I am in the same boat and hunting for a large screen TV. My budget is 75K but I can stretch it to 1L, if really required.
- Panasonic 50V20D is the king of the best price I have managed so far is Rs. 102K.
- Panasonic 42V20D is the second best and smaller size is a dampner. Best price I got is Rs. 61,000.
- Samsung 51D550 is not available in showrooms and I got a quote of 75K. No discounts. The dealers said that there is a backlog of orders and if I book today, I may get in 10~15 days. Without demo, it is difficult to judge. This is 3D enabled and price is also right (for me) but I reckon that I should be able to get more discount (MRP=78K). And demo is a must.
- LG: I haven't checked the pieces as yet.
Plasma vs. LED: Many articles have been written and I shall not write what everyone has already posted. LED (and LCD) produce very vivid colours which many people like. Plasma colours are more natural which many find dull. So my recommendation is: those who like vivid colours and are mostly going to watch DTH/TV content, LCD/LED will be better. For those who prefer movies, plasma is better.
About 3D: In my opinion, 3D and 2D will coexist. 2D will never die untill 3D is perfected, i.e., you are able to see 3D without the glasses; and that is not likely to happen soon. 3D is definitely painful after an hour or so and especially for people with long distance glasses like me. But it makes sense to have 3D as a feature, if the price is right.
Next the size ... I agree with other members here that to get a good 3D effect you must have large screen ... at least 50" as the lower shelf. I saw the 3D demo at Panasonic Brand shop on a 63". It looked awesome. But when I saw the same demo on 42" it was not that impressive.
Finally, 3D must be watched between 10 perpendicular angle to the TV. I could clearly see the absense of 3D effect when I was just 20 off the perpendicular.
Reflection off the panel: I demo'ed the TV in showroom with bright sunlit street outside (at right angle). I could not see reflections.
I shall try to contribute more of my own impressions later.
