Hello TV Experts :)

I am goldy from Goa, i am much more confuse in buying TV which is good for future as there are lots of tv brands out there with special feature like Full HD,HD Ready and 3D

My Budget: 45000
Size: 40inch
Feature i want: Full HD,smart tv(internet, youtube .etc) and i also thinking about 3D but i realised after reading some of thread here and there and found out that 3D is not good(Shutter 3D & Passive 3D) and very expensive 3.5k for one glasses at sony showroom. so i decided not to go for 3D

Btw i want little info on LED and Plasma? which is better for living room is about 6f distance?
i will also get DishHDTV DTH Service

please let me know your advice :)

Hi, buying a tv can be both frustrating and equally rewarding. you will get different reveiws from diff people. Having said that you need to understand the basics before you make a decision.

Plasma's are more superior to LED/LCD in terms of color accuracy, black levels, contrast ratio, etc........plasma's will give you that true cinema experience with realistic flesh tones. But you need to watch plasma in a dark room with minimal lighting to really see the magic. If you viewing room is extremely bright, then LED might be better suited for you. Plasma is also more easy on the eyes and will not cause eye fatigue during long hours of tv viewing.

You should consider Panasonic's models with neo pdp panels which are only found in V,S,G series. They are by far the most superior plasma panels. If you wants 3D the 2011 series are VT,ST,GT,UT. Plasma is generally better suited to handle 3D. Even if you get the 2010 42V20 in your budget, you should grab that immediately. It still is one of the best 2D tvs in the market with the neo pdp panel.

Panasonic scores on pic quality but falls back a bit on other features like media player, internet tv, etc compared to samsung/lg. SO, if that is more imp to you then look at samsung plasmas. But, I suggest go for the best pic your budget can give you and then perhaps get a media player to play all your media files.

Please do not go for dish TV, opt for Airtel or Tata Sky.........you will get better service and better technology rather than Dish TV upscaled HD channels which is false marketing.

Viewing distance is ascertained on video content. HD requires you to sit closer, while for SD the distance should be greater. 6ft for 1080p is perfect for a 42inch tv, but might be too close watching regular SD broadcast.

Since diwali is round the corner, wait a bit and i'm sure you can get some good deals. all the best and let me know what you decide. Remember always trust your eyes and do not fall for all the sales talk you get at the stores, most sales staff have no clue what they are selling.

This is what i called superior explanation ;) btw 42V20 is in my budget?

thanks a lot mate :)

goldy - in which shop did you see sasmsung 43d490?

hmm... sales person told me not to tell anyone about the price but i dont give a Damn!

Samsung Showroom @Mapusa

cheer mate :)

well guys i have mostly decided on the samsung 43d490 @47k:sad: couldn't get to see any plasma TV with the normal dth(tata sky, airtel etc), most either had a dvd connected or a pendrive with some you tube videos on!
Not sure about the panna 42u30 because i couldn't audition it! seams no one has it on display!!!!
i found a slight difference in pq between the samsung plasma 43d90 and the lcd 40d550,both were playing a 1080 video i think! parents found no difference between the two which warranted us to only go for plasma! dad is a bit scared because of the burn in and watching 4:3 or letter box broadcast on the plasma, they might not be careful when watching channels with those fixed logos like on the news channels! They might forget to watch movies in widescreen form(dad finds widescreen a bit funny!dontknow if he will get over it??) when they are broadcasted in letter box form and they may not take care of the black bars, i hope you know what you mean!

so for all these so called problems, is it ok if i just went ahead and bought a lcd(40d550) and at least have some piece of mind!!knowing my parents may forget to do the things people normally do for plasma's!
if you guys feel i am making a mistake please help me to resolve it!

budget 55k max!
viewing material:90% SD signal from tata sky(will upgrade to tata sky hd )
viewing distance: 8 to 16feet

any amount of help will be appreciated!!!:)

47k was the price indicated to me without bargain at margao brand shop just before Chaturthi. It should come down in my opinion. Which shop did you visit?

diwali offer (now available) includes 2 free 3-d glasses

did you go to panasonic showroom in panaji?

search the forum for burn-in issues. burn in prevention has improved drastically of late. but in general, the rules are:

When you get your PDP, go to brightness & contrast and reduce them to viewable level. This will make your phosphors last longer. Use cinema mode instead of standard/vivid.
You may have reflection issues if your room is too bright.

The first 100 or so hours have the most potential for burn-in. Think of it as a break-in period. During this period, set your TV to stretch the picture to fit the screen, or zoom in on letterboxed content.

If TV has a pixel shifter, use it.

Do not watch the same channel all day for like an entire week - the channel logo may burn in. If you are worried about DTH logo, then watch something else once in a while.

Letterboxed content - it won't burn in, but the middle part of the screen will be used more than the black part, so if you watch only letterboxed content for long durations, then the phosphors in the middle will fade out faster than the part that was black (noticeable in a few years!).

You may notice some faint after image once in a while - its not burn in and it will go when you view something else

i went to the brand shop next to eagles warehouse margao. his last price was 47k. i may exchange my old tv, so the price may come down by 3-4k!
i went to the pannasonic shop in panjim which is on that caculo road ,close to the lg brand shop. He had a 50inch x30 in his small shop. i was literally staring at a 50 incher from about 3 or 4 feet!! so the SD picture was really bad!
My parents will not change their tv till it conks off! so they will use it for even 10 years if they can!:ohyeah:!!
i really liked the PQ of the plasma as compared to the lcd. so if my parents are not ready to live with the shortcomings of a plasma tv then which good 40inch lcd or even led tv would you suggest for 55k max! sorry for really dragging this topic!

This appreciation is misplaced. The credit shall go the forum collectively. Information and knowledge are always there, for those who seek it. But in this age of internet, it become much easier to gather it. That is how we, from the different parts of India, spanning thousands of miles apart, came together in this forum in our collective hunt for the best and affordable AV systems.

I have passed that way a couple of times when shop was closed. Is it only a small shop? Panasonic is written almost across half that ground floor...

btw samsung brand shop in margao is talaulikar opp nanutel (acc to their website). i've seen the shop next to eagles but never visited it.

A good choice. If I don't get a decent price on 2D models, then I will consider it because of the 2 free 3D glasses :D

ok i have roughly decided either on the Samsung 43d490 0r the lcd 40d550. i dont think there are any other good plasma tv's at 55k besides the 43d490 & panna 42u30! My parents are still debating about the plasma which i am pushing,so it may either be one of the above mentioned tv's.
Sadly i have not been able to audition the panna 42u30! if any Goan member knows a shop where this model is on display,it will be of great help.

Also i would like to know from people who auditioned both the tv's if there is any difference between the 43d490 & the panna 42u30 in terms of pq bcoz both models are selling for the exact same price!

thanks

3d is not a priority, so any other difference in terms of brightness, contrast, reflection etc...

If you are considering plasma, panasonic panels are the best. P42U30 is a decent set. Have a look at the same, before you decide on anything else.

@all goan members! do you know of any shop which has the panna p42gt20d?? called some shops in panjim and vasco and those guys had no clue if that model is still there!

I don't expect it will be available. You'll have to custom order it from any panasonic TV dealer and delivery time will depend on where stock is located.
