Guys, bear with me .. 'repeat' question .. which 32" TV ..?

Edge-lit model got higher number of leds on sides, where back-lit models got lower number of leds on the back of panel..also they redesigned the layers which also reduced the weight of the panel.

Agreed, back-lit would have lesser number of LEDs, but it still does not explain the straight 50% weight reduction. Weight of individual LED is hardly anything to make much of an overall weight reduction. Could be something else ..... maybe, the light guides used in the edge-lit ones could bring about the increase in weight.

BTW, checked with a Sony service engineer .... the LEDs are placed only on one edge, and not all round the edges. The light guides do the guidance! He was'nt able to come up with anything on the weight difference though.

Watching '3 Idiots' on Sony Max just now .... superb picture quality. The panel too is not an issue ... colour mis-match only happens at extreme wide angle viewing ... such angles never happen at my room. Overall, very pleased with this purchase with the hope nothing untoward happens in future.

Thanks to FM aks316 ......

I can see that weight of the stand of 40EX650 is around 2.8kg..where it's 300gm in case of 40EX430.
They may also use lighter material for the body also. Also there are less number of ports, no dlna/wifi option..so less number of components..also they must have designed the panel to make it light..
BTW congrats on getting 40EX430..you can't go wrong with sony.

Yay congrats! your mind will be blown when you watch full HD content on it :) As for weight. Unlike sound, video technology advancement is one area where lighter thinner often go hand in hand with excellent picture quality. You will notice as you go higher and higher the video tech chain things will only get thinner and lighter. Our HX800 is around 6-7 KG as well and the picture on full hd leaves you speechless and the tv dosnt get hot even after hours of use.

Are you serious??? It didn't feel anywhere near that heavy when we wallmounted it! My amp is around the same weight and it kills me! I guess it's probably because the weight is spread across such a large surface area.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
