Panasonic 42st30 is Passive 3D?

Here is what my selection:

LED+3D:
LG 42" LED 3D TV 42LW6500 Rs 75,290
LG 42" LED 3D TV 42LW5700 Rs 84,100
(Above 2models have 4 3D Glasses and Motion Sensing Remote)

LG 42" 3D LED TV 42LW4500 Rs 66,990
LG 42" 3D Plasma TV 42PW450 Rs 40,990

LED:
Samsung 5 Series 40'' LED TV UA40D5500 Rs 59,650

Please let me know which one is best from above?

No, It is active 3d but the PQ is superb. Handles motion better than lg led. nice depth and good for movies and sports( 3d is used mainly for these). Passive 3d pq resolution is lost by 50% though it is easy on eyes and 3d wear is much cheaper. And whatmore you may get 50st30 for around 90 to 95k if you wait for 1 or 2 months. 50 inch 3d plasma is worth a buy. you can find many reviews saying that plasma is the best for 3d, much better than lcd, and newer model lcd which nowadays they call led and charge exorbitantly

There is some mistake here LW6500 is the more expensive model. Either you have switched prices by mistake.
If that is the case then Rs. 84100 for 42LW6500 is a good price specially in Goa

The other possibility is that its LW5600 and not LW6500.

You can get a media player even if it does not play mkv files though most tv's will play it. Asus media players cost approx 3k so not an issue.
Secondly do you need a smart tv as the samsung midel is with wifi & internet ready. You can also get the d5000 led which will be cheaper by around 4 to 5k.

Please first decide upon:

1. LED or plasma ?

2. HD ready or full HD ?

3. 3D or no 3D.

The samsung UA40D5500 is LED while the PW450 is plasma

The samsung UA40D5500 is a premium product while the PW450 is a basic one.

The sammy is full HD while PW450 is HD ready.

The samsung UA40D5500 is not a 3D while the PW450 is 3D

If can manage, look at LG LW4500 LED 3D, which you may get at 65K, which has passive glass, almost inexpensive. You may get dozens of it for the cost of one active 3D glass. It is a premium product , LED, and 3D.

Samsung 5500 or the Sony Ex-520. You will get much cheaper prices in the grey market. Last i had checked , the samsung d5000 led was offered for 42k & the ex-520 for 51k.

This model has very few reviews in india. Since it have (42PW450T with terrestrial DVB Tuner ) many good reviews in the avforum,UK, I tried to have a demo of this model, without success.

Samsung 43D490 is in the same price range(without any 3D glass) which have good reviews in this forum, and I found it is acceptable.

Please try demo both models if possible. Without a demo go for samsung. Since I am after a full HD plasma, I am looking now at 42U30 by panasonic. Now a 3D model of the same (42UT30) is out as per the panasonic website, I am waiting for its price before taking a final decision.

If you are particularly interested on 3D, IMO it is better to wait, as by next year more companies will introduce passive 3Ds forcing LG to cut the prices to at least 40-45K for 42 inch.

Even at this price range, considering the cost of 3D glass for the whole family, the plasmas will catch up in terms of cost of ownership, if you have a big family.

No No I am not an expert in this area. As I am also looking for a plasma now I read a lot in this and other forums. I watched the panasonic and samsung at more than one shop. But LG never.

The options are simple:
Panasonic - Full HD panel, reputed company, but no 3D

Samsung - HD ready. Only one third of full HD pixels. but have 3D. Here again you have to spend Rs. 3500.00 for a pair.

LG also HD ready with one pair of glass.

If you ar playing full HD video (1080i or 1080p) there is a marked difference in clarity in the panasonic. You can also sit coloser to have an engrossing view.

In SD samsung is better as it has lesser pixels. The 3D also is reasonably good.
Price of all models are comparable.

Now that more and more HD channels coming up, I my opinion full HD is the way to go, even at the cost of foregoing 3D.

If you can wait, 3D model of panasonic 42U30 has released in the west and is given its indian website. But I expect the price will be around 50 -55K.

If you wish to experience 3D, and is planning to buy a computer monitor, here is an alternative I found.

But I doubt it is worth waiting. The active glass is going to cost too much for the entire family. LED 3D TVs by LG is now available at 65K and the glasses are very cheap. The total cost of ownership will be in favour of LG 3D, which bothers me.

.............mmmmm.....I don't know.
The old CRT is serving my parents with SD, and a new LED full HD monitor is serving my HD requirements for the time being.

If you do not have urgent requirements and are interested in 3D, I think it is advisable to wait.
