take time for sure.

Well on to something else ....... :) ... I was about to start Orange is the new black when I came across this TV series called The Killing on netflix and I am intrigued by it. Seems really interesting ........

Can any one suggest what to start The Killing or OINB, who has seen, completed both ...

I'd recommend watching the Pilot and a few episodes to decide for yourself. You will either like it or think not much of it.

Personally I love it. The performances are good, the story holds together and the genre is something I personally love.

I've not see the original Danish version but from what I've read this remake actually does manage to hold its own against the original so that's a good thing.

Mireille Enos is the best thing about it... she's amazing and a perfect fit for a series that speaks dark, dreary, broody and other similar adjectives. Reminds me of the mood of the Brad Pitt movie Se7en, which was dark, wet, rainy, etc. but an excellent movie nevertheless.

PS - I think you'll like it... so I'd highly recommend giving a few episodes the trial run.

Have not seen Orange is the new black... so cannot comment on that.

If you remember I mentioned The Killing sometime back on the thread and you did say it was in your library, now you can start watching it. I found it gripping, slow and evolving plot which will intrigue you. It is a political murder mystery which uses the setting of the story to brilliant effect. Here is my post regarding it:

I have no idea about Orange is the new black, but I highly recommend The Killing.

Needless to say stay with it for the first few episodes, things will pick up thereon, I have a feeling you will like the Holder character.

The Killing ..... So finally started off with the killing, completed first 3 episodes, and seriously I am impressed, yes its slow paced and you get that impression in the first episode itself, but it DOES NOT at no point becomes bore or seems dragging. It has a very serious tone, and a very grim approach with only Holder character bringing some light moments, ....... but I like murder mysteries with serious subject...... Will continue lets see..

@shibashis, I believe you also have some kind of affinity towards dark murder mysteries. May I suggest a TV series called BroadChurch ......... The environment or the cinematography is not as dark as The killing but rest is same, a murder mystery, running across the entire season, 2 detectives, one recently shifted and grieving family. Very entertaining. There is only one season for now with 8 episodes and I completed the entire 8 episodes in one go .. :D ... Give it a try...

PS :: BTW its a British TV series, Subtitles are advisable ... :)

Sam your recommendations come highly recommended. :)
So BroadChurch has made it to my list, only problem is this list is an ever growing one and since marriage....shh....she must not hear about this! lol
Seriously though, I will start BroadChurch sooner rather than later.

Game of Thrones (TV Series 2011 ) - IMDb - Finally started with it... wife was raving all about it and I had a 2 day marathon session to complete season 1.

My thoughts - One of TVs best... despite the big budget, the stars, multiple story arcs, etc. GOT is one cohesive package that fits in nicely together. Individual story lines appear to blur things, but actually they tie in and weave together about politics, bickering, and backstabbing to win the throne.

Highly recommended... starting season 2 today... probably will be a marathon session till I'm done with all of it.

Yes my expectations with GOT were sky rocketing, but, they were not met as expected and then I lost complete interest right after the way first season ended ..... bad for me I guess ....... The killing going good though.

@sam9s - When you have the time, do watch the rest of the seasons of GoT. I've been reading the books and the way the plot develops is quite intriguing. There are too many little stories and characters woven into a giant plot. You'd enjoy it as new characters are developed and layers are added to the original ones. The twists are quite unexpected and the directors have taken the liberty of mildly modifying the plot to suit TV audiences. GoT definitely is a top watch for me and is highly recommended even if you have read the books.

Finally finished Fargo S01. And Boy it was very good. Great acting by Martin Freeman and Billy bob Thornton. Just got hooked onto it right from the first episode. Highly recommend it..

Thanks,
Sandeep.

I kept avoiding GOT for as long as I could. Don't ask me why...

But @sam9s once I succumbed, let me just say, it is extremely enthralling... gory yes but I soon realised what the rage was about....

Do watch it again from the beginning.

any reviews for true detective

Must watch brother... must watch indeed.

Superb acting (yes even Matthew McConaughey can act), excellent plot, story arc and a nice whodunit that will keep you guessing till the very end.

Highly recommended and its a showcase of how good Hollywood can get when it gets to TV.

PS - Another serial I'd highly recommend for the Hollywood element is House of Cards (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb. Sheer brilliance by Kevin Spacey and everyone else.

Watching the sixth season of The Mentalist (TV Series 2008 ) - IMDb

The plot is straightforward but the intrigue and the hype around the main villain 'Red John' makes it really interesting. Simon Baker as the hero is really good and while the side cases are decent, the main plot has kept me engaged for quite long.

Next on True Detective (plan to see it as a marathon :))

Mentalist is my favorite too, seems the character is a perfect fit for Simon's personality. Heard that Season 7 will also be there although Season 6 ended at a logical conclusion.

Same here. Caught the last few episodes of Season 4 broadcast after avoiding it for a while, and have started watching from the beginning. I like that its just 10 episodes per season, and the pace of story line is quite fast.

thanks @musicbee
