Dear fellow member, I am new to this forum and really impressed at the knowledge and opinions of some of the members.

I am planning to set up a Home Theatre with following specification,

1. AVR- Onkyo TX NR818/809 (not yet made up my mind, please help me to decide)-my budget is 50000-65000
2. Floor standing - Polk RTI A7-Rs.50400
3. Surround -Polk FXi A6-Rs.26100/-
4. Centre-Polk CSi A4-13500
5.Subwoofer-Polk DSW PRO660-30700/-

my room specification is 12"/14" and 10" high. I am also planning to invest around 30000-40000 in a good quality HD LED projector, let me know if you have any suggestion here. I will be using the entire setup mainly for movies, music and computer gaming.

the speaker prices were offered by Pro FX Kolkata. Please let me if you have any better setup within the same price range.

What are the basic requirement for good room acoustics ? I need your help to zero in on my selection.

Thanks Rupam for your suggestion. the reviews are helpful, but I have tried them in Kolkata . Do you any dealer in Kolkata selling Wharfedale ?? Can you throw some light on the AVR I have chosen? Is there any better option in the same price range ?

For Wharfedale you can consult : Harmony Audio, 13, Shyama Charan Smriti Tirtha Road, P.O. New Alipur (opposite Chirantani Club). Call Mr. Vasudeo Jagwani 983008504. I have mate him once for my HT. He is very cooperative.

Otherwise you can contact: S.K.S. TRADERS (for Wharfedale, Quad, Vanguard, DAC)
31/N/1, Siddhinath Chatterjee Road, Kolkata - 700034.

for floor standers you can also look at Sonodyne 2605V3. they are amazing and mind blowing.
cheers

If you go for RTiA7 then you MUST go for at least the 818, however you can save some budget on the surrounds by going for lower models or sats. Although in firums you will find the work "timber matching" I never perceived it.

Also if you are going for a dedicated sub why go for RtiA7?

Thanks very much Rupam, I will get in touch with the dealer and try it out. Do you have any suggestion for LED Projector? should I go for a DLP/LCD projector instead of LED projector. the only concern with the DLP projector is their short Lamp life.

Thanks Mukti1684, I went to South city mall to try Sonodyne speakers with Denon combination, the sales person was not very knowledgeable and suggested me Genie 3 series of speakers, I did not like them. He did not have 2605 v3 for demo.

Thanks very much Rupam, I will certainly meet the dealer for a demo and suggestion. In the meanwhile please give your suggestion on my selection of the AV receiver(Onkyo TX NR 809/818), most of the dealers I have met are suggeting Denon AVRs, is it because they sale these AVRs or it is true that Denon is better than Onkyo in terms of sound quality, Movie watching experience and features?? the features and specs of onkyo AVRs are really impressive. One more thing, the only Onkyo dealer, Promises is quoting the Onkyo AVRs at much higher rates than the rates available on Internet(ebay.in, Global easy buy). Will it be safe to buy from ebay.in ?

Please suggest me some good LED projectors within 40K.

Thanks Saikat for your suggestion. am I right in selection of the AVR? do you have any better suggestion on AVR within the same price range and the same price bracket ? Do you know any other dealer other than Promises who deals in Onkyo receiver ?? they are quoting much higher price than the onkyo receivers available on the internet.

Do you have any suggestion on a good LED projector within 40K???

I just wanted to help by mentioning you may get more results in your search for "timbre matching" rather than "timber". But I agree with haisaikat that better to get a good front pair with a matching centre speaker, but certainly you can get more economical surround and rears.

I think you said 50K for the AVR correct? It is a decent AVR in that range and for movies nothing beats Onkyo. You can still look for Denon 1912/1913 or 2312 but not sure of the price of the later. Denons are a balance between movies and music but feature wise Onkyo is better. You will not do any mistake if you go for either.

I do not think anyone else in Kolkata deals in Onkyo, and Promises is very bad on giving competitive price however if you do commit on buying I have heard then they are more in a position to offer you discount. Do bargain giving reference of the online prices and also you can speak to Mr Mohan 9841426209 who is Onkyo Regional Head for sales and service in case you are worried about service if purchased online.

Today I went to SKS Traders, Kolkata, tried Morduant Aviano floor standing speaker with Wharf Diamond 10.1 Bipolar surround, it was good but not impressive, the set did not have any Sub. Later I tried the Dali floor standing (Zensor- 5), I liked the sound produced by Dali speakers, the treble was more crisp and base was more compact. anyway they discouraged me to take the Wharf Obsedian series. For that matter they compared Wharfedale speakers with stray dogs where as Dali, Morduant, and Quad were like Dalmatians to them. It was surprising to me. The owner was not offering much discount. anyway looking forward to try out Klipsch. Guys do you know any dealer selling the Klipsch speakers in Kolkata. Thanks Rupam for the name and numbers of SKS traders.

Due to some reasons (which is of-course dealers benefit) SKS is not favoring Wharfedale.
I have heard Wharfedale, and they are at the same league of Dali, Morduant. Each company has their best model and worst model. you only have to choose.
You can contact Mr. Vasudeo Jagwani @ 9830085043

You can tell him my name. I'm also going to purchase from him.

For THIS room size, you would be faaaaaaar better off with bookshelves than floorstanders! Pity, no one pointed this out to you till now. This Forum has people going ahead and procuring FS for similar sized rooms and then later (much earlier than expected) giving away the FS to finally settle for BS.

Moreoever, most here had started off with HT system (5.1, 7.1 ... 9.2 blah blah) and it has been observed that within 365 days have gone in for 2 channel music only .... :p :p. Just trying to help you in NOT wasting money .. by raw experience ... :indifferent14:
