Help Needed - Deciding between LED & Plasma models

^ In other words this site and the other uk review site's review of Sony lcd is fail. I never liked the HX800 even as much as the ex700 when i saw it in Sony world, HX800 has bad blacks and contrast for the price it demands IMO.

Now if only Sony could get some Ukrainian review site.

The HX800 turned in a respectable contrast ratio of 2,814:1 says this site

btw , i hav eclicked pics of the stcker on the boxs backside and it says -------------- UA46C8000XRMXL.
Which tech guru here knows the breakup of this "code" !!
afaik the C ( after the UA46) stands for the manufacturer of the panel (S for Samsung, C for some chinese/Taiwanese manufacturer..??

PL. CLARIFY !!
Will post on my experience !!!!

@drasitkhanna, C in the model no. denotes that it's a 2010 model. 2009 models used B and 2011 models will use D.

Check out this link to see if it can help u decode the type of your panel.

Good luck!! :-)

Aha.They have given a contrast ratio of 5222 while it is actually 94/0.02=4700 for the HX800. Looks like they have been itching to give a boost somewhere to the HX800

If you read the entire review they said the blacks averaged 0.018 so i guess in the image its a typo.So 94/0.18 is 5222
You can also see the min blacks /max blacks and also the min contrast and max contrast.

The measurements we have revealed both a TV with very good information and other great skills to manage the specific grayscale.
In window 10% white (peak brightness), the state television gave black 0 nits (possible price 0,02 nits) and brightness 50 nits.
In window 50% white television gave black level 0 nits (possible price 0,02 nits) and brightness 84 nits.
In box 100% white (brightness), the state television gave black 0 (estimated at 0,02 nits) and brightness 102 nits.
The card fee Chess Board, which approximates the more realistic behavior of all black state television received an average of 0,0185 nits(from 0.017 to 0.02) and brightness from 88 to 94 nits, which reveals an imbalance rate of 9%.

do remember that even if technology evolves, your TV in the living room doesnt.
Very well put. Why most people do not understand this very basic concept, is beyond me. People talk of product obsolence, as if suddenly all of a sudden their Plasma TV will stop functioning the day OLED TVs hit the consumer market. Even if that were to actually happen, then wouldn't by logic their LED TV also stop functioning? Go figure.

Both technologies may evolve even the current so called LED's may become obsolete once OLED comes in, but how does that affect your current buying of a TV?
As a matter of fact, if and when 'OLED' technology trickles down to the mainstream consumer market, the current so called 'LED' TVs will become as obsolete as any other TV technology of today. The funny thing, or should I say sad thing, is that people cite an OLED future as support for their belief in the superiority of LED backlit TVs today, without even understanding that the two technologies have nothing to do with each other and that OLED will make LED backlit TVs as obslete as a Plasma TV.

You need to buy the best TV currently available as per your needs and eyes. Period.
Absolutely right, except that I would add, "your budget" to the equation. At the end of the day, getting the best 'value for money' is what most of us are aiming for. In other words we ought to only compare similiar priced products and base our decisions accordingly. Comparing a Rs. 400,000 so called 55" LED TV, with a Rs. 300,000, 65" Plasma TV, does not really make much sense. Even then, strangely enough, most if not all TV experts rate the 65" plasma to be superior to the 55" LED TV, in almost all picture quality parameters.

And not to mention, they always compare colors as "Plasma like" ;)

In the end its price to performance ratio as far as India goes ...
