Hi Gurus

I want to build a HT around YAMAHA product range i.e. AVR & fronts and then slowly adding other components. The reason being for choosing this brand is that in around my area YAMAHA is only brand available and can be auditioned.

I was looking for YHT-296-298 but on reading the views in forum it seems advised to build a HT slowly than to have a htib

Please advise.

Thanks in Advance

Build the setup slowly by adding an AVR and a pair of fronts now. Yamaha 671 will be a very good option for AVR. What is your budget for AVR?

Thanks for reply.

With suggestion of AVR-671, the budget is a constraint today but will keep saving for it to have it tomorrow. Can you please list the YAMAHA model no for fronts too.

Thanks

Please stick with only Yamaha for AVR NOT speakers..........you will find much better speakers. Yamaha is well known for AVRs not speakers.

Yes, I felt the pulse from forum that YAMAHA speakers are not as good as others, but my dilemma is that I don't have any other brand for audition, i will have to travel to New Delhi to have the auditions. So was inclined to have an all YAMAHA start up.

i understand the situation buddy....Since you don't have choices..take help of the expertise from fellow FM members...

Now let us know what genre of music you listen to ? Atleast you can collect inputs on amplifier + Speakers & travel to your nearest city & audition them.:)

As of now i don't have any audio setup, whatever music is seen/heard is on TV... Difficult to say for a genre of music... it is mix of punjabi hindi and english...To start with I was looking for 473 AVR with fronts only and then adding as and when budget allows...

spend one day..go to delhi..there are so much for audion...
select 3 to 4 speakers...lesten all with yamaha...
buy that day..get back to home...
if that is not possible...well gurus can tell then which speakers can be orderd....
wharfadale,sonodyne...have floorstanders at 28k and 39k.....for wharfdale you can directly order from hi fi mart.........

I have YHT 298 with Yamaha front NX 555. I have heard KEF, Polk and Jamo, NX 555 matches KEF Q 500, clear neutral sound. found polk and Jamo not to my liking. Could not audition Wharfedale as hardly anyone carried them.

Do you feel/recommend that to start with the combination for AVR-473 and NS-555 will be a good combination. (Did not see NX-555 on yamaha india website)

If u have decided on AVR473 then You can pick Yamaha 8390----14800/= Pair 0r NS 150f----19800/= Pair. That will be a very good match with AVR473

I have hands on with YHT 196.
Fair price and looks good. The system will beat a denon 2309 with polk speakers for its agility and expressiveness.Center channel is stupendous for this price.Good number of hdmi inputs.
HD audio decoders are not there. But a decent bluray player like pana bdt220 would do that.
Awesome dynamics.Crystal clear dialogues.
Pair it with bdt220 and you have an enviable HT.

aaah...again getting some + for htib...earlier i too was inclined towards 296/298 and even auditioned them to the liking... but put them on back burner for not getting much support for htibs in the forum...big confusion now... htib or avr+fs...htib or avr+fs...htib or avr+fs...

Guys, today I auditioned YHT-296. I didn't really like it. Sound was shrill & quite cranky(does not mean it was cracking) Now after auditioning these entry level HTIB's have I understood that it totally depends upon your taste as to what kind of sound you like. I auditioned all 3s like 3500,1312XP & today 298. Out of these 3, I really liked 1312XP in htib but don't consider other 2s as inferior coz I have already said it depends on individual preference. Now if someone want to go for RX-471, there's a good deal on ebay Yamaha Rx-V471 5.1 Channel Home 3D Receiver Rxv471 ^^^ Great Bargain ^^^ (Rs. 22480) and I think that you get once in a while. Now I am more inclined to purchase Denon 1612/1613 so if you guys come across any good deal anywhere just let me know. Later on either I"m planning to source speakers set-up from abroad (like USA as it's the only country where you get cheap deals on amazon and elsewhere, even amazon.co.uk & amazon.de are expensive.) But rather than going in for FS/BS, I would directly want to jump to a good speaker package like Klipsch, energy take or boston acoustics coz I really do not have patience to first go for FS/BS and then centre, subwoofer etc etc....Now anyone please guide me does 1612 has ARC function as I'm planning to go away with media player, shall directly plug in USB pen drive to my HDTV to play movies and my HDTV supports ARC. Only problem will be playing mkv movies for that I shall use my laptop. Now all you guys help me out one more time.

Why..yamaha only?

The YHT 298 is absolute garbage. A used onkyo hts 3xxx series will crush that yamaha in every single area.

Look for a used or clearance sale onkyo ht s3100 or 3200 or 3300 or 3400 or 3500. Do not go for budget yamaha equipment. They are very very poor value for money. I went to audition them with high hopes and what I heard was not even close to acceptable in any regard.

I picked up an onkyo ht-s3200 once for 14k on clearance. If you search you will find deals around 20k easily for used and s3500 is 25k new. You can opt for this blindly and get the latest features of the onkyo receiver as well as near acceptable sound performance.

Yes, Denon 1612 has ARC. Also there is no 1613. The new models are 1513 and 1713.
