Hathway goes HD in Bangalore??

Got the HD box yesterday!

I paid Rs. 3666 for the box and will pay the monthly subscription as usual, 1500 for half year, which amounts to 6666 for a year for everything. I was expecting him to ask me to pay 6666 upfront but he asked to do that instead and its probably better than paying that large sum at a time.

Everything seems good. PQ of the HD channels is excellent and the rest are the same. One thing that struck me is how good a channel TravelXP is. Its an Indian channel with Indian hosts and narrators. Its a nice change from the usual travel shows and everything is very well made. I'm surprised that this channel is not promoted a lot elsewhere.

Ya. Travel XP is amazing. BTW did your cable person confirm whether they will provide IPL in HD? Mine hasn't told me anything proper whether they will give sony max hd feed during ipl 5.

I asked him about ESPN, Star Cricket and Max HD and he said he didnt know anything about it.

He did ask me for my electricity bill/telephone bill for address proof because Hathway wants to call customers with HD and ask them "feedback and special services". Those were his exact words. He also noted down the smart card number on the HD form and upon me asking him why he was doing so, he said that CAS will be implemented in Bangalore within this year end and he was required to get the numbers of HD smart cards.

Hope atleast some of this info turns out to be accurate in the future.

Max HD has REPLACED Zee Cinema HD on channel 368. Looks like in spite of all the hype over digitization and HD, the old "cablewalla" tricks will always be a part of it. Sad.

Actually they have bandwidth issues. Once the digitization is complete, we will get many channels... Or probably it is in testing stage and Zee Cinema HD will be added soon.

Any Idea about the In cable offering HD services...i have been asking my cable guy and as ever is reply in 2 weeks from 2 months...i asked him to change to Hathway as he operates hathway too and his reply was sorry hathway for my area not permitted...funny what i want i cant get it because of area division b/w the operators....

A friend of mine has been wondering about this as well. In the ads for ESPN and Star Cricket HD, its mentioned that they are available on In cable. But neither his local person nor Customer Care have any idea about it. I guess they may have started in other cities. He's really jealous that I get Ten and Max HD ;)

As for the territory issues, I totally agree with you. I too had a similar experience when I inquired about Sify Cable in my area a couple of years ago. They said they couldnt provide it in my area because they were not allowed to put cables in my locality. This seems to be a carryover of the "cablewalla" mentality from about 6-8 years ago where cable was just provided by a bunch of small offices with a dish on top of the building. I remember reading about how they would almost come to blows when faced with competition. I guess old habits die hard.

I'm sure In will start HD services at some point cuz they're a large operator.

Yes heard about that era when there were multiples of cables running on the houses and each other day they would be cut off by the competition...From there the division of locality came into effect...But when they will start the HD services i think they themselves are not aware....another thing i found is IN cable lacks so many channels,,travel xp was in analogue now gone... sony music not added at all..now sony six shown dunno if it will be ever added at all or not...hathway seems to be adding the newly announced channels from day one.... :(

Hi,

My cable guy just installed HATHWAY HD SETOP BOX (Model#HDB100). The total cost he said was Rs. 6500/- (which includes setup box + 16 HD channels) + I need to pay monthly subscription of Rs.250/- for ther other channel.

Is this correct? Has anybody started using Hathway HD setopbox in Bangalore?

Awaiting your response!
Thanks,
Ram

Seems higher than others. Most are charged 6666 for a year which includes the box and all SD and HD channels. Payment schemes may be different but its the same amount in the end.

Maybe u have an operator who represents Hathway in ur area so he has his own charges on top of Hathway's.

Has anyone else has gotten this without paying the annual bill in bangalore

can someone confirm the list of the hd channels that are being shown, not the fake hd upscaled ones.

I paid Rs. 3666 for the box and will pay the subscription fee every 6 months, as I have been doing since I joined Hathway. The HD channels are: (I wont suffix HD cuz thats understood)

Star Movies, Movies Now, Zee Studio, Star Gold, Star Plus, Zee TV, Colors, Star World, Max, Ten, CNBC Prime, Nat Geo, History, Discovery World, Travel XP, MTunes

Max HD replaced Zee Cinema HD when IPL started. So Zee Cinema should return after IPL.

Also, none of the SD channels are upscaled. They appear the same as they would on a SD box.

I heard that Sony Six HD will replace Max HD after IPL. So, I don't think we will get Zee Cinema HD soon unless they drop a analogue channel to make space for additional HD channels.
