Hifi Rack

all wood racks are not exactly simple to commission and make

hence i will be making one and keeping it in stock
a prospective client will have to buy "as is where is , how is "

i am sorry i do not have a time line for this though
nor do i have a price estimation - since it will be my first build ( whenever i get the time)

Hi Ali, have tried to request a quote for a three level theta series rack on your website today, but am not sure if it went through. Could you send me your mail address by pm. Thanks.

My wooden rack is almost ready. Being of teak wood, It's quite heavy and the vibrations will be minimum. I'll soon post photos of my equipment rack in a new thread.

What do you suggest for further vibration damping ? I can use vibrapods but I have read that they sometimes spoil the polish of wooden surfaces. I can also opt for a sandwich base using stone/ply-silicon-ply/wood.

Hi
guys

We upgraded the Type2 stealth Beta rack for our Ht and casual stereo enthusiasts
This is now the MK2 Beta

Additions Made - Infact the entire rack is differnt except from the base U frame and the concept
the entire structure and shelf control is now a new design

the Mk2 features DUAL aluminium extuded columns for better support

the Entire Sliding bracket system has been changed to something far more simpler and user friendly for infinite height adjustment anywhere along the columns height

A more traditional and robust wire mgt system has been added to hide all the mess neatly

the footprint of the rack has been decreased still furthe rmaking the rack on of the most minimalistic racks today
MAx footprint
21*17 inch

heres a link to the older MK1

Hi Ali,

Just wanted to check if you finally made the wooden hifi rack?

Regards

This looks good,

Request you to PM the best possible price if you plan to sell this or make more pieces and the size of this rack.

Regards, Amit

hi all

thanks for the appreciation and support
though an all wood rack has always been on the cards
we have always been facing certain problems that are always a concern when working with wood

actaully taking this rack into production is not very difficult

there are only two issues
the black "polish" looks crap
it looks good only if a get it painted piano black high gloss- that is not cheap
Also i am having an issue sourcing 1.5 inch thk Maple currently - which is what you see above (shleves)

my new stock has arrived all 1 inch thk
though i had specifically ordred 1.5 inch

i am working to get that sorted

also the other issue is that this rack cannot be assembled by user
when i tried to make a disassemblable rack it turned out to be ricketty and having sway
i was not satified

only when i made it fixed it was better

this means my client has to decide the shelf heights and live with them
this also means i have to ship the rack in assembled condition

which is not a great issue though

i have already shipped a few assmebled condition racks with no problems

pricing
will be
for a rack with piano black painted side columns and melamine polish shelves (the natural light color )

this will be standard (i.e the 2nd photo)

maple does not stain well with darker shades

details - contact on mail or PM

soon there will also be another real budget rack launch
that will take a month or so though

hi Ali,

how abt using rubber wood panel instead of maple one.

As far as i know a company called Rubco from Kerala specialise in make rubberwood panels of various diemensions and they have distrubuters in many cities.

hmmm

lets see if they are willing to send me 50-100sq feet

thanks for the heads up

Good looking wooden rack, Ali. Congratulations!

Just wanted to say, you could use Asian Paints melamine glossy in a dark shade, but make sure it is spray painted. It would look good. In my new apartment all furniture including my teakwood audio racks (got two low ones now) is painted this way. Panditji of this forum and his wife visited our place recently, and they appreciated the furniture paint very much. In our case, the shade we chose is dark mahogany, looks quite blackish, but not really black. Our parental home where I grew up had all furniture made of Burma teak with this exact colour, and that's where I got the idea from.

Regards.

Thanks for the idea
i have a few questions though

asit

is the asian paints durable ?
also can it be buffed for high gloss

after you spray paint
what procedure do you follow ?
for the shine etc ?

also did you follow any prepaint procedure - e.g lambi/primer or direct paiint on wood surface after sanding

Also the grains of the wood are hidden once you paint right ?
so no need of grain matching ?

i use automative grade paint ( mostly Dupont ) with pre and post paint procedure

I agree with Asit sir...the huge bookrack at his house was melamine painted and it looked very nice indeed...But then not everyone can afford Burma Teak..

Good looking wooden rack, Ali. Congratulations!
