Hathway goes HD in Bangalore??

Chirag, What steps did you follow to get Hathway HD? I called main office, they asked me to get in touch with LCO. LCO is downplaying HD box. My LCO is Thirumala Cable Network.

Our LCO guys are good. They had 4 boxes in stock so there was no issue. I already had SD connection from my LCO ( of Hathway) so there was no procedure required to call Hathway main office.

There are many reasons why LCO downplays:

1. There are no settop boxes
2. Running issues with Hathway
3. No cable yet to your premises
4. Poor guy sitting on telephone does not know what is HD ( ya that happened :) )

So, just keep on asking repeatedly, they may listen to you some day :)

Nice pics, Chirag. Please do add a pic of the remote as well.

As for the news that HD quality will go up to 1080p, I'm sure that the person who told u this doesnt quite know what he said. TV broadcast in 1080p is virtually non-existent. No channel in the US is broadcast in it and I believe just 1 or 2 channels in the UK are 1080p, that too on a specific Freeview STB. And the huge bandwidth increase it requires over 720p doesnt justify it either.

Hope ur cable guy is right about the other 2 points though.

sorry, I couldn't edit and attach photo to my previous message so adding here. I also forgot to mention that this is universal remote.

Also, cable guy told that 1080p will be using software upgrade like what Reliance hd does. I have reliance and hathway both. I know that upscaled HD is much better compared to SD on hathway.

Btw, I hope when complete digitization happens, cable will have much more bandwidth as bandwidth from analog will be available.

When u say universal remote do u mean it can switch the TV on and off and change channels while in analog mode? If thats the case, its fantastic!

It'll be great if they do something like Reliance and upscale the SD channels.

Yep, digitization will result in more bandwidth but the whole process seems to have become a farce. It was postponed at the last moment the last time and yet again some MSOs are starting to raise doubts whether it'll happen on Nov 1, according to a few news items I read. And this is just for 4 cities. I dont mean to sound pessimistic but I think the rest of India is gonna take a very long time to go fully digital.

Yes, it can play around with TV. Not sure what is analog mode that you are talking about. I have settopbox so why would I connect tv in analog mode? you wanna play with dual connections ;)

Yeah I've connected the analog-out from the STB to the TV analog-in. If I wanna just watch some news etc for a minute or two I generally dont bother to switch to HDMI input. The considerable delay in switching even SD channels puts me off if I'm trying to keep track of 2 or more channels.

btw, how much does Hathway HD cost? today the local cable guy is saying I need to pay 3K for the HD STB, 2.5K for 20 HD Channels for one year and another 2.2K for regular SD channels for one year. In total 3K initial cost, and 4.9K periodic cost.

cost varies here and there! I paid 6200 Rs for STB + HD + SD for 1 year. He came after few days asking for monthly installement. I refused to pay. I pointed that on website hathway has put ~6500 + HD+SD for 1 year. How can he charge more from me after that? Btw, I paid check directly to Hathway.

Hey Guys,
If i need second connection and am just ok with Analog, Do I need to pay them still ? Or i can make cabling on my own and use it for free :-)

The question of having a second cable connection in the same house has always been a matter of debate. If you can get the cabling done I dont feel its wrong. I take the analogy as using the water supply in different rooms the same house. The only problem is that if the cable guy notices that you have done so, he may question you and say that you need to pay. But find out if your cable provider has some concrete rules about this.

I enquired local cable operator in kasthuri nagar and they do not provide hathway hd , but they are launching their own HD service from Nov 10th with 20 HD channels. Waiting to go for it.

Heard from my local cable operator (IN cable) that they are testing out the HD cable boxes and would start operations in 1 week. But from my previous interactions with him his 1 week extends out to a long time period which is naturally in months...

Do you know what will be device cost and monthly subscription cost ?

I live in Koramangala and V3 is the local operator/distributor for Hathway, I was quoted 6555/- for the HD STB and one year subscription. did any one get a better deal than this? :)

I switched this month beginning from IN cable to Videocon D2H - went with the HD Platinum pack offer. When I spoke with my local cable operator, he was not sure when they are going to launch HD service. He also mentioned that the figure he has heard about HD STB is around Rs 6000/-.

Hathway has completed 1 year of HD service. The new prices are as below
1) If you are a new subscriber, you need to pay Rs4500/-. This includes HD box and 1 year HD channels free(Current ones + any new HD channels which will be added in the future). You need to pay separately for the SD channels. Monthly charges for SD channels vary depending on your cable operator and the area.
2) Those who have completed 1 year HD with hathway, they will need to pay Rs2200/- for the one year of HD channels(Current ones + any new HD channels which will be added in the future). They need to pay separately for SD channels. Again this price varies depending on the cable operator and the area.

The bouquet of SD+HD channels which was available last year when they launched HD is not available now. Now, you need to pay separately for SD and HD channels. This is a good move as the price for SD+HD last year was Rs6500/- and cable operators were asking for more for SD channels.
