Husband & Wife

OK heliumflight, you said that you wanted to guide true young seekers.
Im a toddler as far as hifi audio goes, honestly speaking.
So will you guide me?
Budget is my first concern.
Current max experience level - Xonar D2X soundcard, Edifier C3 speakers.
I also 'currently' think 2.1 gives a good balance of mid & bass. But I havent really heard good 2.0 bookshelves.
So given a budget of 25k what should I invest in? (Amp and speakers)
I am thinking active 2.1 from some value-for-money brand like Sonodyne.
What do you think?

Thank you for reaching out to me. I'm myself using the Xonar St and find that it is a true hied audio card which equals many Cdp and Dac's. It is versatile and gives the user a lot of control. I'm a 2 channel person and can give you direction only in this regard.

You call the relation "Hasbund and Wife" and in the same statement says 50 changes , also lokking at your changes over years ( on HFV) you are contradicting youurself - don't you think so?

I mean by your example only it appears more like "one night stands " or orgy going on right?

Don't married people, find new mates?

Like your mentality as you made 50 changes so I can assume appx 20 amps , 20 speakers and 10 sources so if you apply simulation ( no of componants at a time ) I am sure it will be around 400 - 500 combinations...

Even in orgy people o not change this fast IMHO...:ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

A person who uses caps and multiple question marks is talking about mentality....

Where I used caps or multiple question marks?

By the way I do not have hypocrisy to say marriage should last forever, but when someone marries some time is expected.

Again in the same line you yourself tell about changes you made.

I just applied statistics and found combinations......

I mean in Texas where you normally get divorce in 24 hours I am sure average marriage span is some months...

When partners change continuously and fast as far as my limited knowledge goes is not marriage ..... or world changed and I became so old?

An interesting discussion of Mars and Venus and the shining stars around them.

Pardon me but this does not sound in the spirit of this thread and forum.

What is so difficult to understand? Electronics don't talk, people do...hence we need to find out which has the best HiFi synergy. Hence the title Husband & Wife.

Helium flight made an intelligent comment which I totally agree with. However, how this thread derailed into something pitiful is beyond me. Anyhow, I see very little activity on this forum by the old timers...looks like everyone moved on or away for the most part.

Great helium flight........as our expectation goes higher n higher ....the technology gets updated (vice versa)... it seems u r a great music lover ...n wandering for some great music expectations..

Yes I understand that you are talking mainly 2 channels here.
I am seeking suggestions for 2.1 but its 2 channels with a separated sub out which I think is advantageous in some respects:

1) Better bass output + you have control - bass can be reduced
2) Mid range drivers in satellites give better mid range output than 6.5" drivers in BS (For the same cost).
3) Overall cost saving (5 drivers vs 6 drivers).
4) Integrated amp is pre-matched with speakers. Yes it suffers in quality but I think we are beginning to see emergence of high quality amps inside those subwoofer boxes (e.g. Swan M50) though its definitely a long way from separate amps like Marantz etc.

I think these are the reasons also why computer audio manufacturers have adopted 2.1 as almost a default format of speakers systems unless I am mistaken.

I have just written my understanding here in the spirit of sharing some ideas not justifying 2.1.

I welcome your 2.0 advice as its a new area for me. I might even try it if fairly convinced.

Regards.

Husband and Wife - I was expecting something even more interesting !!

Your points are quite logical however humblebee I have no experience in regards to 2.1

Im asking 2.0 as besides 2.1, I was also thinking of buying a 2.0 with Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 as speakers.
What would be your opinion as to an appropriate wife for this guy? (In the 15-20K range?)
Secondly, I was also thinking of hybrid amps (tube + IC). Whats your take on that for these speakers?

Regards

With whatever reading I've done on the net (since I have not heard MA Bx2), you would be benefited with a 50 watts British amp. My guess is that Arcam, Rega or Cambridge Audio will be the most suitable wife. I have not listened to any hybrid amp, so can't comment.

looking forward to exchange healthy views with everyone here on the ideal "Husband & Wife" combo which you may have heard...

The only purpose of this thread is to give the benefit of my experience to people who are looking for good music at home, but don't have cash to burn in pursuing some road to audio nirvana. I also know that human nature is such that one has to burn one's fingers before any learning happens.

There's a healthy conversion from some of our respected FM.

What would be the factors to do pairing?
source + amp(pre/power) + speakers + cables(inter/power) and room acoustic........
factors are too many and my bank account is almost empty.
It is too difficult to do pairing.
Perfect pairing can be done only by mistake!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for a joke!

Recently, an inter cable brought me new world. The result was much more than changing of speakers or amps. The cable was DIY (hand made silver coated) one which I got it from Chandni Chowk paying Rs. 120 per meter.

I also have a humble setup. My cables are thick copper electrical cables.
Adequate gauge electrical cable is perfectly fine for hifi speaker connections. Interconnects too, as long as it is a shielded cable.
On the matching thing, it isn't as complex as people seem to think - or be led to think. The biggest matching area is that of the speakers with the room acoustics and space to accommodate the needs of a particular speaker. Get that right, and you are 90% done. Amp matching - if you get a modern solid state amp - is just about ensuring that the amp has sufficient power to drive the speakers adequately with some power in reserve. CDP matching to the amp is a non issue and can be ignored. Ditto for cables and interconnects that seek to only provide hifi capability - i.e., passing along electrical signals without adding or taking away anything from them.
Modern Hifi audio systems are really quite simple - to the dislike of some hobbyists who love to make things complex in the pursuit of something more to do than just enjoy the music.

Have you heard about polarity of Power Cable?
It has too sections.
One is perfect earthing and the other is polarity of Power cable.
Power Amp, Pre Amp, Source.........
if earth is open or polarity is wrong, the sound is sharp and unnatural.

Without spending money, Polarity setting brings much different to our system.
