Help needed to configure LG 47LE5500

Prit, have you set your TV @16:9 configuration,is it viewed that way normally,is it because the DTH realy is done in 16:9 aspect ratio??

@bala The Tatasky HD STB is set at 16:9/stretch. only other alternative is "pillarbox" - which I am not a fan of. Having said that, I initially anticipated that TV setting will not make any difference, however looks like there is some difference between 16:9 and "Just Scan". Just scan gives a slightly better orientation but comes with the rider of those dark bands all around. So have kept mine at 16:9. Hope this helps

Thanks Prit,it helped.I too have set it at 16:9,seems that is the ideal setting for DTH relay. While watching DVDs too I do not change.

Got an offer of 78000/- for 47 LE 5500 and 63500/- for 42" LE 5500. Hmm confused between sony 720 and LE5500.

tkrishnan - LE5500 - go fot it, either 42 or 47. Better 47 - if you have a viewing distance of 12 ft+. HD is simply amazing, renders SD very very well....

Prit....Hows the performance with a game console like Xbox or PS3?? any idea??....
And a lot of other threads complain tat 5300 dint have IPS panel at all........

How do you confirm that the one bought from CROMA or Reliance digital are IPS panel only? mere stickers wont help i think.....
I don mean to scare you but just tryin to know the truth....

Tats wy i v decided to go for LE5500
Now the price for LE5500 is 72k at a LG showroom(exclusive) with bluray and tatasky HD....just wanted to know 2 things
1) Is is genuine IPS panel? ( pixels should appear like <> when seen from a magnifyin glass to test if they appear [] then its TFT, i found this in one thread)
2) Does it suffer any input lag while playing games?

Please reply back....

@rajathslr - I have a 47 inch LE5500, not LE5300....
Not so sure about pixel shapes though, never bothered to check :)
But one thing for sure, this same model is sold worldwide as having IPS panel - and diff. in cost between IPS and non-IPS panels is simply not worth the risk/cost of litigation.
I have played with PS3, the default game mode sucks. I have the correct (in my opinion) expert config. Will share if/when you buy. Good Luck!!

42LE5500 for 67k along with bluray and tata sky, have managed to pull a deal for Tatasky HD set top box instead of standard one.
I m very much impressed by it...I will use it for gaming after 150 hrs of normal usage....however can u share ur Expert config..??? wd b very helpful...:yahoo:licklips:

No suggestions??
Prit,

Its a temption option to go for a bluetooth headset....I would say shell out lil more bucks and go for sennheiser(not sure of the model no) but it costs 3.5k but the only headache is the charging of the headphone.......
I would not buy it but though.....

Guys:
Metro offers 42 LG LE5300 for ~60K. They dont have LE5500 in stock. I need to make a decision whether to go for LE5300 or not. Can somebody throw light on why I should not go for LE5300 and buy only LE5500.

Also, I have viewing distance of 8 feet. Can I go for 47" TV?
Thanks
-pradeep

LG LE5300 has a lot of issues when it comes to connectivity and PQ quality even the LG guys wont recommend it for you, I had shortlisted 5300 at first but after seein hell lot of negativ feedbacks in amazon and other forums, I just had to drop it..........
So if you need a better option in LG its 5500, :licklips:

Dear Gurus,

Been following this forum for long, but this is my first post (better late than never!)

Background -
# was planning to buy a TV for long, was not sure which one (LED/LCD/PLASMA) or which make (Panasonic/LG/Samsung)
# Criteria was - 42" +; must play SD content well; must be Full HD; must play HD video files thru USB (I don't have BR player); low power consumption
# Scouted around, read posts in net (including hifivision of course!)
# Panasonic LCD - not impressed with PQ (especially SD), Plasma - high power consumption/no HD support on USB
# Samsung Plasma - SD was "horrible" (C550), LCD/LED were good but heard too many bad reports re after sales service

At last went to Croma (Jayanagar 9th block) Bangalore, purchased LG 47LE5500 at 80k + 2.5K for 2 yrs extended warranty. No point in discussing win/lose now, it's done! BTW, got the Tatasky HD at Rs. 2599 for ICC (they are broadcasting HD - opening ceremony was a blast!)

Observation -

HD Content is outstanding even close up (I sit around 12 feet away) - played via USB
HD channels are excellent (via HDMI)
SD channels are quite good (via HDMI); bit washed out if you are up close (3-4 feet) - but don't expect better with 480i.
Black tones could be better - have heard it can do great blacks, but not sure of custom settings
Doesn't play m2ts video files or DTS audio
Quite a few HD movie files are "video only" as the set does not recognize the audio format; per manual, should play AAC LC, but sometimes it doesn't

Question for Gurus -
I have a Compaq CQ42-139tu laptop with HDMI out. If I play the TV "unplayable" videos (which play well with audio/video) in my PC via VLC and connect the TV via HDMi, will it play both audio & video on the set?
Is there any way to improve SD content viewing experience vis some "expert mode" config? (Picture settings are exhaustive, but not sure what most of those mean)
Is there anyway to improve the whites/blacks ? Current settings are not outstanding to see

(I tried this - LG 47LE5500 picture settings - CNET HDTV picture settings Forums but am not quite impressed)

Prit, all HD inputs from USB and Tatasky HD are working just fine....
But when it comes to BD550 Bluray player its facing a lil bit of judder.....anyway i can adjust the settings or wat is the solution?.....cant go for anothr bluray now i can say tat...:indifferent14:

Have been out of circulation for some time - went for a pilgrimage with parents to Uttarkhand. Will try and respond back one by one ASAP. Sorry for the delay folks!

LE5500 give better flexibility and features at a minimal cost difference, so why not? you don't buy a TV every other week, do you? :)

for 8 feet viewing distance, don't go above 42 inch.... you will hate it unless you will view 100% HD and nothing else...

Yeah... too expensive... guess I will shelve the plan and wait for somebody to gift it on my b'day! ;)
