Hifi Wood Rack - Group Initiative - SoundFoundations (ali)

Rikhav rack was polished today

I picked a dark brown mahagony
Like bournville chocolate or wenge for the side posts

Looks good

I picked this color especially because you can see the wood grain

Black would have hidden them all

Eagerly waiting for the outcome Ali. :)

this is good news.

Pictures awaited.

Also pls work on the design of speaker stands.

Stand design is pretty simple
It's already worked out in my head

I have done a couple for harbeths

Will have to search my old pc for pics
For the time being I can upload pics that were sent to me by a client

Anyway
I was wondering
Who wants wood stands

I don't exactly remember any particular person who actually wanted them

Tomm I will try and take the disassembled pics of rikhavs rack
Won't be pretty though because I'm too lazy to get the backdrop put up

Hope I phone pics will suffice

I agree
On the cleaning issue
My family really fusses about that

The first shelf starting at 7inches of the floor?
Which means equipment will be at
8.5 inches off

Topmost shelf at 34?
That's a decent tt ht and still good enough not to give off reflections from the mid base

4 shelves including the top.?

Topmost shelf at 34 looks good. The offset from the floor of 7" probably can come down to 5". Currently I have some furniture at around 4.5" from the floor and they are good However more clearance at the bottom should be welcome to all. Even good for the equipment on the last rack.

Gopi

yes the offest from the floor is so that the lowest equipment is at a decent height so it doesnt get hit/dirty

7inch
too high?
ill make it 6 then?

below are some pics of rikhavs Maple and teak rack
need to complete the assembly with adhesive and wood screws

then will do the touch up and final polish layer

in one of the pics you can see a small portion of the side posts
see the chocolate dark brown shade

pictures look good. I think finish should improve after final coat of polish.

The panel seems good but pls check if it is available without those dark brown marks.

I understand different grades of panel are available for the same wood.

My original plan is to get the matching speaker stands along with the rack. Will decide after getting estimate of price.

Nice thread.

I am interested in metal racks and not wood ones but I would like to see the final product. Do you also do metal racks? Like Middle Atlantic?

unlike rubber wood which are artificial PANELS

this is natural maple - not panels
Knots and grains are part and parcel of using natural woods

i infact like the knots

Yaa you are correct.

i realised it little later.

pls post the pic of speaker stands also, i see few FMs are interested in them also.

these are pro audio standard rack mounts of steel

these have to be fabricated from sheet metal as per customer need
they can be done
but you will need to provide me details dwgs with dimns

are in the pro audio bussiness?

Could you give me approximate costs for something like that? A ballpark estimate would be fine.

No I am not in the pro audio business but I am only interested in pro audio equipment and not home audio equipment. As a result most of my equipment can be easily housed a standard pro audio rack and I prefer the clean industrial look as well, as a bonus it is very space efficient.
