Re: European TV Series?

Any Nordic/Scandinavian/British thriller series?

Want some change from American series. Please advise.

Bron/Broen (TV Series 2011 ) - IMDb: One of my current favourites and the original of "The Bridge" (US) and "The Tunnel" (UK)

Forbrydelsen (TV Series 20072012) - IMDb: The Original Killing

If you have already watched the American versions, then I am not sure how much you will enjoy the originals. I have not watched the US (or UK) versions of either series.

Though not a murder / mystery, Borgen (TV Series 2010 ) - IMDb is a very good political series (kind of like "West Wing" going by comments, but I haven't watched West Wing, so I have no comments to offer).

Thank You!

Have watched most of them. I should have qualified as 'recent' series.

+1. Done n Dusted.

I, for some reason prefer the originals from Europe to the American versions.

Are there any new series?

How are these new series, 'Trapped' and 'Deutschland'?

Probably, you should watch and tell us ;)

I am bored with watching seasons of TV series year after year, which is why I quit a lot of series, especially this year. I am now more interested in already finished series, Mini-Series or British/European series (because their seasons happen 2/3 years apart). But, I have not researched or watched many Nordic series as others. I have only watched the first season of 'Wallander' apart from those mentioned in my post. I didn't press ahead because I read that the second season wasn't that great. Any other recommendations?

I am currently on animation/anime binge. So, nothing much to post / share here.

You will find many with the same opinion. At least I second you mate.
It would have been better they finish a Series rather than making us wait a full year.

Exactly, once you take a break from a series and start after an year, the interest will be lost and you may not enjoy in the same way how you have done a year back.

Daredevil - Season 2 .. Mind blowing ..... for me I enjoyed it more then se01. I mean not that se01 was bad or weak, but se02 took it to another level .... the plot expanded exponentially, new characters from MCU were introduced, noticeably The Punisher that just rocked the second season. I mean so much so that without Punisher's presence there was a sense of something missing. Daredevil's past was explored and his connection to the "Hand" was explained, all and all very satisfying series. Action was again top notch, the jail ally scene with punisher was just mind blowing, gave me goose bumps ...... Very much looking forward to SE03. ...its a solid 8/10 for Daredevil after season 2

After much hesitation, started with The Blacklist S1. Interesting and faster plot , am getting addicted. Raymond Reddington really rocks... :)

You shouldn't really hesitate when it comes to James Spader. He is one of the finest actors on television today, I have been following him since Stargate and Crash from the 90s and later on The Practice/Boston Legal.

I agree the serial itself is okay, and if it were not for him I'd probably not watch it, however, watching James Spader act is worth the time investment.

James Spader was the only reason I managed to stretch the blacklist beyond 5 episodes, but the TV series was poor and very cliched, couldn't continue after 4-5 eps.

If you like him so much, you might want to watch The Pentagon Papers.

The Expanse - Season 1 .... Boy oh boy, this was one hell of a surprise package, I did not know anything about the show, had not read any reviews, and I dont remember anyone on this thread also recommending this TV series. I just started coz by brother said its good and highly recommended it, and I trust him on this front. Boy oh boy I was heading for a rocking surprise, this show just excelled from all corners, specially for sci-fi fans.
This is ultra realistic in all sense. The best part which also might be the only negative for "some" viewers is that too much too much information is thrown on the screen in first 2-3 episodes with not even a single one single explanation to what is going on. Which is good if you ask me, the spoon feed treatment takes out the realistic approach for a series. The story/plot starts to make sense only after 3 episodes, but my strong recommendation, dont loose it, keep watching, its going to be worth. As I said the show is ultra realistic, with performance, tech aspect, the CGI, the space environment everything just ultra top notch with no absolutely no compromise in any department. Its a cool 8.5/10 for this one, based on season 1. Looking forward to SE02.

The Night Of - SE01 - 2 Episodes .. Just finished 2 episodes of the night of ... To begin with the quality of this show is exponentially, exuberantly high. I think this will be my first series on crime drama, that is in so much detail, so much realism, you are engrossed like from top to bottom .. :). Ultra realistic, much thought is given to even minute details. No plot holes as far as I can think off. The acting is utmost believable and real. Dialogues, are just so down with ground reality, its just amazing. The entire feel just sucks you in the story line ......

Just 2 episodes and about to start the third, but its a rare 9/10 for this one, up until now.

.. But .. ;)

I am waiting for you to finish "The Night Of". While it is 'realistic', 'The Wire' is still the benchmark to beat (and still my favourite series). It is not a crime drama, but a visual novel, so it won't be as easy to sit through like 'The Night Of'.

The Night of - Season 1 .. Ok so finally finished the night of, well certainly I have my apprehensions of how the writers wanted to present the show in the later episodes, coz either they were sloppy or they wanted to show some really poor detective work (amidst other flawed judicial system).

For me, the premise was too circumstantial, plus again too much sloppy work from the investigative team, Again .....no sure if that was sloppy writing, or they wanted to show poor incentive for the people involved. None the less it still was pretty entertaining and just loved the ending, it was not happy neither was it totally downhill. It was satisfying, yet dark and with bleak future, at least for the protagonist, if not the lawyer.

performance wise I just loved John Turturro, the way he carried the role ...... the rating is down to 8.0/10 but still crosses the 8 point scale which isnt still bad

Looks like you did not like The Expanse much, ... :) For me it turned out to be the best scify show after the great Firefly... ..atleast based on season 1

Will definitely try the wire ....:)

Sam, I'd suggest you watch it as soon as possible, and not read up too much about it. The show has a very unique way of telling its story, and it will likely be more fun to enjoy it and discover its message and story for yourself.

I was very actively discussing it on Reddit from the first episode, and believe me, for the first time in my memory, nearly all of its secrets were mostly known before the fifth episode. So the last 3 or 4 episodes were far less mind blowing than they should have been for me. Watching those were like, "yep, we knew it all along, you sneaky writer, but we love you for it".
