Guys, bear with me .. 'repeat' question .. which 32" TV ..?

Having moved from a 30 inch samsung crt to a 42 inch pana plasma myself, I too would recommend that you try and make the space for a 42 inch entry level pana plasma which would be within your budget. Tweaking your cabling would still be worth your while.

ok, I am aware of the fact that you are staying far away from LG as you didn't have a good experience with their and CRTs and now when you are on a way to upgrade your TV, you are not considering LG in your List.
when it comes to LED, LG uses IPS panels in their TVs while other brands like Samsung, Sony are using VA and TN panels and IPS panels are said to deliver the best PQ and also wide viewing angle which other brands are faile to deliver.
I am not insisting you to go for LG but just want that when you check out TV models, make sure that you check LG as well and then make the final decision as per your criteria.
I have got a 55" LM8600, that's a 3D TV which comes with a price tag of Rs 2,20,000.

Guys ... the TV is for the others at home ... not me :p. Son is on cartoons .. Shin Chan, Doraemon ... daughter is on English serials ... wifey on Bengali / English serials and DVD based movies, that too just once a while. I barely get to sit in front of that gadget. In case I ever do (once in a blue moon), then maybe for news, or an interesting ongoing cricket / football match, a movie .. if, of my type ... blood, gore, action, war, suspense and Amir Khan :).

Then WHY / WHAT is the need to go over-board here? The way the TV gets handled ... frequent changing of channels, long operation hours when in use ... need something, which is either robust or should'nt pinch hard or I should'nt feel crest-fallen if the undesired has to happen in the recent future.

Now, I could also settle for yet another CRT ... yes, better SD performance, lower price, more robust ... yet, still going ahead with 'thin' TV? Peer pressure ... family-faced!:mad::sad:

29 CRT is any day better than HDTV for watching 4:3 content. If they are not going to watch HD programmes @ all, then here is no point in buying HDTV.

You can easily get a 29 CRT for 15K. But if they are insisting on LCD TV, you may need to spend an other 10K over that...

I have been using Panasonic TH-L 32X24D LCD HDTV (27K) for a little more than year & am pleased with the SD performance & love the HD performance. I initially got 1 yr warranty, but converted them to 3 yrs after e-mailing their customer care...

Now, now, now, Avid, why don't you want your family to enjoy the large screen experience? Very mean of you.

OTOH, once the cabling is done why do you want to go behind the TV at all, later? On the size front I don't think a 40" (LCD/LED) or a 42" Plasma should not be very different from a 32".

Also, you would need to use your AVR and speakers as the sound from most thin panel TVs is not satisfying at all, particularly for a living room situation.

I am surprised about your issues about connectivity. I have seen even the most entry level TVs of today offering several simultaneous connections.

I would urge you to consider at least 42" Plasma (I own one from LG) for the price as well as the performance.

I think, gone are the days when our equipment would last and last. Our Sony CRT lasted over 25years and was still working when I exchanged it for a Panny LCD for my father's bedroom, recently. So your six year life of hthe LG CRT is par for the course!

CRT is always, ALWAYS..ALWAYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS better for SD stuff. SD stuff on hdtv look like goo! but on crt's they look nice and crisp as long as you're not sitting close :)

Our thomson 29" curved CRT from 1996 is still chugging along quite nicely as bright as it has always been :)

For best picture quality in watching channels by adjusting it to best conditions required for that purpose it comes out to be (in terms of black levels much reqired for better picture quality)
1. Panasonic Plasma
2. Sony LED
3. Samsung Plasma
4. Samsung LED
5. LG LED

This should give you a correct picture.
LCD Panel Technology - S-IPS, VA, Super PLS and TN Monitors

People should try to correctly guide and stick to facts. Tendency should not be to justify ones possessed by self. I know it is quite very natural :):D, but most are'nt kids here any longer.

Check as many website as you can..it's the truth that contrast ratio and color accuracy and black level are important factor for best pic quality.SPVA got all three advantages and IPS got only one..i.e color accuracy.
The contrast ratio of SPVA at anangle greater than 60 degree equals the contrast ratio of IPS at 0 degree.
CNET gives better ratings to sony/samsung/sharp leds than lg/panasonic leds in terms of pic quality.
Sony/samsung models priced between(60k-80K) offer much better pic quality than LG cinema 3d tv though those are very high priced.

I don't want to defend any model/brand..ask any other well-informed member here..they will tell you same.

Just wondering why Sharp LCD/LED is not considered as an option. Quality wise they should be better than the rest. Also will fulfill the robustness criteria too. BTW I am very happy with my 29" Philips HD CRT (29PT8836) and not in any mood to change that till eternity even after peer pressure. Will have to wait till the EHT fails.

Said by who :indifferent14:

LG TVs have sub par PQ and there is no getting away with that. All reviews say the same and anyone can verify the same by comparing an LG LED set with Sony/Samsung LED. LG TVs have much worse blacks (greyish) and poor contrast similar to desktop monitors. Color accuracy also they are not better than Sony/Samsung sets.

Viewing angles yes but what good are excellent viewing angles when even head on the PQ is uninspiring at best.

Finalized the Pana 32X50D!

Have not taken delivery of the LED as yet. Wifey wanted to buy an all-in-one audio set (its an outdated concept nowadays) provided with cassette, CD and USB drive. That should be available by Wednesday. So, the LED also comes in then.

The Pana 32X50D looked fine (they all do .. :indifferent14:) ). Watched both HD as well as SD thru it. Image was clean, sharp, with sufficient blacks and quite acceptable colours. Naturally, I do not disagree, the plasma colour is more natural and vivid in comparison. This is the older edge-lit, thin version with IPS panel.

Wifey would have been happier had I opted for a larger sized TV, but the MCP I am, stuck to my guns ... quoting our beloved, economist, uncorrupt PM's recent dialogue "paisey kya per par ughtey hain?" :p The other points too were discussed over again, there itself.

Price agreed: 29.5K inclusive of LG 29" faulty CRT exchange .. otherwise 31.5K. 2 year warranty.

Dude, time is changing and CRT is fading away..... won't you want your near and dear ones to be future proof. so why stick with CRT. May be now he is not watching HDTV, but after buying a HDTV might be he will ;)

Congrats avidyarthy on your LCD HD TV purchase...

Hi RamboV,

Even i changed from Philips 29 CRT to Panasonic 32 LCD TV more than a year back.....I reason i upgraded was to watch HD movies on it. I watch atleast 2 - 3 movies a week...But other than that, my wife watches serials on it for roughly 3 hrs a day... 4:3 SD content look Sharp on a CRT than the HD LCD TV.

Since his family members also watch more of 4:3 SD content, my recommendations were for 29 CRT at just 1/3 of the cost of LCD TV.

BTW it might take few more years in my opinion to get full fledged HD channels on our STB's.

FOR BENEFIT OF BUYERS of LED TVs IN THE "IMMEDIATE" FUTURE ....

Edge lit LED TV vs. Full array LED

Read through completely .... though, it is a bit of a battle-field in here. As usual, the ones who have opted for some design (unknowingly), presume that their buy is the best! Anyway, enough tech material is present to guide you 'knowingly' to your dream purchase ....

Try settle for models with IPS panels, if possible ... it is generally not discussed in Forums. It is of a big advantage.

Not gonna argue about IPS and SPVA panels..but the truth is CNET rates SPVA panel equipped sony/samsung/sharp leds much higher in terms of picture quality than IPS equipped lg/panasonic.

As a matter of fact latest panasonic high-end led model WT50 got very bad review among experts due to it's bad performance in terms of pic quality.
