Hathway goes HD in Bangalore??

I've been thinking about buying a home theater system for a while now, more so after getting a HD box. I'm a little tired of the bass-less sound from the built-in speakers on my LCD TV. I've got a few basic questions which I hope someone (probably Gopichand) can clarify
1. Can I connect the home theater system to my TV such that the audio from all the different inputs viz. analog cable, HDMI (HD STB or PC) and USB will play from the home theater system? Especially, audio from USB is important to me.
2. What happens if the audio source doesn't have as many channels as the home theater? Do all the speakers give audio or just the ones to which the audio is channeled?
3. Am I correct that there are 2 types of home theaters, 5.1 and 7.1 channel? A 7.1 system is the one with a set of speakers designed to be placed behind the listener, but occupies more space, right?

Here are my views,
There are two ways of doing this. One is to have a home theater receiver which supports all the different inputs that you need and then connect the video out (HDMI/component) to the TV. Another way is to connect everything to TV and have the Audio Return Channel connected to your HTS. This way, the HTS will automatically play the audio of what is seen on TV. I use this approach. But this may need to have the TV support this feature (ARC) through HDMI or optical cable. I have my BR player, Xtreamer and Cable connected directly to TV all with HDMI and use the optical out of TV to connect to my HTS.
Usually HTS will have various settings to manage all types of audio source. Some of them can simulate surround sound even though the source may not have it. Or you can also set it to use the channels as it comes from the source.
Both 5.1 and 7.1 have speakers behind the listener. It is just that 7.1 will have two more than 5.1. Most of the sources are only 5.1 and hence it may not make much sense to pay extra and utilize more space for extra two speakers.

appuchan explained everything. If you have a TV which has optical out, it is good for you as you can connect everything to TV and outout of TV goes to the home theater.

Zee Studio HD and Discovery HD channels are also providing dolby now.

For me it is showing dolby audio on 6 channels: Movies Now, Zee Studio, Colors, History TV 18, Discovery and M Tunes.

Now 12 channels have Dolby: Star Movies, Movies Now, Zee Studio, Star Gold, Six, Star World, Star Plus, Colors, Sony, History TV 18, Discovery and M Tunes
Thanks! Are you guys receiving audio on Zee Studio HD? I have connected TV directly to my TV without any AVR via HDMI. I am not receiving audio in both PCM or Dolby modes for the past 2 days.

Yep its working fine now. Hathway music (SD) added at channel 300. Ten golf added, but is blocked

I am living in Vasanath Nagar, Bangalore. I asked the cable operator to install HD set top box. I alread have the SD set top box. He said One Time payment 5500 + 200 rs per month. I agreed to it after going through this forum. But now he is asking 300 rs more. He says Hathway HD SB does not come with HDMI Cable. All other HD SBs comes with HDMI Cable. I checked it with my friend who has Airtel SB. Is it true Mr Gopichand? Do i need to pay extra 300 to him?
