First, I think I should tell my requirements :-

1. Maximum use for watching cable TV {Can opt for DTH service (HD/non HD) if suggested }.
2. Playing Video Games through my PC/lappy.
3. Occasional DVD movies (say once in a month or so).

Now, My budget is max 70k, would perfer to keep it lower...
Also, My viewing distance would be 12 to 14 feet.

Further, few models I like :-

1. Panasonic 42V20D (Awesome PQ)
2. Panasonic 42X20D (Gr8 VFM)
3. Lg 42Le5300 (Stylish thin design, looks awesome even when switched off)

Please help me decide...

Look for lg5500 than 5300 but sd picture clarity is not that much good compared to panny v20 ,v20 is best in plasma as of now.....

Panny 42v20 is available for Rs.58 K at chennai. The pq is awesome. However panny 50v20's price is Rs.1 lakh.

cheers

Go for 47 LG LE 5300 or 4600 models .. They shld be well in budget.

I second Kittu's opinion. The LG47 LE4600 is excellent and will consume HALF the power over Plasma's. I have however not tested it for gaming. Would 100Hz suit you for smooth playback. Note however that SD PQ is not that great. For that a 42" would be better.

Thanks all for the replies...:)

But still I am not able to decide which one to go for

Can you people also give reasons for your choices...

Also, if I consider only basic TV viewing as the purpose, then what is the best choice ?

I thought le5500 was edge LED and le5300 was full backlit LED ???? But I am not sure...

Can anyone throw some light on this ??

Is there any advantage of full backlit LED over Edge LED ?

Are there any models available in INDIA with full Backlit LED ??

For your current purpose, 42X20D is sufficient, or any cheaper HD ready TV's from reputed brands which offer the maximum screen for minimum price, since you've got good viewing distance IMO.

V series holds tremendous potential in the HD viewing, due to it being a full HD, hence SD from local cable and DTH is so so.

Other plasmas like X series, U series etc., are absolute terrific VFM, LCD and LED's don't even come close to its price for the screen size.

LED's, LCD's etc., don't come cheaper than Pana V series, again if not used for much HD content, no use investing such huge sums of money.

AFAIK, there is only one LG model which has backlit LED and is priced upwards of 1.5lacs. Its performance presently is not greater than edge lit LED's even.

Also, IMO its better to buy the established technology at realistic prices than future technology which gets further fine-tuned at futuristic prices. A case in point is 3D technology, prices of which is falling drastically from previous year along with further enhancements.

Full Backlit LED's are upwards of 1.5 lacs [LG 8500 & 9500 series for a 42"]. Secondly do not limit yourself to ONLY viewing SD signals... By the end of this year over 75% channels will be available in Full-HD [your investment shud be future proof over the next 5 years at least].

Low Power consumption [and PRICE] was an important consideration when I chose my LG 47" LED4600 over Sony & Samsung. The bonus I also found was it's sleek looks, better screen protection, amazing sound & at 66.5k it's total VFM over plasma [Note plasma sets available in India have power cons over 350W & above + the heat that they generate].

It's USB drive supports playback from 2 TB HDD. My WD TV Live Hub is also connected to it for fabulous playback of any content. I am still waiting to decide on the best HD Dish connection - so at the moment content with my local Digi-cable set-top-box connection.

Yes Plasma's do consume more than LCD's or LED's but 350w is the max power consumption provided the screen is displaying only pure white at max brightness continuously, avg consumption will hover around 120 to 180 on 42 inch... without eco mode settings on.

The heat part is not that much of an issue with the 2009-2010 models, other owners can vouch on that...

hi for just basic tv viewing the 42X20D panasonic plasama is sufficient.I have been using this for the past few weeks only for tv viewing and found it VFM with its size and also the price.Black levels are good .It would meet ur requirements for tv viewing

Thanx all of you for replying.

The pendulum is 65-35 in favor of 42X20 over 42V20 now.

Will take the final call on Wednesday, when I will be visiting the Showroom for buying my new TV.

Any other thing or update on any issue, please do share.

So much confusion in buying a TV !!!

I have never felt such for anything I have bought earlier...

Now, the choices are 50X20 or 42V20, both available at 61k at my place.

Please help friends, gotta make decision before Wednesday.

Main use would be normal TV watching through TATA SKY HD DVR+ (already ordered).

Also, will the prices drop drastically after April 1. If yes, then I can wait BUT then I won't be getting 3 year warranty as this offer will end on 31 March.

Why do you think prices may drop drastically ? Any inside info with you ? Why are you looking for a plasma just to watch tatasky ? Any reason not to consider the LEDS in the same budget... ?

yes u r correct my dear frnd ,Price has already started dropping .last week lg 47le4600 was 72k today its is 67 k
lg 47 le 5500 which was 89k is today 84k with blu ray player free.
its better 2 wait and watch as many company want sell as much tv in world up and thanks to pm to reduce excise duty on imports as plasma and led are direct imports.
