Full brightness reduce life?

Will keeping my HX750's backlight to full brightness ie +5 will reduce the life of its leds and t.v as a whole...Any suggested picture settings?

The chances of bad power conditions in India and other things will reduce a tv's life far before it's backlight gives out. Especially if it's LED as led's last a long time and don't yellow gradually. Their enemy is heat. So if your room gets very hot in summers, you can consider not using the TV for long hours.
 
Backlight at 5/6/7 is no problem. Even MAX won't do much harm. Don't worry.

But better to keep the backlight at 4/5 or lower for better PQ (especially blacks)
 
Well for LED emitters in general heat kills them
You can drive them at full backlight provided the manufacturer has good way of dissipating the heat produced by the emitters.

But why do you want to watch a tv at full backlight settings,personally i just can't stand such brightness.For the most part the light sensor of the tv does a pretty good job at deciding the backlight setting.

YES it does.
LEDs have a "life" which is defined as duration after which 50% of LEDs will offer less than 50% of original designed brightness (and hence deemed as useless and need a replacement).

I have dealt with industrial grade LED displays (dealing with brands like Planar, Barco, Delta, Eyevis).
The story is similar everywhere:
At full brightness the "life" = 50000 hours.
At eco mode, "life" = 100000 hours.

I am sure the commercial consumer grade LED displays will employ cheaper LEDs, which may have even lesser "life".


Incidentally, lower brightness also saves power (at the cost of luminance).

Yea i'l be keeping it at 5 on my HX 750..Will be posting the picture settings i found on a website for my tv..Let me know what you all think about it?

Look up for the AVCHD calibration disk (google the terms). Download the DVD ISO image and create/burn a DVD. Use the DVD to calibrate.

Do not worry too much about brightness/contrast/backlight settings. Worry about getting maximum out of the TV. :)
 
Actually i will be getting my tv this week and don't know what is max for it, i'l be keeping it at 5 hope it won't be a problem

You get a range of values from MIN - then 1 - 2 - 3- 4 -5 - 6- 7- 8- -9-10 - MAX

So in total 12 values. :)
 
THE FIRST SET OF SETTINGS I CAME ACROSS:

First off, go to CNN and if you can pause the picture during a scene when one of the anchors is speaking, that will help you see the results.
CNN's HD is among the best "live HD" programming. Ok here we go:
1. Go to menu and access Preferences, select scence setting and change it to "Cinema1 or 2" doesn't matter. (Don't freak out, it gets dark at first)
2. Backlight: max
2. Picture : max
3. Brightness: 50
4. Color: 60
5. Hue: 0
6. Color Temp: Cool
7. Sharpness: 82
8. Noise: off Mpeg: off Dot: off
9. Motion: Smooth
10. Cine: Auto1
ADVANCED MENU:
1. Black Corrector: High
2. Advanced Contrast: off
3. Gamma: +1
4. Auto Light: off
5.Clear white: High
6. Live color: off or low (depending on your taste)
7. White Balance: (adjust these only) Green gain -1 Red bia's +1 Green bia's -2 Blue bia's +1
8. Detail:high Edge: high
 
My recommended settings (changes highlighted in bold)

2. Backlight: 4
2. Picture :95
3. Brightness: 48
4. Color: 52
5. Hue: 0
6. Color Temp: Warm 1
7. Sharpness: 20
8. Noise: off Mpeg: off Dot: off
9. Motion: Smooth
10. Cine: Off
ADVANCED MENU:
1. Black Corrector: Medium
2. Advanced Contrast: Low
3. Gamma: +1
4. Auto Light: off
5.Clear white: Off
6. Live color: off
7. White Balance: (adjust these only) Green gain -1 Red bia's +1 Green bia's -2 Blue bia's +1
8. Detail:Off Edge: Off

You can make changes to the above depending on the content/your preference.
 
Yup those settings are good too. Just change color temperature to warm1 from warm2. warm2 makes the picture appear a bit too yellow. You may feel differently though. ;)

May i ask something off topic:

I will be buying the t.v from sony centre (sony exclusive showroom) listed on sony india's site and also it has good ratings on justdial..Still should I be worried about a demo piece.?:confused:

Not really. Just make sure the box is completely and properly sealed with original Sony hologram. :)

Also check usage hours after unboxing it.

But frankly, there is nothing to worry. Sony Centers never do such things as they will be in big trouble if they do such a thing and Sony India management comes to know about it.

If buying from multi brand stores, then yes there is a low chance of such things happening.
